Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) is a complex system, featured with integrity and characteristics. Structural component TCM is a well-organized integrity of traditional Chinese medicine, reflecting multi-component integration effect of TCM. It gives us a new view on the material basis of TCM. Currently, conventional researching strategies are not enough to deal with the relationship between material basis and efficacy, multi-composition, multi-targets, and multi-section mechanism. Post-genome area gives a birth to bioinformatics, which involves systematic biology, different levels of omics, corresponding mathematics and computer techniques. It increasingly becomes a powerful tool to understand complicated system and life essential laws. Research ideas, methods. and knowledge of data mining technology of bioinformatics combined with the theory of structural components of Chinese medicine bring a new opportunity for developing structural components of Chinese medicine, systematically exploring the essence of TCM and promoting the modernization of TCM.

Chinese Journal of Nursing 2009;44(12):1081-1083
Objective To explore the factors affecting compliance of patients with maintenance hemodialysis and to provide reference for the improvement of patients' compliance. Methods Ten patients with maintenance hemodialysis were individually interviewed in this study. The data were analyzed based on phenomenological method. Results Three factors were found, including feasibility of doctor's advice, characteristics of patients such as awareness of disease related knowledge, recognition todisease progression and usual behavioral pattern,as well as social factors such as economic status, life pressure, family support, professional supervision and guidance. Conclusion In order to enhance patients' compliance,it is suggested to improve thefeasibility of doctors' advice and health education,as well as pay close attention to the influence of patients' recognition, psychological status and social factors on the compliance.

China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2013;38(24):4369-4374
The secondary development of traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) is an important content of TCM modernization process, as well as an important path for developing new TCM drugs. Under the guidance of the system theory, in response to the lack of the overall guideline and practical methods for the secondary development of TCMs at present, we introduced the overall thought of the secondary development of major TCM varieties, as well as the roles and contents of clinical research, pharmacology and pharmaceutics in the process of the secondary development of major TCM varieties, so as to provide systematic strategies and methods for the development of major TCM varieties.

China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2013;38(23):4174-4180
The secondary development of major traditional Chinese medicine varieties is one of important links during the modernization, scientification and standardization of traditional Chinese medicines. How to accurately and effectively identify the pharmacodynamic material basis of original formulae becomes the primary problem in the secondary development, as well as the bottleneck in the modernization development of traditional Chinese medicines. On the basis of the existing experimental methods, and according to the study thought that the multi-component and complex effects of traditional Chinese medicine components need to combine multi-disciplinary methods and technologies, we propose the study thought of the material basis of secondary development of major traditional Chinese medicine varieties based on the combination of in vivo and in vitro experiments. It is believed that studies on material basis needs three links, namely identification, screening and verification, and in vivo and in vitro study method corresponding to each link is mutually complemented and verified. Finally, the accurate and reliable material basis is selected. This thought provides reference for the secondary development of major traditional Chinese medicine varieties and studies on compound material basis.

Chinese Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery 2012;28(4):203-204
ObjectiveThis paper reported our experience with thoracoscopic management of isolated atrial fibrillation to define the efficacy and safety of this approach.MethodsThirtytwo patients ( 17 mem,15 women) with isolated atrial fibrillation underwent thoracoscopic surgery. All procedures were finished under 3 port incisions on left posterior chest.Among them 18 cases are paroxysmal and 8 persistent.ResultsThere was no operative death or major perioperative complications. One case was converted to limited thoracotomy because of bleeding.Operation time was 87 - 238 min.Paroxysmal atrial fibrillation occurred in 9 cases in hospital and all the cases were sinus rhythm after discharge.Followup 4 to 20 months,One persistent case was converted paroxysmal.ConclusionPatients with isolated atrial fibrillation can benefited by Videoassisted thoracoscopic left posterior approach with better exposure of left atrial and resection of the left atrial appendage, with decreased operative trauma and better results.

Clinical Medicine of China 2013;(5):529-532
Objective To investigate the role of Beclin 1 in the genesis and development of osteosarcoma and the effect of Beclin 1 overexpression on the growth of the in vitro osteosarcoma cell line MG63.Methods Real time-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western blot were used to detect the expressions of Beclin 1 in MG63 and hFOB1.19 at mRNA and protein levels ; A eukaryotic clone of plasmid pEGFP/Beclinl fusion with protein EGFP/Beclin 1 was constructed and was transfected into human osteosarcoma cell line MG63 by using lipofectamine 2000.The effect of Beclin1 overexpressions on the proliferation of MG63 cells was evaluated by MTT assay.Cell apoptosis was measured by flow cytomerty(FCM).Results The mRNA and protein expression of Beclin1 in human osteosarcoma cell line MG63 was significantly lower than that in the human osteoblast cell line hFOB1.19(0.17 ±0.06 vs 0.43 ±0.11,t =29.493,P <0.01 ; 0.13 ±0.05 vs.0.25 ± 0.08,t =6.325,P < 0.01).The transfection of pEGFP/Beclinl increased the mRNA levels of human osteosarcoma(5.34 ± 0.50) times in transfected tumor cells MG63.The rate of cell apoptosis was low in control or transfected with lipofectamine 2000 only cells at an average of(0.10 ± 0.05) %.The apoptosis rate was significantly higher in pEGFP/Beclin1 transfected cells than control cells ((4.3 ± 0.8) %,t =5.752,P < 0.05).Conclusion Compared with control cells,Bedin1 is down-regulated in the human osteosarcoma cell line MG63,which indicate the role of Beclin 1 in regulating the malignant behaviors of osteosarcoma.Beclin1 overexpressions inhibits cell proliferation and induces apoptosis in MG63 cells.

Laboratory animals and animal experiments are foundations and important support conditions for life sciences, especially for medical research. The animal experiments have drawn extensive attention from the society because of the ethical issue. This paper takes Wenzhou Medical University as an example to give a brief introduction to the ethical review about laboratory animals in the university so as to further draw attention and concerns from the public about the ethical issue of laboratory animals. We successively introduce its scientific projects, nurturing environment and ethical review of laboratory animals.
