Objective To explore the role of acute infection of Chlamydia pneumoniae (Cpn) in respiratory diseases. Methods Microimmunofluorescence test was used to detect IgG antibodies for Cpn in serum obtained from 93 inpatients and PCR was used to test Cpn in detection of Cpn DNA in throat specimens from 55 of the 99 patients. Results Acute Cpn infection was diagnosed in 35.5% of the respiratory diseases. Antibodies for Cpn (titer of ≥512) were present in 47.6% of the pneumonia group, which may suggest that during 1998 to 1999, Cpn caused an epidemic in Beijing. They were also present in 50% of asthma group, 50.0% of pulmonary heart disease group and 26.3% of lung cancer group. Only five patients (9.1%) were positive by PCR. There exists discrepancy between serological and PCR results. Conclusion Detection of IgG antibodies for Cpn conduces to diagnosis of acute Cpn infection and give advice for appropriate therapy.

Objective Research has indicated that hydrogen sulfide(H2S) can regulate the function of N-methyl-D-aspartate re-ceptors(NMDARs) in the brain, but its effect on brain resuscitation requires further investigation. The study was to speculate the effect of H2 S on brain resuscitation as well as the underlying mechanism of neuroresuscitation by investigating the effects of hydrogen sulfide and hypo-thermia on the expression of NR2A, NR2B and phospho-cAMP response element binding protein (p-CREB) of NMDARs in the hippocampus after global cerebral ischemia following by reperfusion. Methods 100 male SD rats were randomly divided into five groups(n=20):sham operation group, model group, mild hypothermia group, NaHS group, NaHS combined mild hypothermia group.Pulsinelli-Brierley four-ves-sel occlusion method was induced to build the injury rat model by reperfusion after global cerebral ischemia .After 15 minutes'ischemia, im-mediate injection of 14μmol/kg NaHS was performed intraperitoneally on NaHS group and NaHS combined mild hypothermia group , while skin cooling(rectal temperature=32-33℃) was done on mild hypothermia group and NaHS combined mild hypothermia group .6 hours late,r hip-pocampus were extracted from rat heads.Respectively, spectrophotometer was applied to measure the content of H2S, Western blot for the expres-sions of NR2 A,NR2 B and pC-REB, and RTP-CR for mRNA level of brain derived neurotrophic (BDNF). HE staining was also performed on brain tissues 72hours after reperfusion on 4 rats from each group to evaluate the pathological changes of pyramidal neurons in CA1 region. R esul ts The content of H 2 S increased in each of the four groups after ischemia-reperfusion compared with sham operation group ( 15.2 ±2.0 nmol/g) (P<0.05).In comparison to model group (25.2 ±3.5 nmol/g), NaHS group (37.5 ±4.0 nmol/g) and NaHS combined mild hypothermia group (38.7 ±4.4nmol/g ) resulted in significant high content of H2S(P<0.05), while mild hypothermia group(26.5 ±3.5nmol/g ) got a mild increase(P>0.05).The gray values of NR2A and NR2B in each group increased compared with sham operation group(P<0.05), re-sulting in NR2A/NR2B<1 in model group and mild hypothermia group while NR2A/NR2B>1 in NaHS group and NaHS combined mild hy-pothermia group.Compared with the expression of p-CREB(0.55 ±0.06) in model group, there were significant increases in mild hypother-mia group(0.99 ±0.15), NaHS group(1.05 ±0.12), NaHS combined mild hypothermia group(1.02 ±0.15)(P<0.05).Compared with the expression of BNDF mRNA(0.83 ±0.12) in model group, there were significant increases in mild hypothermia group (1.11 ±0.13), NaHS group(1.27 ±0.16), NaHS combined mild hypothermia group(1.35 ±0.16)(P<0.05).In comparison to model group, there were signifi-cant alleviation in the injury of pyramidal neurons in hippocampal CA1 region in mild hypothermia group, NaHS group, NaHS combined mild hypothermia group, with the best effect in NaHS combined mild hypothermia group . Conclusion Hydrogen sulfide combined mild hypo-thermia can selectively activate synaptic NMDA receptors and trigger the prosurvival CREB signaling pathway to exert brain resuscitation .

Objective To compare different Nrf2 expressions in glioblastoma cell lines and glioma stem cells (GSCs) from xenografts and to study the concentration of Nrf2 in nuclear. Methods GSCs were analyzed by immunofluorescence and different expressions of Nrf2 in glioblastoma cell lines and GSCs from xenografts were detected with real-time RCR and Western. Results GSCs were successfully isolated from xenografts of U251 and U87 cell lines. The percentage of tumor stem cells in total cells was 1.24%, and that was 1.63% in xenografts. Immunofluorescence indicated that Nrf2 was overexpressed in GSCs as compared with that in glioblastoma cell lines. Conclusion Nrf2 may be a potential biomarker and rational therapeutic target for GSCs.

