1.Effects of Sangu Decoction on OPG-RANKL-RANK pPathway in rat model of metastatic carcinoma

Objective:To evaluate the anti-metastatic and bone preserving therapeutic effects of herbal medicine extraction on rat model of bone metastatic carcinoma.Methods:A rat model of cancer-induced bone pain using the MRMT-1 cell line injected into the tibia was established to investigate the efficacy of the herbal medicine extraction,on osteoclast activity and bone mineral density.The development of the bone tumor and structural damage to the bone was monitored by radiological analysis.Specimens of the tibial bone were processed for tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase(TRAP)stain to observe the bone pathological changes and count TRAP stained osteoclasts.OPG and RANKL expression was evaluated by immunohistological methord.Results:Histological and radiological examination showed that the herbal medicine extraction significantly inhibited tumor proliferation and preserved the cortical and trabecular bone structure.In addition,a dramatic reduction of tartrate resistant acid phosphatase-positive polykaryocytes(osteoclasts)and increase of OPG expression were observed.Conclusions:The herbal medicine extraction was an anti-metastatic and bone preserving therapeutic effects in a rat model of metastatic cancer pain.
2.Evaluation of the effect of music given to pregnant rats on the development of brain functions in offspring rats

Objectives To systematically evaluate the effect of music given to pregnant rats on the development of brain functions in the offspring rats and to provide scientific evidence for the application of antenatal musical training and the promotion of welfare for laboratory animals.Methods We comprehensively retrieved and collected the research literatures related to the effect of music on brain function development in offsprings of the pregnant rats from Pubmed,Web of Science,Cochrane Library,Wanfang,Weipu,CNKI and CBMdisc.The retrieval time was set from the foundation date of databases to 2 April,2016.We selected literatures according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria,evaluated their utilities,then extracted and qualitatively described the data.Results Seven experimental studies were selected in this study including 4 published in Chinese and 3 in English.The object laboratory animals of those studies were Wistar or SD rats.Music materials involved comfort music,classic music,violin concerto(Liangzhu/The butterfly lovers).Intervention were given to the pregnant rats roundly from the gestation until parturition.These results showed that,to some extent,music stimulations during gestation may promote the development of brain function and improve spatial memory of the offspring rats.However,expressions of some functional receptors were not significantly altered.Conclusions Appropriate music provided to the pregnant rats promote the development of brain functions in their offspring.
3.Study on function and mechanism of analgesic effects of herbal medicine extraction on bone cancer pain

Objective To evaluate the analgesic effects of herbal medicine extraction on bone cancer pain of rat models. Methods Rat models of cancer-induced bone pain was established by using the MRMT-1 cell line injected into the tibia. Changes of behavioral signs indicative of pain including 50% paw withdrawal threshold (von Frey tactile sensitivity test)and thermal withdrawal latency were observed. The cellular reorganization of dorsal root ganglion (DRG) was measured by histological analysis. Results In the behavioural tests, herbal medicine treatment attenuated mechanical allodynia and thermal hyperalgesia. Histological examination showed that herbal medicine inhibited DRG neuronal nuclear and somatic size reduction with nucleolar segregation. Conclusion The herbal medicine extraction was an anti-nociceptive agent in rat models of bone cancer pain.

5.Expression of HER-2 and TOPO- Ⅱα in ovarian epithelial cancer and its clinical significance

Objective To observe the expression of HER-2 and TOPO-Ⅱα in ovarian epithelial cancer,analyze the correlation between their expression and provide theoretical basis for clinical diagnosis,prognosis and treatment. Methods Expression levels of HER-2 and TOPO- Ⅱα in 10 normal ovarian tissues,20 benign tumors and 58 cases of ovarian epithelial cancers were detected by immunohistochemical method, and their correlations with pathological features were analyzed. Results The positive expression rate of HER-2 in normal ovarian and benign tumor tissues were significantly lower than ovarian epithelial cancers respectively ( 10. 0% , 15.0% VS 46. 6% ;P < 0. 05 ). The positive expression rate of TOPO- Ⅱα in ovarian epithelial cancers was significantly higher than normal and benign epithelial ovarian tumor tissue (53.4% vs 10. 0%, and 15.0%,Ps < 0. 05 ), but we did not find significant difference in the comparison between normal and benign epithelial ovarian tumor tissue ( Ps > 0. 05 ). The expression of HER-2 and TOPO- Ⅱα were significantly correlated with clinical stages, histological differentiation of tumor cells (Ps < 0. 05 ) ,but there were no correlations between the age or histological type. In ovarian cancer tissues, a positive correlation between the expression of HER-2 and TOPO- Ⅱα was observed ( r = 0. 324, P < 0. 05 ) . Conclusion The overexpression of HER-2 and TOPO- Ⅱαplay an important role in ovarian carcinogenesis and development. The expression of HER-2 is positively correlated with TOPO- Ⅱα in ovarian epithelial cancers. Coexpression of the two moleculars may be involved in the development and progression of ovarian epithelial cancer, which should be further studied.
6.Relationship between female ages and the theory of five tones correlated with five zang viscera in Huangdi Neijing

