Objective To study the relationship between facial skin conditions and TCM constitutional types; To provide new means and methods for guidance of skin conservation and skin health improvement from the aspect of constitutional types. Methods Totally 2241 female volunteers in nine provincial capital cities and municipalities participated in this research, and were investigated by web questionnaire. Constitutional types were determined according to the“Classification and Judgment of TCM Constitutional Types”standard issued by China Association of Chinese Medicine. Skin color, glossiness, delicate degree, moistness, firmness, resilience, uniformity and other indicators were scored. Skin conditions were classified into three groups:1-3 score group, 4-6 score group, and 7-9 score group, and the constitutional differences among each group were compared. Results Yang-deficiency and mild constitutional types accounted for the largest proportion. Yellowish skin color accounted for the largest proportion, and the next were white, dark and reddish. Yang-deficiency constitutional type accounted for the largest proportion in 1-3 score group, and the second was Qi-stagnation; Yang-deficiency and mild constitutional types accounted for the largest proportion in 4-6 score group; mild constitutional type accounted for the largest proportion in 7-9 score group. Conclusion People with mild constitutional type got highest score in every skin index, while biased constitutional types influenced the score in varied degrees. The constitutional types which influenced Chinese urban females’ facial skin index more were Yang-deficiency and Qi-stagnation constitutional types.

OBJECTIVETo improve the compliance with subcutaneous specific immunotherapy (SCIT) by analyzing the causes of stopping SCIT in asthmatic children.
METHODSA telephone follow-up was conducted in the asthmatic children who received SCIT but did not finished the 3-year course of treatment from June 2005 to October 2010, so as to analyze the causes of stopping SCIT.
RESULTSA total of 616 asthmatic children received SCIT, and 322 (52.2%) of them stopped SCIT.A total of 127 cases (39.4%) of the 322 children received telephone follow-up. In the 127 children, 53 (41.8%) stopped the SCIT for the reason of bad effecacy, 29 (22.8%) for remission of asthma,12 (9.4%) for expensive fees, 10 (7.9%) for complex process of treatment, 10 (7.9%) for adverse reaction, 9 (7.1%) for long distance from the hospital, and 4 (3.1%) for having no time for treatment. And 69 (54.3%) of them stopped SCIT in the first year, 28 (22.1%) in the second year, and 30 (23.6%) in the third year. Currently, 85 cases (66.9%) of the 127 asthmatic children were up to the control level, and the other 42 cases were not. There was significant difference in the control level of asthma berween the group receiving treatment with regular inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) and the group receiving treatment with irregular ICS (P<0.01).
CONCLUSIONSBad efficacy, remission of asthma, expensive fees, complex process of treatment, and adverse reaction are the main reasons contributing to the stop of SCIT in asthmatic children. To improve the compliance with SCIT, It is important to make the patients and their parents understand the long treatment course and slow effect of SCIT, encourage them to use objective indices for evaluating the state of asthma, and effectively prevent and treat the adverse reactions.

OBJECTIVETo observe effect of acupuncture on serum macrophage inflammatory protein-2 (MIP-2) and MIP-2 mRNA expressions in isolated Fei and Dachang of severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) induced acute lung injury (ALI) rats in the acute phase.
METHODSForty male Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups, i.e., the sham-operation group, the SAP group, the acupuncture treatment group, and the acupuncture control group, 10 in each group. The SAP model was induced by retrograde infusion of 3.5% sodium taurocholate into the pancreatobiliary duct. Under the guidance of "Fei and Dachang exterior-inferiorly related", points were acupunctured along Fei, Dachang, and Pi channels, as well as those points on the back of rats in the acupuncture treatment group 0.5 h after modeling. Besides, points were acupunctured along Fei and Pi channels, as well as those points on the back of rats in the acupuncture control group 0.5 h after modeling. Serum levels of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) and nitric oxide (NO), and MIP-2 expressions were examined 6 h after modeling. Expressions of MIP-2 mRNA in isolated lung and large intestine tissues were detected by reverse transcription PCR.
RESULTSCompared with the sham-operation group, serum levels of TNF-alpha and NO, and expressions of MIP-2 and MIP-2 mRNA in isolated lung and large intestine tissues were significantly higher in the SAP group (P < 0.05). Each index was lower in the acupuncture treatment group than in the SAP group and the acupuncture control group (P < 0.05). Besides, the serum level of MIP-2 and the MIP-2 mRNA expression in isolated lung and large intestine tissues were positively correlated in all groups except the sham-operation group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSUnder the guidance of "Fei and Dachang exterior-inferiorly related", acupuncture could remarkably reduce the severity of SAP induced ALI rats in the acute phase. Its mechanism might be related to suppressing over-expressions of MIP-2 mRNA in isolated lung and large intestine tissues, and lowering the serum MIP-2 expression level.

OBJECTIVEInterleukin-4 plays a key role in the development of asthma. Overseas studies have shown that Q576R polymorphism in the interleukin-4 receptor (IL-4R) gene is related to asthma as well as increased serum IgE levels. This study was designed to investigate the association of Q576R polymorphism in IL-4R gene with childhood asthma and serum IgE levels.
METHODSThe polymorphism of IL-4R Q576R was determined by PCR/RFLP and serum total IgE level was measured using ELISA in 94 children with asthma. Sixty-eight healthy children served as controls.
RESULTSThe distribution frequency of heterozygous genotype Q576R (41%) and mutant allele R576 (26%) was significantly higher in children with asthma than that of controls (16% each) (P < 0.01; P < 0.05). The total serum IgE level between patients with genotype Q576R and Q576Q was not significantly different (225.78 +/- 51.43 IU/mL vs 163.24 +/- 31.32 IU/mL, P> 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSThe mutant R576 allele of IL-4R may be one of the candidate genes for susceptibility to asthma. Allele R576 of IL-4R is related to asthma but is irrelevant to the total serum IgE level in children with asthma.

