The core problem of the brain-computer interface (BCI) based on neural signal is estimating neural firing rate from a spike train and then using neural population decoding algorithm to decode movement trajectory. In this artical, we review the theoretical basis of both classic and current firing rate estimations and compare the advantages and drawbacks of these methods. At the same time we also review the decoding algorithm which using neural firing rate to decode movement trajectory in brain- computer interface: population vector algorithm, linear filter and kalman filter. At last, some results applying these estimators of firing rate to decode arm movement in BCI are introduced. The results show apparently different performance of the different firing rate estimators, while minimal differences are observed in the actual application of BCI.

Objective To study the expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), interleukin-1? (IL-1?) and ultrastructure changes in capillaries and to explore whether capillaries may play a role in the pathogenesis of polymyositis (PM). Methods Ten cases of patients with PM were collected. Control group 1 consists of 6 patients with other myopathies,Control group 2 consists of 2 muscle specimens without clinical and histological evidence of a neuromuscular disorder. An immunohistochemical technique was applied to indentify the expression of ICAM-1 and IL-1? in capillaries in the PM group, Control group 1 and Control group 2. The first analysis was a qualitative assessment. For the second analysis, the number of positive mononuclear cells and capillaries of the whole tissue section from each patient and control was estimated for all the immunologic markers investigated. 10 PM patients were also examined by electron microscopy in order to observe capillary changes in muscles. Results We found that the capillaries in tissues from PM (median (64?20)/mm~2 of tissue, ranging 44—106/mm~2) were significantly less than those from controls (median (157?46)/mm~2 of tissue, ranging 93—213/mm~2) (t=-4.523, P=0.003). A significantly higher number of capillaries expressed IL-1? in the PM group than in the Control group 1(median 15/mm~2 of tissue (ranging 6—46/mm~2) vs 3/mm~2 of tissue (ranging 0—16/mm~2)) (t=3.721, P=0.003). There was no significant difference between PM group and Control group 1 in the number of capillaries expressing ICAM-1 (t=0.529,P=0.617). However, ICAM-1 expressions in endothelial cells of capillaries were stronger in PM patients as IL-1?. Electronic microscopy found capillary changes in 6 PM patients, showing as thickening and duplication of basement membrane, swelling of endothelial cells, stenosis or occlusion of vessels. Conclusion Our findings indicate that capillary changes might take a role in the pathogenesis of PM.

The problem that the medical information work is specific expression of hospital comprehensive efficiency is pointed out. By giving medical information personnel is the key of the information construction, the emphasizing important effect of it and aiming directly at "patient-centered" to produce the construction level on the function of information center and medical information personnel. The hospital development combines with reality of medical information to prefer culti- vation suggestion of the medical information personnel.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of Yijing Recipe (YR) on the apoptosis of testis spermatogenic cells and the protein expression of Bcl-2/Bax in rats with adenine induced infertility.
METHODSTotally 75 Wistar rats were randomly divided into 5 groups, i.e., the blank control group, the model group, the high dose YR group, the middle dose YR group, and the low dose YR group, 15 in each group. Except those in the blank control group, rats in the rest groups were intragastrically administered with adenine for 10 successive days. From the 11th day, rats in the blank control group and the model group were fed with equal volume of normal saline. Rats in the YR groups were intragastrically administered with YR at different doses (3.38 g/100 g; 1.69 g/100 g; 0.85 g/100 g), once daily for 20 consecutive days. All rats were killed by the end of the experiment and their testes extracted. The apoptosis of spermatogenic cells and the expression of Bcl-2/Bax proteins were detected by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated biotinylated UTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) and SABC method.
RESULTSCompared with the blank control group, the Bcl-2 protein expression decreased, the Bax protein expression increased, and the apoptosis index increased in the model group, showing statistical difference (P <0.01). Compared with the model group, the Bcl-2 protein expression increased in the three YR treated groups (P <0.01, P <0.05). The Bax protein expression level decreased in the high and middle dose YR groups (P <0. 01, P <0. 05). The apoptosis index decreased in the middle dose YR group (P <0.01).
CONCLUSIONYR could inhibit the apoptosis of spermatogenic cells through regulating the expression of Bcl-2 and Bax protein in the testis.

Objective: To investigate the antimotion sickness effects of ginsenosides combined with dexamethasone in rats. Methods: Fifty SD rats were randomly divided into 5 groups: normal saline, scopolamine-treated, ginsenosides-treated, dexamethasone-treated and ginsenosides plus dexamethasone-treated groups. There were 10 rats in each group. The rats in each group were fed with corresponding ingredients respectively, and then the rats were exposed to abnormal acceleration for one hour. The motion sickness index, the level of kaolin consumption and the course and time of spontaneous activity were observed. Results: The motion sickness index and the level of kaolin consumption of acceleration-exposed rats in ginsenosides plus dexamethasone-treated group were significantly lower than those in normal saline group. And the course and time of spontaneous activity of acceleration-exposed rats in ginsenosides plus dexamethasone-treated group were significantly higher than those in normal saline group. The level of body weight increment of acceleration-exposed rats in ginsenosides plus dexamethasone-treated group was significantly higher than that in dexamethasone-treated group. Conclusion: Ginsenosides combined with dexamethasone can significantly increase tolerance to acceleration of rats, and the drug combination can decrease side effects of methylprednisolone, such as body weight loss.

Electroencephalogram (EEG) classification for brain-computer interface (BCI) is a new way of realizing human-computer interreaction. In this paper the application of semi-supervised sparse representation classifier algorithms based on help training to EEG classification for BCI is reported. Firstly, the correlation information of the unlabeled data is obtained by sparse representation classifier and some data with high correlation selected. Secondly, the boundary information of the selected data is produced by discriminative classifier, which is the Fisher linear classifier. The final unlabeled data with high confidence are selected by a criterion containing the information of distance and direction. We applied this novel method to the three benchmark datasets, which were BCI I, BCI II_IV and USPS. The classification rate were 97%, 82% and 84.7%, respectively. Moreover the fastest arithmetic rate was just about 0. 2 s. The classification rate and efficiency results of the novel method are both better than those of S3VM and SVM, proving that the proposed method is effective.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2013;30(6):1159-1163
Aiming at local field potential, the present paper introduces a method of estimating lag of neuron activities between brain areas based on windowed Harmonic wavelet transform (WHWT). Firstly, the WHWT of signals of two brain areas are calculated. Secondly, the instantaneous amplitude of the signals is calculated and finally, these amplitudes are cross-correlated and the lag at which the cross-correlation peak occurs is determined as the lag of neurons activities. Comparing with amplitude cross-correlation based on Gabor wavelet transform (GWT) or Hilbert transform (HT), this method is more precise and efficient in estimating the directionality and lag.
