Objective To investigate the characteristics and diagnostic value of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET/CT in patients with secondary malignant peripheral nerve lesions. Methods 18F-FDG PET/CT studies of 8 cases of secondary malignant peripheral nerve lesions confirmed by histopathology or follow-up were analyzed retrospectively. The maximum standardized uptake value ( SUVmax ) of infiltrating peripheral nerves and contralateral normal peripheral nerves was measured and compared with their morphological appearances on CT. Paired student t-test was performed by SPSS 10.0. Results Twelve secondary malignant peripheral nerve lesions with high 18F-FDG metabolism were found in 8 cases. On PET imaging,the lesions distributed along the neurovascular tissues or intervertebral foramina with appearances resembling those of fibre bundles,radices or nodes on PET but no density differences with the surrounding soft tissue or fat planes on CT. The SUVmax was 6.86 ± 3.87. The contralateral normal peripheral nerves showed no abnormal 18F-FDG uptake with a SUVmax of 1.10 ±0.46,which was significantly different from that of the secondary malignant peripheral nerve lesions (t = 9.231,P ＜ 0.001 ). Conclusion 18 F-FDG PET/CT may be useful in locating the secondary malignant peripheral nerve lesions and in assessing its regional infiltration.

OBJECTIVETo construct and identify the stable expression system of NIH3T3 fibroblast with eukaryotic expression vector of human transforming growth factor beta3 (pcDNA3.1 (-)/TGFbeta3). So as to investigate the proliferation of NIH3T3 fibroblasts transfected with hTGFbeta3 gene stably.

METHODSThe stable transfection of NIH3T3 fibroblasts with recombinant plasmid expressing hTGFbeta3 was established by using LipofectamineTM2000 and G418 selection. The mRNA and protein expression of TGFbeta3 were detected by the RT-PCR and Western blot method, respectively. Microscope and MTT were adopted to examine the proliferation of the stable expression system of fibroblasts with hTGFbeta3.

RESULTSAfter G418 selection, RT-PCR and Western blot analysis, 7 out of 10 cell lines transfected with pcDNA3.1 (-)/TGFbeta3 expressed with very high level of TGFbeta3, as compared with vector control transfectants that showed no expression, and compared with the other cell lines that expressed relatively low level. The stable transfection of NIH3T3 fibroblasts growth slowed down significantly (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONThe stable expression system of NIH3T3 fibroblast with hTGFbeta3 were constructed successfully. The TGFbeta3 gene could inhibit the proliferation of NIH3T3 fibroblasts in vitro.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the possible mechanism of L-arginine supplementation on the angiogenesis of burn wounds in diabetic rats.

METHODSOne hundred male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were used in the study and were randomly divided into A (scalding control, n = 25), B (scalding of the rats with diabetes, n = 25), C (L-glycine control, n = 25) and D (L-arginine supplementation, n = 25) groups. Diabetes was produced by intra-peritoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ) in B, C and D groups. The rats in C and D groups were gavaged with L-glycine and L-arginine in dose of 200 mg.kg(-1).d(-1), respectively. The glucose content of the back skin tissue was determined for five rats in each group eight weeks after STZ administration. Deep partial thickness scalding of 20% TBSA was engendered on the back in the other 80 rats. The wound area, wound healing rate, and microvascular density with CD34 immunohistochemistry staining were determined on 3rd, 7th, 14th, and 21st post scalding days (PSDs), In addition, the amount of nitric oxide (NO) released from the wound tissue and the tissue contents of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and transforming growth factor beta1 (TGF-beta1) from wound were determined at the above time points.

RESULTSCompared to those in group B, the wound healing rate in group D increased significantly since the 7th PSD [(44.10 +/- 3.50)%, P < 0.05], and the wound MVD value was increased significantly at all postburn time points. Furthermore, the levels of VEGF, NO and TGF-beta1 in the wound tissue was also increased significantly, while the glucose content in the cutaneous tissue was decreased to (1.380 +/- 0.120) mg/g.

CONCLUSIONL-arginine supplementation could be beneficial to the angiogenesis in the burn wound of the rats with diabetes, as well as to wound healing by increasing the synthesis and the release of VEGF, NO and TGF-beta1 from burn wound and by decreasing the glucose content in the cutaneous tissue of diabetic rats.