Chinese Medical Journal 2011;124(6):811-816
BACKGROUNDAvailable drug-eluting stents (DES) have achieved great success in reducing restenosis rates. Recently, investigators have demonstrated that the durable polymer carrier plays a significant role in DES-related hypersensitive reaction and delays vessel healing. TIVOLI stent is a novel sirolimus-eluting coronary stent with biodegradable coating containing sirolimus and polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) polymer. The present study sought to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of the TIVOLI biodegradable-polymer-based sirolimus-eluting stent in treating patients with coronary artery disease.
METHODSA prospective, multicenter clinical trial comparing TIVOLI biodegradable coated sirolimus-eluting stent with ENDEAVOR zotarolimus-eluting stent was conducted in 324 patients (TIVOLI group: 168 patients; ENDEAVOR group: 156 patients) at 12 centers in China to demonstrate the non-inferiority of in-stent late loss with TIVOLI stent compared to ENDEAVOR stent in subjects with a maximum of two de novo native coronary artery lesions (lesion length ≤ 40 mm, reference vessel diameter 2.25-4.00 mm). The primary end point was angiographic in-stent late loss at 8-month. The secondary end points were clinical outcomes at 2 years, including major adverse cardiac events (cardiac death, myocardial infarction, or target-lesion revascularization) and stent thrombosis.
RESULTSAngiographic late lumen loss at 8 months in the TIVOLI group was superior to the ENDEAVOR group (in-stent (0.25 ± 0.33) mm vs. (0.57 ± 0.55) mm, diff (95%CI) -0.23 (-0.32, -0.14), P < 0.0001; in-segment (0.25 ± 0.33) mm vs. (0.42 ± 0.55) mm, diff (95%CI) -0.13 (-0.23, -0.02), P = 0.0083). The rate of in-stent binary restenosis at 8 months was reduced from 8.6% in the ENDEAVOR group to 2.9% in the TIVOLI group (P = 0.0229). Compared to ENDEAVOR stent, TIVOLI stent resulted in a significant reduction in target-lesion revascularization (4.2% vs. 9.6%, P = 0.0495) at 2 years. The two-year major adverse cardiac events (MACE) rate was lower for the TIVOLI group, but not significantly different (6.6% vs. 10.9%, P = 0.1630).
CONCLUSIONSTIVOLI was superior to ENDEAVOR stent with respect to late lumen loss at 8 months, and it yielded both lower rates of angiographic binary restenosis at 8 months and target lesion revascularization (TLR) at 2 years. The MACE rate at 2 years was comparable in both groups.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the alteration of HBV markers in liver allograft of HBV related recipients pre and post liver transplantation under Lamivudine or combination of Lamivudine with HBIG prophylaxis and explore the mechanism of HBV de nova infection in liver allograft after orthotopic liver transplantation, as well as seek to establish a optimal prophylactic protocol.
METHODSThe serial liver biopsy specimens of 90 liver allograft and sera of 78 liver transplant recipients during operation and after 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, 24 months post transplantation have been collected and detected for HBV markers with enzyme-linked radioimmunoassay, fluorescent quantitative assay for HBV-DNA in serology and with immunohistochemistry stain, HBV-DNA in situ hybridization in histology for detection of HBV markers in liver allograft samples.
RESULTSWhether recipients with active replicative or inactive replicative HBV preoperatively, none of positive HBV-DNA, HBsAg and HBcAg in 100% liver biopsy specimens with HBV-DNA hybridization in situ and immunohistochemistry stains in histology within 2 hours after reperfusion.
CONCLUSIONWhatever HBV replicative status the recipients have before surgery, no evidence of HBV particles direct invasion to the liver allograft from HBV related cirrhotics during operation under current prophylactic measures. However, the further supposed mechanism and its significance in HBV de nova infection of liver allograft remained to be disclosed further.

OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the protective effect of electroacupuncture (EA) at "Zusanli" (ST 36) in pregnant rats on lung dysplasia of newborn rats with intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) induced by maternal food restriction.
METHODS:
Twenty-four female SD rats were randomly divided into a control group, a control+EA group, a model group and a model+EA group, 6 rats in each group. From the 10th day into pregnancy to the time of delivery, the rats in the model group and the model+EA group were given with 50% dietary restriction to prepare IUGR model. From the 10th day into pregnancy to the time of delivery, the rats in the control+EA group and the model+EA group were treated with EA at bilateral "Zusanli" (ST 36), once a day. The body weight of offspring rats was measured at birth, and the body weight and lung weight of offspring rats were measured on the 21st day after birth. The lung function was measured by small animal lung function detection system; the lung tissue morphology was observed by HE staining; the content of peroxisome proliferator activated receptor γ (PPARγ) in lung tissue was detected by ELISA.
RESULTS:
Compared with the control group, the body weight at birth as well as the body weight, lung weight, lung dynamic compliance (Cdyn) and PPARγ at 21 days after birth in the model group were significantly decreased (
CONCLUSION
EA at "Zusanli" (ST 36) may protect the lung function and lung histomorphology changes by regulating the level of PPARγ of lung in IUGR rats induced by maternal food restriction.
