Objective To study the effect of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy on perihematomal edema in acute spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage. Methods Sixty-three consecutive hospitalized patients with supraten-torial intracerebral hemorrhage were allocated to an HBO group (n = 30) or a control group (n = 33) at random. Routine therapies were used with both groups. The treatment group received in addition twenty consecutive daily ses-sions of HBO therapy beginning 3～5 d after onset. MRI brain scans were performed on the 5～7th and 25th day. Absolute edema volumes and relative edema volumes were measured from T2-weighted images. Apparent diffusion co-efficients (ADCs) of the edematous regions were calculated on diffusion-weighted images (DWI). Results There were no statistical differences between the two groups in terms of age, sex, blood pressure, NIHSS, hematoma posi-tion or volume. At the 5th～7th d, both absolute and relative edema volumes in the HBO group were smaller than in the controls (P≤0.05). Brain edema was still prominent at the 25th d. Absolute edema volumes, relative edema volumes and ADC values were all smaller in the HBO group at the 25th day compared with the controls (P≤0.05). Conclusion HBO therapy soon after intracerebral hemorrhage can lessen the severity and range of brain edema. E-dema persists after the onset of the disease, and HBO can reduce such delayed brain edema. HBO may benefit func-tional recovery from intracerebral hemorrhage by reducing perihematomal edema.

Purpose To explore the correlation between normal pancreas and abdominal aorta in the peak enhancement (PE) and the shift time at the peak by applying the multislices spiral CT perfusion imaging.Materials and Methods Prospectively analyzed 62 patients who received enhancement CT examination for the superior or the middle abdomen,underwent optimum level CT perfusion imaging after plain scanning.These data were processed on a Vitreal 2.0 worker-station by using Toshiba body software package.The time-density curves (TDC) of the normal pancreas and the abdominal aorta were drawn,the PE and the shift time of PE were recorded and their correlation was analyzed.Results Compared with abdominal aorta,the mean value of PE of the normal pancreas was lower,and the difference was statistically significant [(111.94± 14.42)HU vs (351.83 ± 74.93)HU,P＜0.05],the mean difference was (246.10± 65.86)HU.Compared with abdominal aorta,the mean shift times of PE of the normal pancreas was latter,and the difference was statistically significant [(37.56±6.90) s vs (30.82±6.73) s,P＜0.05],the mean difference was (6.54±2.97)s.The PE and shift time of PE of the normal pancreas were positively and linearly correlated with that of abdominal aorta (r=0.438,r=0.379).Conclusion The PE of the normal pancreas is not synchronous with that of the abdominal aorta.The shift time of the former is usually 6～8 seconds slower than that of the latter.This provides a basis to find the PE of the normal pancreas in enhanced scan.

Objective To explore the differences and similarities of clinical characteristics,pathological features, treatment and prognosis between primary gastric lymphoma(PGL)and primary intestinal lymphoma (PIL). Methods The clinical characteristics, pathological features, therapeutic results, the detection of Helicobacter pylori (Hp) and prognosis of 48 PGL cases and 15 PIL cases were retrospectively analyzed. Results There was no statistical significance in age, gender, abdominal pain, gastrointestinal bleeding, B symptoms, clinical stage, mortality between PGL and PIL groups (P>0. 05). However, there were significant differences in the pathological type, acute abdomen emergency surgery between these two groups (P<0. 05). There was 12 Hp positive cases in mucosalassociated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma of PGL group (12/19), and 5 Hp positive cases in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) (5/20). There was significant difference in Hp detection rate of these two pathological types. Hp was not found in PIL group. The Cox multivariate analysis indicated that stage Ⅲ-Ⅳ was the independent adverse factors affecting PGL prognosis (P<0. 05).Conclusions Mainly histological types are DLBCL and MALT lymphoma in PGL, and DLBCL in PIL.PIL predispose to T-cell lymphoma compared with PGL. MALT lymphoma is rare in PIL group. The mainly clinical stage is Ⅲ-Ⅳ both in PGL group and PIL group. Emergency surgery is often needed in PIL because of intussusception or perforation. The prognosis of PGL is correlated with the stage and the prognosis of PIL are correlated with the stage, B symptoms and T cell phenotype.

AIM: To investigate the effect of advanced glycosylation end products on the expression of receptor for advanced glycosylation end products in human monocyte-derived dendritic cells. METHODS: Monocytes were purified (over 98%) using anti-CD14+ microbeads. After 8 d culture in RPMI-1640 medium containing rhGM-CSF (100 ?g/L) and rhIL-4 (50 ?g/L), immature MDCs were derived, then exposed to AGE-BSA (0 or 200 mg/L) for 24 h. Expression of RAGE was semi-quantified by RT-PCR and Western blotting. At the same time, supernatants were collected. IFN-? and IL-12 were analyzed by ELISA.