OBJECTIVETo explore the influence of L-arginine supplementation on the plasma amino acid spectrum in burn patients.

METHODSTen burn patients were randomly divided into burn control (n = 5, with compound 14 amino acid injection accounting for 2% of the total caloric value), and experimental (n = 5, with intravenous injection of L-arginine which accounted for 2% of total caloric value) groups. The intake of other nutrients for these two groups of patients was the same. The nutrient regimen was begun on the 3 PBD, with one quarter of the daily supply. On 4 and 5 PBD, one half of the daily supply was given, and from 6 to 21 PBD full supplementation was given. Venous blood samples were collected on 3, 7, 14, 21 and 28 PBD for the determination of plasma levels of amino acids. Ten normal volunteers served as normal control.

RESULTSThe plasma level of citrulline in both groups was significantly lower than normal value (P < 0.05) on 3 PBD before L-arginine supplementation. There was no obvious difference in plasma levels of ornithine and arginine in the two groups on 3 PBD compared with normal value (P > 0.05). The plasma level of ornithine, citrulline and arginine in burn control group declined on 3 PBD. The plasma level of arginine in experimental group on 14, 21 and 28 PBD were 280 +/- 121 micromol/L, 223 +/- 106 micromol/L and 110 +/- 44 micromol/L, respectively, which were significantly higher than those in burn control group (124 +/- 21 micromol/L, 59 +/- 15 micromol/L, 50 +/- 26 micromol/L). The plasma level of ornithine (30 +/- 5 micromol/L) and citrulline (162 +/- 44 micromol/L) on 21 PBD in experimental group were markedly higher than those in burn control group (8 +/- 7 micromol/L, 66 +/- 4 micromol/L, P < 0.05 or 0.01). There was no difference in the plasma levels of other amino acids at all postburn time points between the two groups (P > 0.05).

CONCLUSIONThe production process of L-arginine from citrulline was accelerated after burns. The plasma levels of L-arginine, ornithine and citrulline were increased markedly after L-arginine supplementation, while that of other amino acids was not influenced. The pharmacological effects of L-arginine may be related to the promotion of ornithine cycle.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the rule and possible mechanism of epidermal proliferation in wound edge of deep partial thickness scald injury in rat.

METHODSTwenty-four Sprague-Dawley rats inflicted with deep partial thickness scald were randomized into pre-scalding, 3 post-scalding day (PSD), 7PSD and 14PSD groups, with 6 rats in each group. Skin specimens from the wound edge were harvested for the observation of the histological characteristics of the epidermis. Cell cycles of epidermal cells were analyzed with flow cytometry. The expressions of cyclin D1, cyclin B1, cdk4 and the histone H1 kinase activity of MPF in epidermal cells were determined by Western blotting.

RESULTSAugmentation of nuclei and nucleoli was found in the epidermal cells from the wound edge in 3PSD group, while increased number of epidermal cells with obviously augmented nuclei and nucleoli were found in 14PSD group. The percentage of the cells in S phase increased in 14 PSD group. The percentage of epidermal cells in G2/M phase began to increase in 3PSD group, and that in 7PSD (4.5 +/- 0.6) and 14PSD (5.4 +/- 1.0) groups were obviously higher than that in pre-scalding group (2.9 +/- 1.1, P < 0.05). The expression of cyclin D1 increased significantly in 3PSD group. The expression of cdk4 decreased in 3PSD group, but began to increase in 14PSD group. There was no difference in the expression of cyclin B1 among groups. The MPF activity was significantly increased in 14PSD group.

CONCLUSIONThere was enhanced DNA synthesis and mitosis in epidermal cells of rats with deep partial scald during early post-scald stage, and active proliferation of epidermal cells was observed on 14PSD. The expression of cyclinD1/cdk4 complex and the activity of MPF increased since 14PSD, indicating that there was a special regulative pattern during wound healing.

