Ginseng and its effective components are famous for their influence to enhance human immunity, regulate endocrine and antioxidant action. However, the different effects of different components are not clear. In this study, Wistar rats were used to study the effects of main components of ginseng, including total ginsenoside, panaxadiol saponins, panaxtrol saponin and ginseng polysaccharide. The results showed that the effects of panaxadiol saponins and ginseng polysaccharide on improving animal immune organ weight, plasma interleukin 2 (IL-2), interleukin 6 (IL-6), plasma gamma-interferon (IFN-γ), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) were better than that of the other groups. Total ginsenoside and panaxtrol saponin can effectively increase the concentration of spleen NK cells (NKC) while panaxadiol saponins and ginseng polysaccharide can significantly increase the concentrations of rat plasma adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH), corticosterone (CORT) and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). As for the effect of increasing organization nitric oxide (NO) and superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH) and malondialdehyde (MDA), total ginsenoside is better than that of other groups. In brief, different components in ginseng possess different effects on enhancing immunity, regulating endocrine and resisting oxidation. Panaxadiol saponins and ginseng polysaccharide are better in enhancing immune, and total ginsenoside shows advantages in resisting oxidation and stress.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2014;31(1):152-156
The present study was aimed to explore the relationship of transforming growth factor (TGF) beta3 gene SfaNI polymorphism (rs3917201 locus) and non-syndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate (NSCL/P) in people of the Uygur's Nationality and Han's in Xinjiang, China. TGFbeta3 gene fragment including SfaNI was amplified and purified as the template of the primer extension reaction thenafter. The single base extension reaction was carried out u sing SNP specific extension primer. The products were purified and analyzed by MALDI-TOF. The test showed that there were not significantly different frequencies of AA, AG, GG genotypes and alleles between the whole NSCL/P group and the whole control group (P > 0.05). Within the Uygurs or Hans, the frequencies of genotypes between the whole NSCL/P group and the whole control group were not significantly different (P > 0.05). The distributions of the A, G alleles between the NSCL/P group and the control group were not significantly different within the Uygurs (P > 0.05), but significant different within the Hans (P < 0.05). In all the NSCL/P patients, frequencies of genotypes and alleles were not significantly different between Uygurs and Hans (P > 0.05), and not significantly different (P > 0.05) either between Uygurs and Hans in all the healthy persons. The results proved that TGFbeta3 gene SfaNI polymorphism may not be related to NSCL/P in Xinjiang Uygur people, while the occurrence of NSCL/P in Han population may be related to frequency of the A and G allele of SfaNI polymorphism.

The paper is to systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of Deng Zhan Xi Xin injection ( DZXXI) as an adjuvant treatment for patients with angina pectoris. The Cochrane Library, Medline, EMbase, CBM, CNKI, VIP, and Wan fang Data base were searched. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of DZXXI combined with western medicine routine treatment versus western medicine routine treatment alone for angina pectoris patients were all included. All trials were assessed according to the Cochrane Reviewer' s Handbook 5.1 for Systematic Reviews of Intervention and Meta analyses were performed by RevMan 5. 2 Software. A total of 30RCTs (3 086 patients including 1 572 patients of treatment group and 1 514 patients of control group) were included. Meta-analysis of treatment group compared with control group showed superior effect over reducing cardiovascular events ( OR = 0.33; 95% CI: [0.16, 0.67], P = 0.002, improving effective rate of DZXXI as adjuvant treatment for angina pectoris patients (OR = 3.97; 95% CI: [3.15, 5.02]; P < 0.000 010 and electrocardiogram curative effect (OR = 2.21; 95% CI; [1.83, 2.68]; P < 0.000 010. Funnel figure seemed that there was publication bias. The current limited evidence showed that when compared with the control group, treatment group was superior in improving patients with angina pectoris. But based on the limitations of the study, rigorous design with long follow up clinical trials are necessary for further evidence.

Due to its effect of systems regulation and promotion on body, Ginseng is always referred to be long-term used as a dietary supplement. But it was still unclear about its target of the tonic effects and also the side-effects long-term use may bring. Urine metabolomic method is suitable for long-term studies of pharmaco-dynamics, pharmacology and toxicology of traditional Chinese medicine because of its characteristics of non-invasive and monitoring the whole-body metabolism. This study was designed to detect the dynamic variation of rat urine metabolome along with a long-term administration of total ginsenosides using GC-TOF based metabolomic technology. Our result showed that either short-term or chronic administration of ginsenosides did not impact the rat urine metabolome significantly (as the PCA subgroup was not successful). By comparison, the short-term (1-3 w) dose of ginsenosides had the biggest metabolic influence including TCA cycle, catecholamines and neurotransmitter amino acids. Medium-term (6-10 w) dose had a gradually lower effect and long-term (27 w) dose almost had no effect. Our study indicates that both short and long-term administration of ginsenosides showed almost no obvious side-effect on the experimental animals.

