Objective To investigate the value of multi-slice CT in the diagnosis of gastrointestinal stromal tumor. Method CT image of 15 cases of GIST confirmed by surgical pathology were analyzed retrospectively. Re-sults The tumors originated from the stomach(n = 8), duodenum (n = 1),jejunum and ileum (n = 3), colon(n = 1), mesentery(n = 2). The main display of CT were hemorrhage,necresis and cystic change within the tumor. The en-hancement of parenchyma was clear. The enhancement of venous phase was more clear than that of arterial phase. Conclusion MSCT is a valuable examination for GIST. MSCT can precisely display the location, shape, size and en-hancement of GIST. MSCT can be worth the locating,qualitative and staging diagnosis.

Objective:To explore the external factors of the development of cancer hospitals under normalized epidemic prevention and control, and to propose targeted strategies in accordance with existing practice.Methods:PEST model was used to analyze the political, economic, social and technological environment of specialized cancer hospitals, with an overall strategy proposed based on the specific analysis of a cancer hospital.Results:In the era of normalized epidemic prevention and control, cancer hospitals were facing a new environment that was common or unique to other types of medical institutions. In response, the case hospital had adopted such strategies as integrating prevention and control with medical services, integrating offline with online services, and integrating internal and external resources to promote its recovery and development.Conclusions:Cancer hospitals and government should fully leverage the environmental changes incurred by the normalization of prevention and control, and formulate a more integrated development strategy covering short, medium up to long term conditions, based on the two major objectives of epidemic prevention and control and cancer prevention and medical services.

OBJECTIVETo explore the association of 8-hydroxyguanine glycosidase OGG1 Ser326Cys polymorphism with semen quality and the risk of male infertility.

METHODSThis case-control study included 620 idiopathic infertile patients and 385 normal fertile controls. We determined their genotypes by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) and analyzed their semen quality by computer-aided semen analysis (CASA).

RESULTSThe individuals with OGG1 326 Cys/Cys showed significantly lower sperm motility and concentration ([52.1 +/- 26.7]% and (3.75 +/- 0.91) x 10(6)/ml, ln transformed value) than the Ser/Ser carriers ([59.0 +/- 21.8] % and (4.12 +/- 0.88) x 10(6)/ml, ln transformed value) (P < 0.05). The risk of male infertility increased 69% in the OGG1 326Cys allele carriers as compared with the Ser carriers (OR = 1.69, 95% CI: 1.24 -2.31).

CONCLUSIONOGG1 326 Ser/Cys polymorphism might contribute to the risk of male infertility in the southern Chinese population.

Objective To study the neuroprotective role of TFP5 in a MPTP-induced mouse model of Parkinson's disease (PD).Methods C57BL/6 mice were used as experimental animals.Briefly, 5 consecutive days of intraperitoneal injection of 25 mg/Kg 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) was applied to induce mouse PD model.The mice were randomized into 5 groups including control group,model group, scrambled TFP5 peptide (Scb) group, TFP5 group and roscovitine group.On the 7th day after the first injection of MPTP,behavior tests were performed, and then western blot method was employed to detect the expression of p25 and phosphorylated MEF2D in substantia nigra.Tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) immunohistochemical staining was performed to observe the apoptosis of dopaminergic neurons in substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc) 28 days after the first injection of MPTP.Results MPTP increased the expression of p25 (0.48±0.10 vs 0.26±0.02, P＜0.05) and phosphorylated MEF2D (0.81±0.10 vs 0.22±0.02, P＜0.05) in substantia nigra, but decreased the number of dopaminergic neurons in SNpc (348.67±24.40 vs 463.29± 19.61, P＜0.05),resulting in motor impairment in the model mice (P＜0.05).Intraperitoneal injection of 30mg/Kg of TFP5 for 3 days effectively reduced the excessive phosphorylation of MEF2D (0.25 ± 0.12 vs 0.81 ± 0.10, P＜ 0.05) in substantia nigra, rescued dopaminergic neuron reduction of SNpc (422.92±8.41 vs 348.67±24.40, P＜0.05), and improved the motor ability of the model mice (P ＜0.05).Roscovitine exerted almost same neuroprotective role as TFP5 ,while Scb had no protective effect.Conclusion TFP5 can rescue MPTP-induced damage of dopaminergic neurons in substantia nigra, and thus improve motor impairment of model mice,which may be mediated by the inhibition of Cdk5/p25 activity.

Objective To Explored the relative factors which caused the extubation failure in neurological intensive care unit (NICU).Methods It was a retrospective study.40 cases of patients who met the criteria,were brought into statistical analysis.They were admitted in NICU in Nan Fang Hospital from December 2008 to February 2011.The name,sex,age,diagnosis,respiratory parameters,24 hours discrepancy quantity,sputum,and Glasgow Coma Scale,Full Outline of UnResponsiveness Scale were recorded.SPSS 13.0 was used as statistic software.P ＜ 0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results Both in extubation successful and failure groups,GCS and Four were significantly different (all P ＜ 0.05).Howerer,there were no statistically significant in the other factors.There were significantly differences between GCS and Four in predicting extubation results (P =0.012).Logistic multiple regression showed that Four and GCS grade were predictive factor of extubation failure (P =0.041).Conclusions The result suggests that it is statistically significant to use GCS and Four as factors to predict extubation results.It can be widely used to help medical personnels monitoring the changes of patients'clinical conditions,judging prognosis,and making treatment plan in NICU.Wether other factors would effect the extubation results,more prospective,randomized controlled studies were needed.