Objective To summarize the clinical effects and experiences of rapid pore cranial drilling and ventricular drainage treatment on ventricular hemorrhage to evaluate the performance of rapid pore cranial drilling. Methods The clinical data of 3571 patients with ventricular hemorrhage performed the rapid pore cranial drilling and ventricular drainage treatment from 13 hospitals of Shandong province since 1977 were retrospectively analyzed and concluded; these data were compared with those in patients received traditional Dandy's device. Results In these 3571 patients, the cure rate was 27.1%, the improvement rate was 49.1%, and the death rate was 23.8%. Rapid pore drilling needed no scalp incision, no suction, no coagulation, or no special lighting, only needed puncturing the scalp, drilling through the cranium and dura matter, implanting drainage tube and stitching it up; one can manage it in about 5 minutes at bedside; while the traditional Dandy's drilling occupied 3 people in the operating room, needed more than 20 procedures, and plus the time transporting the patient, it needed at least 60 minutes or more to finfish the procedures. Rapid pore cranial drill device is superior to Dandy's cranial drill device in operating procedures, technical performance, operation conditions, personnel and time-consuming. Conclusion Rapid pore cranial drilling greatly simplifies the operating procedures, saves precious time for the seriously ill patients, reduces the mortality and improves the effectiveness of the treatment. After 35 years of clinical practice, to those patients seriously ill needed ventricular drainage treatment to rescue their lives, rapid pore cranial drilling is superior to traditional Dandy's drill technic, and is an effective method treating such diseases.

Objective To study the first locally identifcd A/HINI secondary cases outbreak in China. Methods Interview and field investigation were integrated to describe the whole process of transmission on each case and to illustrate the relationships between the onset of the disease and the retated factors. Results Two contact persons appearanced fever and whose throat swabs were tested positive to H1N1 viral nucleic acid. The two had a history of contact in a short distance with the initial imported case without any protective measure in the poor air ventilation. The patients clinical situation was slight. The incubation was between 37 hours and 57 hours. No other new case was found after intervention as isolation and antisepsis were taken. Conclusion This event was proved to be an outbreak of local A/H1N1 secondary cases caused by the imported case. The main mode of transmission was personal contact in a short distance without protection, through air and droplet. The locus with poor air ventilation was high risk place. Contact persons should be observed seven days and tested continuously.Infectivity and pathogenicity of the A/H1N1 virus were limited and appeared weakened by generations. Patient's condition was related with persistence and frequency of contact with the infection sources. Enhancing management of contact persons, health education, early diagnose, early treatment and early insulation were effective measures of controling and prenventing the spread A/H1N1.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the characteristics of ¹⁸F-FDG PET/CT images of multiple myeloma secondary extramedullary infiltration in order to improve recognition. METHODS: Twenty-one patients with multiple myeloma secondary extramedullary infiltration confirmed by pathology or follow-up from January 2012 to October 2020 in the First Affiliated Hospital of University of Science and Technology of China were retrospectively analyzed. All the patients underwent ¹⁸F-FDG PET/CT imaging before treatment, and the PET/CT characteristics of extramedullary infiltration and bone marrow were analyzed. RESULTS: Twenty-one patients included 12 males and 9 females, aged from 41 to 77 years old, with an average of 58.3±10.0; 9 cases of extramedullary infiltration involving lymph nodes; lung, stomach, spleen, and kidney were involved respectively in 2 cases; retroperitoneal, right auricle, subcutaneous nodule, and spinal meninges involvement were reported in each one case respectively. The maximum SUVmax value of extra-medullary lesions was 21.2, the minimum value was 2.1, and mean was 7.7±5.3. The maximum SUVmax value of bone marrow was 33.5, the minimum was 2.4, and mean was 6.6±3.6. There was no statistically significant difference in SUVmax value between extra-medullary lesions and bone marrow (Z=-1.195, P=0.232). CONCLUSION ¹⁸F-FDG PET/CT not only has a good diagnostic value for multiple myeloma, but also a good evaluation value for secondary extramedullary infiltration, which provides reference for clinical treatment and prognosis.

This study aims to apply a new expert system to design removable partial denture (RPD) framework. The RPD design is completed in three steps, namely, "selecting missing teeth", "selecting abutment condition", and "selecting personalized clasp". The system can help auxiliary dentists develop personalized treatment plans to reduce their clinical workload. It can also generate a dental preparation guideline for clinical preparation, which can prevent tooth preparation mistakes. By generating the standard electronic drawings of the framework design, the system can reduce the inconvenience caused by manual drawing, thereby facilitating dentist-technician communication and reducing the rate of remade.
