1. Inhibitory effect of nitric oxide-donating aspirin against prostatic cancer angiogenesis in tumor-bearing mice
Academic Journal of Second Military Medical University 2010;31(5):504-507
Objective: To study the inhibitory effect of nitric oxide-donating aspirin(NO-ASA) on prostatic cancer growth and angiogenesis in subcutaneously-injected tumor in mice. Methods: The tumor-bearing mice were subcutaneously injected with NO-ASA, and the tumor growth was observed. ELISA was used to assay the expression of VEGF in mouse sera; real-time PCR was used to examine the expression of VEGF mRNA in tumor tissues; immunohistochemistry was used to detect CD34 expression and to quantify the number of microvessels in the tumor; and Hen's egg test chorioallantoic membrane (HET-CAM) was employed to detect the in vitro angiogenesis. Results: NO-ASA inhibited the prostate cancer growth in mice. The expression of VEGF was greatly decreased in the serum and tumor tissues, and CD34 expression was significantly decreased in the tumor tissues compared with the control group (P<0.05, P<0.01). NO-ASA also greatly inhibited the angiogenesis in HET-CAM. Conclusion: NO-ASA can inhibit prostate cancer growth and angiogenesis.
2.Comparison of DWI and CT perfusion in diagnosis of liver fibrosis
Chinese Journal of Medical Imaging Technology 2010;26(2):297-300
Objective To explore the diagnostic value of diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) and CT perfusion imaging (CTPI) in diagnosis of liver fibrosis. Methods Fifty-seven hepatic fibrosis patients and 23 normal controls received DWI (b=500 s/mm2), ADC value of different fibrosis stages was measured, while 35 patients and all 23 normal controls received CTPI. The parameters of CTPI including blood flow (BF), blood volume (BV), mean transit time (MTT), hepatic arterial fraction (HAF) and permeability surface (PS) were measured. Analysis of variances was performed to compare the difference among the groups in both examinations. ROC curve was used to analyze the sensitivity and specificity of DWI and CTPI. Results The difference of ADC value between control group and S1 group was not significant, but between control group and S2, S3, S4 group and among group S2, group S3, group S4 was significant. In the parameters of CTPI, only the difference of HAF between control group and S3-S4 group was significant. Sensitivity and specificity of DWI and CTPI was 78.90%, 82.60% and 66.67%, 73.91%, respectively. Conclusion DWI is superior to CTPI for early diagnosis and degrading of liver fibrosis.

Aim To investigate the effect of the GABAA receptor on the analgesia, hypnosis and amnesia induced by GABA in mice. Methods GABA was intracerebroventricularly(icv) injected and securinine,a GABAA receptor antagonist, was intravenously(iv) injected after the GABA intracerebroventricularly injection. Then four techniques including hot-plate test, acetic acid-induced writhing test, awaken test as well as step-through test & step-down test were employed to evaluate the effects on the pain index in hot-plate test(HPPI),the writhing times, the sleeping time(ST) and the latency & the number of errors. Results GABA increased the HPPI and ST,but decreased writhing times and the latency & increased the number of errors in conscious mice;the above effects are dose-dependent.Securinine could antagonize the effects stimulated by GABA.Conclusion GABA lead to analgesia, hypnosis and amnesia.GABAA receptor might be the important target for these effects.

Objective To assess the value of MSCT in the evaluation of the anatomy and variation of hepatic veins for living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) donors and the significance of vessel variation in surgical operation. Methods A total of 238 subjects who wanted to be the donors of LDLT underwent MSCT plain and enhanced examination, and the hepatic veins were evaluated. Results Among all 238 subjects, according to Nakamura's classification of hepatic veins, 164 were type Ⅰ, 60 were type Ⅱ, 14 were type Ⅲ. The left hepatic vein (LHV) shared a common trunk with the middle one in 167 subjects. Branches of Ⅷ going along the cross section and diameter larger than 5 mm were detected in 105 subjects. The Ⅳ segment veins drained into MHV in 68, into LHV in 7 subjects. Right inferior hepatic vein with diameter larger than 3 mm was found in 108 subjects, while the distance between RHV and IRHV were larger than 4 cm in 55 subjects. Conclusion MSCT can offer details and exact information about the donors pre-operation, and is an important non-invasive method for the evaluation of hepatic veins of potential LDLT donors.

Objective To analyze behavior of having multiple sexual partners among outside school adolescents and the impact factors in one county.Method Participatory method was adopted in the survey, trainees of an occupational training center were trained to investigate their peers with anonymous questionnaires. Results The subjects who had more than 3 sexual partners accounted for 38.3%,and the factors related to multiple sexual partners were complicated. The most im- portant protective factor was to raise level of HIV/AIDS related knowledge (OR=0.85);the key risk factors were: promiscuous behaviors (OR=4.91) and prostitution(OR=3.37) among their friends. Conclusion For reducing behav- ior of having multiple sexual partners among outside school adolescents,it is essential to promote HIV/AIDS related health education and to enhance their ability to respond to pressures from their bad peers.

Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value of quantitative analysis parameters of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in differential diagnosis of prostatic disease. Methods 12 patients with prostate cancer and 16 patients with benign disease underwent DCE-MRI examination.Region of interest (ROI) were drawn in areas of cancerous foci, normal prostate peripheral zone and normal prostate central gland to measure the values of Ktrans (transport constant),Kep (rate constant),Ve (extravascular extracellular volume fraction).Values of the three parameters were analyzed by ANOVA and the differences were compared between the different tissues. Results The values of Ktrans,Kep and Ve were (0.42±0.10)/min,(0.64±0.11)/min,(0.61±0.14) respectively in the area of cancerous foci, while (0.17 ±0.08)/min,(0.32 ±0.10)/min,(0.59±0.11) respectively in normal prostate peripheral zone, and (0.33±0.12)/min,(0.50± 0.16)/min,(0.62 ±0.07) respectively in normal prostate central gland. The differences in Ktrans,Kep values were statistically significant between cancerous foci, normal prostate peripheral zone and normal prostate central gland (F =31.646,27.196,respectively,all P < 0.05),but no statistically significant difference was found in the Ve value between the three different tissues (F=0.533,P> 0.05).Conclusions Quantitative analysis of DCE-MBI can be used to differentiate benign from malignant prostatic diseases, which hasa great application prospect.