A total of 101 honey samples that originated from 20 different unifloral honey and other multifloral honey samples were collected from China.FT-NIR spectrometer were applied to determinate the content of fructose and glucose of honey with two different modes: transflectance (800-2500 nm, 2 mm optical path length) and transmittance (800-1370 nm, 20 mm optical path length). It was found that the prediction accuracy of fructose and glucose had significant difference with the two modes. In order to analyze the reason of this difference, support vector machine (SVM) was used to analyze the non-linear information, and genetic algorithm (GA) was used to analyze the characteristic wavelengths. The result indicated that the detection difference of fructose and glucose was originated from their different characteristic wavelengths.Through the optimization of detection method, it was found that for the determination of glucose, short wavelength and long optical path length should be used, on the other side, the whole wavelength region and short wavelength, with selecting the characteristic wavelength to avoid the disturb of water can also be used. For the determination of fructose, whole wavelength region and short optical path length should be used.Linear regression methods such as PLSR could obtain good results, and non-linear methods such as SVM did not improve the model performance.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of Bushen Gujin Recipe (BGR) on serum and synovial expression of interleukin-1 (IL-1) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) in knee osteoarthritis (KOA) model rabbits.
METHODSTotally 36 8-month-old healthy male New Zealand white rabbits were randomly divided into 4 groups, i.e., the normal control group, the model group, the Western medicine group (Meloxicam, at the daily dose of 6 mg/kg), and the TCM group (BGR, at the daily dose of 53 g/kg), 9 in each group. Modeling was performed in all rabbits except those in the normal control group by using Hulth A method. All medication was performed for 8 consecutive weeks. Contents of IL-1 and TNF-α were detected using ELISA from serum, partial synovial tissue of the front knee joint, cartilage and subchondral bone of the medial femoral condyle.
RESULTSThe joint space became narrowed in the Western medicine group, ranging between the model group and the TCM group. The articular surface was rough with obvious osteophytes. The joint space was slightly narrower in the TCM group; the articular surface was slightly rough with mild osteophytes. Compared with the normal control group, contents of IL-1 and TNF-α in serum and synovial increased in the model group (P < 0.01). Compared with the model group, contents of IL-1 and TNF-α in serum and the synovial fluid decreased in the two treatment groups (P < 0.01). There was no statistical difference in contents of IL-1 and TNF-α between the Western medicine group and the TCM group.
CONCLUSIONBGR promoted the synthesis of cartilage matrix and carti- lage repair through inhibiting the secretion of IL-1 and TNF-α, and prolonging cartilage degeneration.

OBJECTIVETo compare the efficacy of the patients of xerosis conjunctivitis with liver and kidney yin deficiency among the combined therapy of acupuncture and Shi's manipulation, common acupuncture and artificial tears therapy.
METHODSOne hundred and eight patients were randomized into an acupuncture group, a SHI's manipulation group and an artificial tears group, 36 cases in each group. A total of 15 cases dropped out before the end of the study, including 4 cases in the acupuncture group, 6 cases in the SHI's manipulation group, and 5 cases in the artificial tears group. In the acupuncture group, acupuncture was applied to Jingming (BL 1) and Qiuhou (EX-HN 7) on the affected side, and the bilateral Sanyinjiao (SP 6) and Taixi (KI 3). The needles were retained for 20 min. In the SHI's manipulation group, on the basis of the treatment as the acupuncture group, Shuigou (GV26) was added and stimulated with SHI's acupuncture manipulation. In these two groups, acupuncture was given 3 times a week totally for 3 weeks. In the artificial tears group, sodium hyaluronate eye drops were used, 5 times a day, for 3 weeks totally. Separately, before treatment, at the moment after the 1st treatment and 3 weeks after treatment, the subjective symptom score, Schirmer I test, breakup time (BUT) of tear film were observed in each group.
RESULTS(1) Subjective symptom score: at the moment after the 1st treatment and 3 weeks after treatment, the scores in each group were all reduced significantly as compared with those before treatment (all P < 0.05). At the moment after the 1st treatment, the score in the SHI's manipulation group and the artificial tears group was reduced apparently as compared with that in the acupuncture group (both P < 0.05). In 3 weeks of treatment, the score in the SHI's manipulation group was reduced apparently as compared with the acupuncture group and the artificial tears group (both P < 0.05). (2) For Schirmer I test, at the moment of the 1st treatment, the result in the SHI's manipulation group and the artificial tears group was improved significantly as compared with that before treatment (both P < 0.05). In 3 weeks of treatment, the result in the acupuncture group and the SHI's manipulation group group was improved significantly as compared with that before treatment (both P < 0.05). At the moment of the 1st treatment, the result in the artificial tears group was improved significantly as compared with the acupuncture group and the SHI's manipulation group (both P < 0.05). In 3 weeks of treatment, the result in the acupuncture group and the SHI's manipulation group was better than that in the artifi-cial tears group separately (both P < 0.05). (3) For BUT, the result in the acupuncture group and the SHI's manipulation group was prolonged significantly as compared with that before treatment and was prolonged apparently as compared with that in the artificial tears group (both P < 0.05) in 3 weeks of treatment.
CONCLUSIONThe intervention of SHI's acupuncture manipulation relieves the subjective symptoms of xerosis conjunctivitis of liver and kidney yin deficiency and achieves the same efficacy as the common acupuncture and artificial tears treatment. It does not present the apparent advantages as the common acupuncture in the short term for promoting the tear secretion and tears film repair.
