OBJECTIVETo comparatively study the curative effects of combined massage-smouldering-washing therapy (MSW) and mini-invasive surgery in treating knee osteoarthritis (KOA) of mild-moderate degree so as to provide a suitable therapeutic protocol.

METHODSSixty patients with KOA were assigned to two groups. The treatment group was treated with MSW once a day for 10 days as one course, and 4 courses were applied totally with an interval of 3 days between courses. The control group was treated with mini-invasive surgery by arthroscopic mopping, followed with post-operational intra-articular cavity injection with sodium hyaluronate injection, 20 mg every week for 5 times continuously. The therapeutic effect and the changes in scores of clinical symptoms and signs before and after treatment in the two groups were observed and compared.

RESULTSOutcome of 3-month follow-up showed the effective rate was 90% in the treatment group and 93.33% in the control group; scores of clinical symptoms and signs effectively improved in both groups, but the improvement on the 4 items (joint pain, swelling, soreness of loin and knee, and cold aversion of knee) was superior in the treatment group, while that on the other 4 items (pain during squatting or half-squatting, up stairs or down stairs, joint stiffiness and joint kinetic capacity) was superior in the control group (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONBoth MSW and mini-invasive surgery have definite curative effect on KOA but with different particularities.

Objective To study the effect of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy on perihematomal edema in acute spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage. Methods Sixty-three consecutive hospitalized patients with supraten-torial intracerebral hemorrhage were allocated to an HBO group (n = 30) or a control group (n = 33) at random. Routine therapies were used with both groups. The treatment group received in addition twenty consecutive daily ses-sions of HBO therapy beginning 3～5 d after onset. MRI brain scans were performed on the 5～7th and 25th day. Absolute edema volumes and relative edema volumes were measured from T2-weighted images. Apparent diffusion co-efficients (ADCs) of the edematous regions were calculated on diffusion-weighted images (DWI). Results There were no statistical differences between the two groups in terms of age, sex, blood pressure, NIHSS, hematoma posi-tion or volume. At the 5th～7th d, both absolute and relative edema volumes in the HBO group were smaller than in the controls (P≤0.05). Brain edema was still prominent at the 25th d. Absolute edema volumes, relative edema volumes and ADC values were all smaller in the HBO group at the 25th day compared with the controls (P≤0.05). Conclusion HBO therapy soon after intracerebral hemorrhage can lessen the severity and range of brain edema. E-dema persists after the onset of the disease, and HBO can reduce such delayed brain edema. HBO may benefit func-tional recovery from intracerebral hemorrhage by reducing perihematomal edema.

Based on the transcriptome data, we cloned the open reading frame of IiHCT gene from Isatis indigotica, and then performed bioinformatic analysis of the sequence. Further, we detected expression pattern in specific organs and hairy roots treated methyl jasmonate( MeJA) by RT-PCR. The IiHCT gene contains a 1 290 bp open reading frame( ORF) encoding a polypeptide of 430 amino acids. The predicted isoelectric point( pI) was 5.7, a calculated molecular weight was about 47.68 kDa. IiHCT was mainly expressed in stem and undetectable in young root, leaf and flower bud. After the treatment of MeJA, the relative expression level of IiHCT increased rapidly. The expression level of IiHCT was the highest at 4 h and maintained two fold to control during 24 h. In this study, cloning of IiHCT laid the foundation for illustrating the biosynthesis mechanism of phenylpropanoids in I. indigotica.

Objective To explore the differences and similarities of clinical characteristics,pathological features, treatment and prognosis between primary gastric lymphoma(PGL)and primary intestinal lymphoma (PIL). Methods The clinical characteristics, pathological features, therapeutic results, the detection of Helicobacter pylori (Hp) and prognosis of 48 PGL cases and 15 PIL cases were retrospectively analyzed. Results There was no statistical significance in age, gender, abdominal pain, gastrointestinal bleeding, B symptoms, clinical stage, mortality between PGL and PIL groups (P>0. 05). However, there were significant differences in the pathological type, acute abdomen emergency surgery between these two groups (P<0. 05). There was 12 Hp positive cases in mucosalassociated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma of PGL group (12/19), and 5 Hp positive cases in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) (5/20). There was significant difference in Hp detection rate of these two pathological types. Hp was not found in PIL group. The Cox multivariate analysis indicated that stage Ⅲ-Ⅳ was the independent adverse factors affecting PGL prognosis (P<0. 05).Conclusions Mainly histological types are DLBCL and MALT lymphoma in PGL, and DLBCL in PIL.PIL predispose to T-cell lymphoma compared with PGL. MALT lymphoma is rare in PIL group. The mainly clinical stage is Ⅲ-Ⅳ both in PGL group and PIL group. Emergency surgery is often needed in PIL because of intussusception or perforation. The prognosis of PGL is correlated with the stage and the prognosis of PIL are correlated with the stage, B symptoms and T cell phenotype.

Objective To evaluate the value of serum uric acid(UA)levels with reference to the age,waist circumference,and body mass index(BMI)in predicting the metabolic syndrome(MS)in obese children.Methods A total of 300 obese children,including 180 boys and 120 girls,were enrolled in this study.The height,BMI,waist and hip circumference,blood pressure,serum glucose,insulin and lipid profile in all participants were measured.Oral glucose tolerance test and insulin releasing test were performed.The boys or girls were divided into 4 groups according to the 4 quantile of UA level,respectively.The clinical characteristics and correlation of UA with the clinical indexes and MS components were compared.The binary Logistic regression analysis was applied in the risk of MS and its components for the 4 groups of obese children.The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(ROC curve)of UA level,age,waist circumference and BMI were used to predict the MS.Results UA level was increased with the increase of age,waist circumference and BMI,and the UA level was significantly correlated with triacylglycerol,postprandial 2 h glucose(2 h PG)(r=0.196,0.174 in boys;r=0.291,0.179 in girls).In boys,the adjusted odds ratio and 95％CI of the highest quartile of UA for triglyceridemia was 2.71(95％CI:0.77-9.58);which in girls,the adjusted odds ratio and 95％CI of the highest quartile of UA for hyperglycemia,hypertension were 8.45(95％CI:1.76-40.52)and 3.93(95％CI:0.66-23.33),respectively,with significant differences.In boys,the area under the ROC curve of UA level,age,waist circumference and BMI which predict the MS were 0.652 0.626,0.621,0.62,respectively,and the differences were significant(all P<0.05).Conclusions The UA level is significantly correlated with the composition of MS,UA detection combining with reference to the age,waist circumference,and BMI is helpful for the identification of high risk groups of metabolic syndrome.
