The origin of osteoclast-like giant cell tumor (OGCT) of the salivary gland has been debated because the prototypic cells of osteoclast-like cells and mononuclear stromal cells are largely unexplained in this gland. Bone marrow-derived CD14+ and CD45+ monocyte-derived multipotential cells (CD14+/CD45+ MOMC) may be one of the possible origins of OGCTs of salivary glands, which have never been explored in salivary OGCTs. We present a case of OGCT accompanied with carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma in the parotid gland of a 67-year-old Korean female. The tumor presented as a rapidly growing cervical mass comprising a central area of carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma and a peripheral circumferential area of OGCT. The immunohistochemical staining pattern was phenotypically consistent with bone marrow-derived CD14+/CD45+ MOMC. This case is the first report of a salivary OGCT in Korea.

4.Advances in the Investigation of Asthma Phenotypes.
Pediatric Allergy and Respiratory Disease 2012;22(2):129-137
Asthma is a complex and heterogeneous disease, which is comprised of seperate phenotypes sharing common characteristics, such as airway inflammation, bronchial hyperresponsiveness and variable airflow limitation. Traditionally, asthma phenotypes have been described by combinations of clinical characteristics, according to the expert's recommendation, but they are now focusing on the pathobiologic mechanisms often using exploratory statistical methods. Several phenotypes and endotypes have been suggested by biased or unbiased phenotyping approaches. However, more detailed studies are still needed. In the future, more integrated large-scaled consortium of cohorts, including clinical information, genetics, molecular biology, and experiments will promote to understand the pathobiologic mechanisms of asthma phenotypes for the personalized therapy.

6.Restoration of Mandibular Edentulous Patient By Dental Implant.
The Journal of Korean Academy of Prosthodontics 2000;38(3):360-365
The completely edentulous patient has few treatment options in conventional dentistry. When implants are considered, treatment plans range from a 2-implant overdenture to a completely implant-supported prosthesis. Fixed prosthesis is often the preferred selection of the edentulous patient. fixed full-arch ceramo-metal restorations can be a predictable implant treatment modality for the edentulous patient. Implant-supported fixed prosthesis has several advantages: predictability, fixedness, retrievability, improved function, lower maintenance of prosthesis, long-term published success. Edentulous patients with a severely resorbed mandible often experience problems with their dentures. Treatment concepts involving two to four implants for the support of an overdenture have been proposed. There seems to be no need to insert more than two endosteal implants to support an overdenture, however, long-term prospective studies are needed to support this notion. Using short endosseous implants and an overdenture in the extremely resorbed mandible is a justified treatment option because of the relative simplicity and low morbidity of this treatment strategy. Implant-supported overdenture has several advantages: Cost, retrievability, hygiene access, profile and contour control, increasedretention and stability, implant installed in a predicted region(ant. mandible).

Journal of Korean Academy of Child Health Nursing 2012;18(3):101-108
PURPOSE: This study was designed to analyze recent trends in research about caregivers of hospitalized children in Korea and to suggest future research directions in this area. METHODS: Eighty one studies selected from http://www.kan.or.kr, www.childnursing.or.kr, www.riss4u.net, and www.ndsl.kr published from 1995 to 2011 were used. The analysis framework of concepts was derived from client domain (Kim, 2000) and knowledge type (Kim et al., 2004). RESULTS: In terms of research design, nonexperimental studies (82.7%) were the most frequent, followed by experimental studies (14.8%) and qualitative studies (2.5%). Mothers were the most frequent caregivers, and hospitalization was the most frequent health problem of the children. In terms of categories of the concepts, 35 (39.3%) studies included essentialistic concepts like coping and adaptation, 15 (16.9%) studies included problematic concepts like anxiety and uncertainty, and 39 (43.8%) studies included health-care experiential concepts like educational needs and nursing needs. In term of knowledge types, there were 35 (39.3%) studies of the explanatory knowledge type, 44 (49.5%) descriptive ones, and 10 (11.2%) prescriptive ones. CONCLUSION: The results indicate that further research is necessary on problematic concepts and prescriptive knowledge types for child health nursing practice which will lead to expanding nursing knowledge.

8.MRI of Cauda Equina Syndrome in Ankylosing Spondylitis: A Case Report.
Ji Yang KIM ; PiI Yeob CHOI ; Young Soon SUNG ; Jae Soo KWON
Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1995;33(6):975-977
Cauda equina syndrome is a rare neurologic complication in patient with long-standing ankylosing spondylitis. Authors report a case of cauda equina syndrome. in ankylosing spondylitis. On plain radiographs, typical "bamboo spine" and fusion of sacroiliac joints were noted. MRI of the lumbar spine revealed arachnoid diverticulae which were isointense to cerebrospinal fluid on all spin echo sequences, and showed bony erosion and scalloping of posterior arches.
