3.A Case of Conjoined Twin.

Conjoined twins occur when there is imcomplete fission of the inner cell mass later at approximately 13 to 15 days after fertilization. The earlist case in the literat.ure appears to be that of the Biddenden Maids who were born in England in 1100. since then over two hundred cases of successful separation were reported on literature. And also successful separation cases were reported by Seung et al.(1991) in Korea. Conjoined twins occur between one in 50,000 to 100,000 births but real incidence is one in 200,000 because two thirds are stillbirth or died immediately after birth. The conjoined twins are not associated with maternal age, race or family history and 70 % of them are females. We experienced a case of conjoined twins with omphalopagus and performed surgical separation. A brief review of related literatures was done.

4.Perinatal Prognosis of Single Umbilical Artery.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the perinatal prognosis of fetuses with a single umbilical artery. METHODS: From 1992 to 1998, nineteen cases with single umbilical artery(SUA) was observed in 8,704 deliveries at Chonnam University Hospital. RESULTS: Out of nineteen fetuses, thirteen fetuses with single umbilical artery were detected by antenatal ultrasonographic examination and six fetuses were detected after birth. The male to female ratio was 0.9: 1. Congenital malformations were observed in 8 babies(42.1%) and included leg deformity, esophageal atresia, imperforated anus, ventriculomegaly, meningocele, hydronephrosis, ventricular septal defect, joint contracture, cleft lip and palate, toe anomaly, imperforated anus, kyphosis, no urethra and testis, clubfoot, patent ductus arteriosus and rnild mitral regurgitation. Among 10 cases of karyotyping analysis three cases were diagnosed as trisomy 18. Fourteen fetuses(77.8%) showed growth restriction at delivery. Antenatal obstetric complications were hydramnios(n = 3), oligohydramnios(n =2), and severe preeclampsia(n = 3). CONCLUSION: Careful ultrasonographic evaluation for the identification of a SUA is necessary because of its frequent association with congenital anomaly, growth restriction and cytogenetic abnormality.

5.Learning Element Recognition and Academic Achievement of Nursing Student Receiving PBL with Simulation Education.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to analyze how a nursing student recognizes PBL with simulation education and its relationship to academic achievement. METHODS: The study objects were the students in C college who learn through PBL using simulator for 15 weeks(September 2007 to December 2007). Learning element recognition was developed by Cho(2002) and three key evaluations(performance, self-evaluation, and colleague evaluation) were designed by professors. RESULTS: Learning element recognition ranged from 2.37 to 4.83 with the average at 3.94. For Learning element recognition, students who preferred discussion score 4.15. This was statistically more significant than those who do not. Students who preferred presentations show significantly higher score in colleague evaluation. For Learning element recognition and academic achievement, self-evaluation and colleague evaluation showed relationship to PBL learning element. CONCLUSION: There was definitely a relationship with PBL learning element and academic achievement after learning the PBL with simulation education.

6.Participation and Academic Achievement by Learning Styles in Problem Based Learning.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to analyze nursing students' learning styles and relationship of learning style to participation and academic achievement. METHOD: The study participants were nursing students in C college learning through problem based learning (PBL). Data were collected using a questionnaire which included Kolb's learning styles. Performance evaluation and paper examination were used to evaluate academic achievement. RESULTS: Most of the students had converger type learning style. Student with a tendency to abstract conceptualization, such as converger type and assimilator type, preferred discussion and presentation. The students with converger type learning style participated and achieved better than students with diverger style. CONCLUSION: The results indicate that learning style was related to participation and academic achievement. Therefore in order to use PBL effectively, facilitators should consider students' learning styles.

This study investigates the reciprocal, longitudinal relationship between smartphone dependence and externalizing behavior problems in children.
Methods:
A total of 379 school-aged children (7–12 years old) were assessed using the Smartphone Overdependency Observer Scale and the Korean Version of the Child Behavior Checklist for Ages 6–18 at four six-month intervals from June 2021 to June 2022. Among them, 338 children completed at least two assessments. An autoregressive cross-lagged model was employed to examine the bidirectional relationships and temporal stability between smartphone overdependence and externalizing behavior problems while controlling for gender, age, and baseline internalizing behavior problems.
Results:
Both variables demonstrated significant autoregressive effects, indicating stability over time. Cross-lagged analysis revealed that higher smartphone dependence predicted increased externalizing behavior problems in subsequent periods while externalizing behavior problems did not predict future smartphone dependence.
Conclusion
Smartphone dependence appears to contribute to externalizing behavior problems in children, highlighting the critical need for early interventions that promote healthy digital habits to mitigate behavioral challenges.