Objective To study serum levels of soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1) and its correlation with accumulation degree of 99Tcm-MDP on bone and arthritis and to study the role of sICAM-1 in the diagnosis of patients with early RA. Methods Serum levels of sICAM-1 were measured by immunoenzymetic assay (ELISA). 99mTc-MDP scintigraphy was carried out for the same patients. The significant test between serum levels of sICAM-1 of three groups was performed with analysis of variance; Correlations between serum levels of sICAM-1 and index of semiquatitive 99Tcm-MDP were obtained using sperman's ranks correlation method. Results Compared with control group, serum levels of sICAM-1 were significantly higher in standard group (group A) (P<0.01) and non-standard group (group B) (P<0.05). No significant difference was found between group A and B(P>0.05). Serum levels of sICAM-1 were positively correlated with 99Tcm-MDP scintigraphy. Most patients of non-standard group and standard group showed visible medium-high uptake of 99Tcm-MDP. While control group had not obviously uptake of 99Tcm-MDP. Conclusion Serum levels of sICAM-1, semiquatitive 99Tcm-MDP scintigraphy, accumulation degree of radiopharmuceuutial on bone and arthritis are helpful for diagnosis of early rheumatoid arthritis and judge-ment of the clinical status and improvement of the prognosis.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the pathogenic and clinical presentation and laboratory tests of bullous rash in hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) in Xi'an from January 2013 to December 2014 by retrospective analysis.
METHODA total of 224 specimens were collected from clinically diagnosed HFMD cases who were characterized by widespread mucocutaneous bullous reactions in Xi'an Children's Hospital from January 2013 to December 2014, the identification and subtyping of the isolates were conducted with real-time fluorescent quantitative RT-PCR. A retrospective analysis was performed to analyze the clinical presentation, laboratory tests and late follow-up problems of the HFMD.
RESULTIn the clinically diagnosed HFMD cases who were characterized by widespread mucocutaneous bullous reactions, 207 were caused by coxsackievirus A6 (CA6), accounting for 92. 4% of all cases with bullous, 4 were caused by enterovirus 71 (EV71), accounting for 1.8%, 10 were caused by coxsackievirus A16 (CA16), accounting for 4. 5%; 4 cases were negative for these viruses. In the cases positive for intestinal virus-nucleic acid, 130 were male, 90 were female; male to female ratio was 1. 44: 1, 203 were <5 years old, accounting for 92. 3%. Leukocytosis was found in 75 cases (34. 1%); high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) increased in 200 cases (90. 9%); elevated myocardial enzyme CK-MB was found in 35 cases (15. 9%), alanine aminotransferase increased in 15 cases (6. 8%); 187 cases had fever (85. 0%). None of the cases had serious complications such as encephalitis or myocarditis. In the course of the critical phase bullous rash or large vesicle-like changes, obvious itching, and facial rash appeared. After the fluid in the bullae was absorbed or the bullae ruptured or became ulcerated, scar formation and large areas of exfoliation occurred, with no effusion on the newly formed epithelium in the base, without significant pigmentation on later follow-up. In the late follow up process, 52 cases in CA6-positive patients (25. 1%) developed onychomadesis within 2-4 weeks after onset, 1 to 8 nails, an average of 4. 3 fell off, new nails grew, the nail bed showed no structural abnormalities and hyperplasia after falling off, the surface was smooth, had no hypertrophy, left no sequelae.
CONCLUSIONThe pathogen in HFMD characterized by widespread bullous reactions was mainly the CA6, this kind of HFMD was mainly mild type, with significant itching, later the bullae may have scar formation and skin exfoliation, in some cases onychomadesis may occur.

Objective To evaluate the efficiency and clinical value of modular flexible ureteroscope combined with Holmium laser lithotripsy for treatment of renal calculi. MethodsA total of 46 patients with renal calculi were treated with modular flexible ureteroscope combined with Ho:YAG lithotripsy in our hospital from December 2009 to May 2011.There were 19 cases in middle and upper calyx,8 cases in lower calyx,15 case in renal pelvic, and 4 cases in multiple calyxes. The calculi diameter ranged from 6mm to 31 mm (average in 15 ± 7.9 mm).Flexible ureteroscope was used to find renal calculus under epidural anesthesia, and Holmium laser lithotripsy was used at a maximum energy of 12 to 20W (0.8 - 1.0 J/15 -20Hz).F5 or F6 double-J tubes and catheters were indwelled routinely postoperatively.-examine with KUB and removethe catheter 2 days after operation.Re-examine with B-ultrasonography or KUB 4 weeks after op-eration to evaluate the stone free rate.Residual stones ≥4 mm were regarded as clinical significance of residual stone fragments. Results 45 operations were successful except one case changed to percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) because of ureteral stricture. The operation time was 45 -150 min (average in 110.4 ±25.3 min). The patients were discharged from hospital in 2 -5 days(average in 3 days) after operation. The stone detection rate was 95.6% (44/46),and the stone free rate was 86.9% (40/46) after one operation. No severe complications such as ureteral perforation or hemorrhea occurred. Conclusions Modular flexible ureteroscope combined with Holmium laser lithotripsy is effective and safe for treatment ofrenal calculi, meanwhile it can decrease the high maintenance costs of integrated flexible ureteroscope.
