Based on the character of the molecular structure, the prodrugs of phosphates and phosphonates were divided into two categories. The first is the drug which contained the phosphate group, introducing protected groups to increase lipophilicity and improve bioavailability. The other one is the drug which had no phosphate group, introducing the phosphate group into molecules to enhance the solubility, regulate the distribution coefficient and enhance the drug-like property. This review focuses on the application of phosphates and phosphonates in drug research and development based on improvement of physico-chemical property, drug safety and the pharmacokinetics.

Objective To discuss the application of color-coded digital subtraction angiography (ccDSA) in quantitatively analyzing the instant perfusion changes of hepatic tumors during transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE).Methods The clinical data of 35 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who underwent TACE were reviewed. Before and after TACE,two-dimensional DSA (2D-DSA) was performed by using the same parameters in all patients. The image sequences were post-processed with 2D-ccDSA.On ccDSA images the regions of interest (ROIs) were measured to obtain the time-contrast-intensity (CI[t]) curves as well as the perfusion parameters, including tumor blood supply time (TBST),area under the curve (AUC),contrast-intensity peak (C I-Peak) and maximum upslope (MS),which were used to evaluate the degree of the reduction in direct blood flow and in tumor staining. The relationship between the above parameters and subjective angiographic chemoembolization endpoint (SACE) was analyzed. Results After TACE,the perfusion parameters were significantly different from pre-TACE ones.AUC and CI-Peak values were dramatically decreased. After TACE,TBST slowed a significant delay. The reduction of perfusion about 30%-40% was equal to SACE grade Ⅲ;the reduction of perfusion about 60%-70% was equal to SACE grade Ⅳ.Conclusion 2D-ccDSA can be used to objectively and quantitatively evaluate the effect of TACE on the perfusion of hepatic tumors, providing useful indexes for making quantitative assessment of the degree of blood flow stagnation and the reduction of tumor staining.

BACKGROUNDStereotactic radiosurgery is an alternative to resection of intracranial cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), while it will fail in some cases. This study aimed to evaluate the changes after stereotactic radiosurgery for AVMs.
METHODSNineteen cases with cerebral AVMs had failure after stereotactic radiosurgery therapy. The symptoms and angiography were assessed. All patients underwent microsurgery. Pathologic examination was performed for all cases and electron microscopic examination was carried out in 6 patients.
RESULTSSeven cases had hemorrhage from 12 to 98 months after stereotactic radiosurgery, 5 had headache, 4 had refractory encephalon edema, 2 had epilepsy as a new symptom and 1 had a pressure cyst 5 years after radiosurgery. Angiography in 18 cases, 8 - 98 months after radiation therapy, demonstrated no significant changes in 5 cases, slight reduction in 9, near complete obliteration in 1 and complete obliteration in 3. An abnormal vessel was found on pathologic examination in 17 cases, even one case had obliterated in angiography. Electron microscopy examination showed vessel wall weakness, but the vessels remained open and blood circulated. One case died because of a moribund state before surgery. The other 18 cases had no new neurological deficiencies, seizure control and no hemorrhage occurred after microsurgery at an average follow-up of 3 years.
CONCLUSIONStereotactic radiotherapy for AVMs should have a long period follow-up. If serious complications occur, microsurgery can be performed as salvage treatment.

A hybridoma cell line 1G4A7 secreting monoclonal antibody (McAb) specific to hemagglutinin of avian paramyxovirus type 2 (APMV-2) was developed by fusing the spleen cells of APMV-2 immunized BAlb/c mice with SP2/0 myeloma cells. The immunoglobulin subclass of 1G4A7 was IgG1 with light chain kappa and the affinity constant against APMV-2 was 1.02 X 10(10). Identified by HI and indirect ELISA, the McAb titers in ascities were 10 log 2 and 1 : 10(6) respectively. The McAb did not cross react with the common avian viruses, showing good specificity. There existed obvious differences in antigenitic relationship among APMV-2 viruses analyzed by HI and indirect ELISA using McAb 1G4A7.

Objective To investigate the morphologic characteristics of gonococcal inflammation of paraurethral glands in males. Methods Eleven male patients with gonococcal inflammation of paraurethral glands were examined by both real-time ultrasound imaging (Siemens Acuson X300) and 3.0 T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI, Philips Achieva). Results High-frequency ultrasound imaging revealed tubular echoic areas with well-defined borders and smooth margins in all the patients. The inside of these tubular areas was weak-echoic. These tubular echoic areas were blind in one end, but open in the other end, and ran in parallel with the urethra. The mean lumen diameter was 1.1 ± 0.2 mm (range, 0.7 - 1.3 mm) , and the mean lumen length was 8.4 ± 0.6 mm (range, 7.0 - 12.0 mm). Anechoic liquid-filled areas were seen in the tubular echoic areas in two patients. Paraurethral ducts were not detected by 3.0 T MRI in these patients. Conclusions High-frequency ultrasound imaging can clearly show the morphologic characteristics of gonococcal inflammation of paraurethral glands in males, and provide valuable ultrasound images for surgery.
