1.Sonographic appearance of corpus luteum in early pregnance in gray-scale,color and pulsed Doppler ultrasonography
Chinese Journal of Ultrasonography 1993;0(03):-
Objective To understand the gray-scale, color and pulsed Doppler sonographic feature of the corpus luteum during the early trimester of pregnancy. Methods The ovaries of 174 patients with intrauterine gestations between 5 to 9 weeks' menstrual age were examined with transvaginal sonography. Size, sonographic appearance, color Doppler feature, resistance index, peak systolic velocity of the corpus letuem were recorded. Results The corpus luteum was identified in 169 of 174 patients(97.1%) . The mean diameter was ( 1.7 ? 0.8 ) cm. The gray-scale appearances were classified into four types:a thin wall cyst(47 patients, 27.8 %), a thick wall simple cyst(45 patients, 26.6 %), a round hypoechoic structure(43 patients, 25.4 %), a thin-walled cyst containing internal debris (34 patients, 20.1 %). Color blood flow was visualized with color Doppler imaging in 92.3 %(156/169). Color Doppler imaging typically revealed a circumferential rim surrounding part or all of the corpus luteum. Low-resistance blood flow was seen with pulsed Doppler, with a mean resistance index of 0.41?0.10 . Conclusions The corpus lutuem in early pregnancy is identified with transvaginal sonography and has different sonographic appearances. It is important to recognize the various appearances of the corpus lutuem to avoidits confusion with true ovarian abnormalities and ectopic pregnancy.

[Objectice] To study the relationship between the livestock trade and schistosomiasis transmission and to provide an evidence for making a strategy of schistosomiasis control in mountainous areas. [Methods] A retrospective survey and analysis was conducted to investigate the prevalence of schistosomiasis in both humans and livestock (cattle, horses, mules, donkeys and pigs), and the number and migration of livestock in Weishan County, Yunnan Province in 1980~ 1991. [Results] A positive correlation was found between the infection rate of residents and the numbers of livestock migration (R=0. 9151, P<0.01). During 1980 to 1991 the infection rate was increased gradually along with the development of livestock husbandry, especially, from the economic reforms since 1984. In 1984 there was positive correlation in the infection rate both human and livestock (R=0. 8458, P<0.05). The results show that the infection rates of livestock on sale including cattle, horses, mules, donkeys and pigs are 9.54%, 29.39%, 16.38%, 14.47%, 25.73% and 11.11%, respectively. [Conclusion] The infection rate of human and livestock arises by parallel. The high frequency of livestock trade resulted in serious spreading of the infection source of schistosomiasis. The migration of the infected livestock might be an important factor in transmitting schistosomiasis.

This article was aimed to study anti-inflammatory effects of petroleum ether extract from Citrullus lanatus vine (PEECLV) and explore the mechanism. The methods of ear swelling with xylene, increasing of peritoneal capil-lary permeability, and paw edema with egg albumin were used in the establishment of mice models, respectively. Granuloma with cotton pellet, and paw edema with carrageenan were used in the establishment of rat models, re-spectively. Observation was made on anti-inflammatory effects of PEECLV. The content of nitrous oxide (NO) and nitric oxide synthase (NOS), as well as the level of TNF-α and IL-1β in blood serum were measured among granu-loma with cotton pellet rat models. Contents of malondialdehyde (MDA), prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), 5-HT, histamine (His), and protein in inflammatory exudates from the paw edema with carrageenan rat model, as well as contents of NO and NOS in blood serum, and activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) were measured in order to study the possi-ble anti-inflammatory effects. The results showed that PEECLV can suppress the ear swelling with xylene, the in-creasing of peritoneal capillary permeability, and the paw edema with egg albumin in mice, as well as granuloma with cotton pellet, paw edema with carrageenan in rats. It had anti-inflammatory effects at different degrees. The content of NO and NOS, as well as the level of TNF-α and IL-1β in blood serum were reduced in granuloma with cotton pellet rat models. The content of MDA, PGE2, 5-HT, His, and protein content were reduced in inflammatory exudates from the paw edema with carrageenan rat model. The increasing of NO and NOS in blood serum was inhib-ited. And the activity of SOD was increased. It was concluded that PEECLV had certain anti-inflammatory effects. Its mechanism may be related to the influence of the production of inflammatory mediators and antioxidant.