To explore the expression spectra of apoptosis-related gene pnas-2 in normal tissues and acute leukemia (AL) patient tissues, the expressions of pnas-2 gene in tissues including heart, brain, placenta, lung, liver, skeletal muscle, kidney, pancreas, spleen, lymph node, thymus, leukocyte, bone marrow and fetal liver were detected by Northern blot. The expressions of pnas-2 in samples including 44 de novo, 9 non-CR, 27 CR and 12 relapsed AL patients were measured by real-time RT-PCR and Northern blot, and the expression levels of pnas-2 in normal and tumor tissues from 31 patients with malignancies were also detected. The results showed that pnas-2 was not expressed in the most tissues except in placenta. The results of real-time PCR indicated that pnas-2 expressions in samples of de novo, non-CR and relapsed patients ware significantly higher than that in CR, tumor tissues and normal tissues. In serial monitoring of 7 AL patients, the expression level of pnas-2 was high at first visit examination, but remarkably decreased after remission, and the pnas-2 expression level increased again when relapsed. It is concluded that the pnas-2 is specifically up-regulated in acute leukemia patients, which might be an oncogene and participate in leukemogenesis.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the ultrasonographic changes in the epididymis after long-term vasectomy.

METHODSSixty-four patients with a history of vasectomy for more than 10 years (vasectomy group) and another 60 without vasectomy (control group) were included in the study. The patients were referred to scrotal ultrasonography for epididymal indications. The shape, thickness and internal echoes of the head, body and tail of the epididymis were observed with high frequency ultrasonography (HFU), and the blood flow changes were observed with color Doppler flow imaging (CDFI) or color Doppler power imaging (CDPI).

RESULTSSignificantly higher rates were found in the vasectomy group than in the control: thickened body (64.1% vs 15.0%) and tail (78.1% vs 51.7%) of the epididymis, thickened head, body and tail (42.2% vs 8.3%) of the epididymis, and epididymal tubular ectasia (54.7% vs 8.3%). However, increased blood flow in the epididymis was seen at a significantly lower rate in the vasectomy group than in the control (15.6% vs 61.7%).

CONCLUSIONThe ultrasonographic changes in the epididymis after long-term vasectomy were mainly epididymis thickening and epididymal tubular ectasia, mostly with no or diminished blood flow in the epididymis.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the expression of VEGF mRNA and secretion of VEGF protein in NB4 and HL-60 cells affected by all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) and daunorubincin (DNR) respectively.

METHODSSemi-quantitative RT-PCR and ELISA were used to study the expression of VEGF mRNA and secretion of VEGF protein in NB4 and HL-60 cell lines treated by ATRA and DNR respectively.

RESULTSVEGF was expressed in both NB4 and HL-60 cells. The expression of VEGF mRNA and secretion of VEGF protein could be down-regulated by ATRA and DNR respectively in a time and dose dependent manner.

CONCLUSIONBesides inducing apoptosis and restraining proliferation of leukemic cells, ATRA and DNR exerted their anti-leukemia effects by reducing angiogenesis via reduction of angiogenic reaction stimulating signals.

OBJECTIVETo try to find the best method of laser therapy for the management of venous malformation and hemangioma in oral and maxillofacial regions.

METHODSFrom June, 1999 to July, 2002, 2 481 cases of venous malformations and hemangiomas were treated by several kinds lasers in our department. The lesions included port-wine stains, venous malformations, telangiectasia and hemangioma. The lasers used were continuous wave CO(2), Nd:YAG and Krypton lasers, pulsed dye laser and ultra-pulsed CO(2) lasers. The treatment modalities were direct irradiation, irradiation after surgical flap raising and photodynamic therapy.

RESULTSFollow up between 2 - 5 years revealed the treatment results as follows: excellent is 79.24%, good is 14.31% and poor is 6.45%.

CONCLUSIONSLaser therapy is one of the best method to treat venous malformations and hemangiomas. The key point is to apply different lasers properly.

The possibility of using a subunit or fragment of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) as an immunogen for birth control has been actively explored for many years. This protein homone is produced by the fertilized egg and is required for implantation of the blastocyst into the maternal uterus and the maitenance of pregnancy. In previous studies, several bio-synthesized hCG chimeric peptides (CP) that contain three linear B-cell epitopes (beta5, beta9 and beta8) of beta-hCG subunit together with various foreign 'promiscuous' T-cell epitopes were constructed and expressed as potential new hCG vaccine immunogens. In order to detect antibodies to each of the individual B-cell epitopes present in the animal antiserum raised against the hCG CPs, we decided to construct three recombinant proteins, each contains a single target B-cell epitope (betaE) of beta-hCG. Two sets of DNA fragments were chemically synthesized encoding the beta5, beta9 and beta8 epitopes (betaE) 45 approximately 52, 113 approximately 116 or 133 approximately 144 of beta-hCG subunit and were inserted into the downstream of streptavidin (Stv) gene in pTSA18 separately, with or without an extra TAA codon at the 3'-terminals of the genes. SDS-PAGE analysis revealed that only Stv-betaE (-beta5, -beta9 or -beta8) fusion genes set with the TAA codon can be expressed in E. coli BL21 (DE3) pLysS strain at high level after 1mM IPTG induction for 4 hours. Additionally, these fusion proteins can all be recognized by specific polyclonal antiserum (RS-4157) generated upon immunization with the loop peptide 38 approximately 57 of beta-hCG, monoclonal antibody (mAb) FB12 to beta9 epitope and mAb OT3A that specially recognizes reporter sequence 133 approximately 139 of beta8 epitope 137 approximately 144. Each of the proteins can be purified to 95% relative homogeneity using an improved method of preparative gel polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The yields were 5 mg per 1 L culture. The three target Stv-betaE fusion proteins will be useful in determining the immunogenicity of designed hCG CPs and hCG vaccines, including hCG DNA vaccines.
