Chinese Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation 2010;32(3):205-207
Objective To determine the effects of practicing a simplified 24 movement form of Tai chi on the level of inflammatory cytokines and the quality of life of type 2 diabetes patients. Methods A group of type 2 diabetes patients practiced a simplified 24 movement Tai chi routine 60 min/d, 3 d/week for 6 months. Plasma glu-cose and insulin concentration were monitored. The plasma level of IL-6, IL-18, sCD40L, hsCRP and HBAc1 were measured. Changes in the patients' quality of life were also measured by using the SF-36. Results Serum IL-6,IL-18, hsCRP and sCD40L levels were all significantly lower compared with a control group. Significant quality of life improvements were seen in the Tai chi group compared with the controls. Significant reductions were seen in blood pressure, glycated haemoglobin, glucose, insulin resistance and urinary albumin. Conclusions These results sug-gest that regular Tai chi practice can prevent complications and improve the quality of life of diabetes sufferers through glyeaemic control and down-regulating inflammatory cytokine levels.

OBJECTIVE:To improve the quality standard of Vitamin C yinqiao tablet, and to provide a theoretical basis for im-proving the standards and quality of medicines. METHODS:HPLC in Chinese Pharmacopoeia(2010 edition)was conducted to de-termine the content of chlorogenic acid, arctiin, vitamin C,acetaminophen, chlorphenamine maleate in Vitamin C yinqiao tablet from multiple manufacturers. RESULTS:There were big differences of the 5 components in Vitamin C yinqiao tablet among differ-ent manufacturers. CONCLUSIONS:The content determination method for Vitamin C yinqiao tablet contained in Chinese Pharmaco-poeia remains to be further improved;and the manufacturers should pay attention to the process of production and quality of tradi-tional Chinese medicinal materials of the preparation.

Objective To assess the diagnostic value of magnetic source imaging(MSI) in the preoperative localization of focal cortical dysplasia(FCD). Methods Eighty-two patients with intractable epilepsy resulting from FCD undergone preoperative assessment including MSI, video electroencephalography(VEEG) and electrocorticography(ECoG)from February 2006 to June 2012.The consistency between pre- and intra-surgical assessment was evaluated. For patients who had consistent results, postoperative curative effect was also recorded. The accuracy and predictive values of noninvasive preoperative tests were compared by χ2 test. Results For MSI and ECoG, their results were consistent in 57 cases, partially consistent in 14 cases, and inconsistent in 11 cases. In the postoperative follow-up of 57 patients with consistent results, there were 46 cases with Engel class Ⅰ, 3 cases with Engel class Ⅱ, 4 cases with Engel class Ⅲ, and 4 cases with Engel class IV. For VEEG and ECoG, the results were consistent in 43 cases, partially consistent in 33 cases, inconsistent in 6 cases. The postoperative follow-up showed that 27 cases were graded as Engel classⅠ, 5 cases as Engel classⅡ,7 cases as Engel classⅢ, and 4 cases as Engel class IV. There were statistically significant differences(χ2=5.023,P=0.025)of the concordance rate with ECoG between MSI(69.51%,57/82)and VEEG(52.44%,43/82). In the postoperative follow-up of patients with consistent results, the curative effect was better in group MSI than in group VEEG (χ2=3.989,P=0.046). Conclusions Preoperativelocalization by MSI shows advantage over VEEG, which meanswhen it achieves an agreement with ECoG, patients with FCD may get better prognosis from the surgical process.

Clinical characteristics were analyzed retrospectively in a patient with empty sella and adrenal adenoma with regard to the elaborated diagnosis and treatment.Although empty sella syndrome alone was common, clinical combination with adrenal adenoma was rarely reported. It was difficult to diagnose due to complex symptoms and hormone levels. This case could help increase awareness of the disease and accumulate the experience in diagnosis and treatment.

BACKGROUND: There is no effective method to identify liver cancer stem cells until now, which has become one of the major challenges in this field. OBJECTIVE: To explore a more effective and suitable way for the identification of liver cancer stem cells in hepatocellular carcinoma cell lines. METHODS: Firstly, the single cell separation technique was used to obtain single cells, which were seeded into 96-wel plates one by one. Secondly, cell sublines derived from single cell colonies (tumorigenic colonies) were selected and obtained. At last, the cells from these clones were transplanted into the forelimb armpits of nude mice to observe the tumorigenic ability. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The number of holes of single cells obtained was 371 by the single cell separation technique, and the success rate was 96.4%. According to the growth of cell clone, tumorigenic colonies were selected to be transplanted to the forelimb armpits of nude mice, and the tumor formation rate of the colonies was 100%. The identification model of single-cell-transplant-tumorigenic-test for liver cancer stem cells is confirmed to be preliminarily established, which lays the technology and methodological basis for the follow-up research.

ObjeclJve To definine the corresponding value to glycated albumin(GA)for a specific target of HbAlc,and to elvaluate the relationship between GA and HbA1c.Methods From Oct.2006 TO Apr.2009, 2 532 subjects were enrolled who accepted oral glucose tolerance test(OGtt)in out-patient department, including 898 with normal glucose regulation,695 with impaired glucose regulation, and 939 with newly-diagnosed diabetes.GA was measured with liquid enzymatic method.HbA1c was measured with high performance liquid chromatography method. The plasma glucose was measured at fasting,0.5 h,1 h,2 h,and 3h after glucose load. The correlation among GA,HbA1c and the other parameters monitored was analyzed. Results (1)The levels of HbA1c and GA in 2 532 subjects were(6.3±1.1)% and(17.9±4.5)%.The ratio of GA/HbA1c was 2.85±0.51.(2)HbAlc and GA were positively correlated with fasting,0.5 h,1 h,2 h and 3 h plasma glucose(r was in 0.567-0.776,atl P<0.01).(3)GA was significantly correlated with HbA1c(r=0.701,P<0.01).Linear regression analysis, using GA and HbA1c summarized by patient(n=2 532),produced a relationship of GA=2.871×HbA1c-0.112.The change in GA per increase of 1% HbA1c was 2.87%.When HbA1c level was 6.5%,the expected value of GA was 18.5%.The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy with GA≤18.5% to predict HbA1c≤6.5% were 82.32%,72.49%,86.48%.65.73%,and 79.19%,respectively.When HbA1c level was 7.0%,the expected value of GA was 20.O%.When HbA1c level was 7.5%.the expected value of GA was 21.4%.Conclusions We initially establish the corresponding value to GA for a specific target of HbA1c and provide the basis for clinical application.