OBJECTIVE: To find out some evidence that may indicate the theory of voice pitch of the five tones being correlated with the five zang viscera in Huangdi Neijing, which was lost 2 000 years. METHODS: Eight-four healthy females were divided into younger group (<34 years old) and older group (> or =34 years old) according to their ages. The pronunciations of these females were examined by sono-frequency analysis facility. RESULTS: The frequency of Jiao tone was much higher than those of the other tones in both groups (P<0.01) and the frequency of Jiao tone increased as aging. The frequency of Zhi tone in the younger group was higher than that in the older group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The results of higher frequency of Jiao tone in females is in accordance with the theory put forward by Ye Gui (a famous doctor in Qing Dynasty of China) that the liver is the congenital base of female life. In traditional Chinese medicine, Jiao tone is correlated with the liver, and Zhi tone is correlated with the heart. The high frequency of Zhi tone in younger females implies that regulating the Small Intestine Meridian of Hand-Taiyang and Heart Meridian of Hand-Shaoyin may be beneficial to the health maintenance of younger female.
7.Single-port transumbilical laparoscopic cholecystectomy in an adult patient with congenital pulmonary hypoplasia: a case report.

Congenital pulmonary hypoplasia is a rare developmental abnormality of the lung with an incidence rate of around 1/5000 000. As a fatal condition associated with respiratory insufficiency after birth, this disease is rare in adults. We treated a 29-year-old female patient with congenital pulmonary hypoplasia and concurrent of cystic duct calculus in May, 2011 using single-port transumbilical laparoscopic cholecystectomy, which resulted in a good therapeutic effect comparable to that by routine laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

8.Automatic separation system for marine meiobenthos based on laser-induced fluorescence technology.

An automatic system for marine meiobenthos separation was developed by using laser-induced fluorescence technology. Rose Bengal was used as organism dye and the spectrums of Rose Bengal were measured. Laser-induced fluorescence system was established to detect marine meiobenthos in sediments. Data obtained from experiments were analyzed by using a mathematical model. The results showed that laser-induced fluorescence technology worked well in the system. The system could select the meiobenthos efficiently and precisely.

9.Therapeutic effects of potassium sodium hydrogen citrate on melamine-induced urinary calculi in China.

BACKGROUNDIn 2008, a sharp increase of the number of children diagnosed with urinary calculi was observed in China, 9433 children were diagnosed as having melamine-induced urinary calculi at outpatient clinic in Beijing Children's Hospital. This study examined the therapeutic efficacy of potassium sodium hydrogen citrate (PSHC) used to treat melamine-induced urinary stones in Chinese children who consumed melamine-containing infant formula.
METHODSSeventy-two infants and children (average age (18.2 +/- 7.7) months) who were diagnosed with urinary calculi were randomly divided into three treatment groups using the SAS Plan program. Group 1 was given a low dose (1 g/d) of PSHC, group 2 was given high dose of PSHC (2 g/d) and group 3 was given no PSHC (control group). The dose of drug was adjusted according to the baseline urinary pH. This study analyzed the influence of the dose of PSHC, the age of patients, stone size and position, and urinary pH on the level of efficacy of PSHC (cured, effectively treated or not cured).
RESULTSAfter 1 - 6 months of therapy, 19 patients from group 1, five patients from group 2 and six patients from group 3 were cured. Five patients from group 1, five patients from group 2 and four patients from group 3 were effectively treated. There were significant differences in therapeutic efficacy between the two treatment doses after 3 and 6 months as measured by the increase in the successful expulsion rate and time of melamine-induced urinary calculi. After 6 months the mean time of expulsion of urinary calculi in groups 1 and 2 was significantly shorter than in the control group.
CONCLUSIONSPSHC can significantly increase the successful expulsion rate and time of melamine-induced urinary calculi. The therapeutic efficacy is affected by PSHC dose, treatment duration, calculi position, and urinary pH. There is no relationship between the therapeutic efficacy and the stone size or patient age.

10.Survey clinical evidence of acupuncture therapy for depressive neurosis.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the clinical studies of acupuncture for treatment of depressive neurosis, collect the high quality evidence relative to clinical acupuncture practice for clinical decision-making reference.
METHODSAround crucial common questions of acupuncture clinical practice, the documents of clinical study were comprehensively retrieved. According to 5-grade criterion of evidence-based medicine, the evidence from high to low level were selected to answer corresponding clincal questions and RevMan 5.0.20 was used to analyze the final indicator.
RESULTSNineteen documents of clinical study accord with the inclusive criterion were retrieved. Level-A evidence showed effectiveness of acupuncture. Acupuncture might be superior or equal to fluoxetine, with little adverse effect and high safety. Level-C evidence showed acupuncture might be superior or equal to Amitriptyline, with little adverse effect and high safety. And no relative clinicial evidence compared effect of acupuncture with that of psychotherapy or behavior therapy. Only one level-C evidence showed there was no effect difference between acupuncture combined with bloodletting therapy and bloodletting alone. Two level-C evidence showed the effect of acupuncture combined with western medicine was superior to that of medicine alone, eg. catgut embedding therapy combined with Fluoxetine, electroacupuncture combined with Seroxat.
CONCLUSIONAcupuncture for depressive nerosis has a positive effect. Acupuncture has an equal effect compared with western medicine, while strictly designed equivalent and non-inferior studies are demanded. The effect of acupuncture combined with medicine has some advantage, but need high quality studies to verify.
