Objective To study the effect of red cell and plasma protein parameters on progression, prognosis and recurrence of cerebral infarction. Methods Clinical data from 105 patients with cerebral infarction were analyzed. The pa?tients were divided into four paired groups:progressive stroke group and complete stroke group, short-term favorable progno?sis group and short-term unfavorable prognosis group, long-term favorable prognosis group and long-term unfavorable prog?nosis group, relapsed cerebral infarction group and not relapsed group by different criterion. The red cell and plasma protein parameters were compared between groups. Results There were significantly higher mean corpuscular volume(fL:85.92± 4.50 vs 83.79±4.64,t=2.164,P<0.05), red cell distribution width(fL:13.50±2.45 vs 11.90±2.90,t=2.694,P<0.01), globu?lin(g/L:27.46±4.33 vs 24.79±4.03,t=3.029,P<0.01)and lower albumin(g/L:39.00±3.86 vs 42.89±4.45,t=4.242,P<0.01)in progressive stroke group than those of complete stroke group. The elevated red cell distribution width, reduced albu?min were the risk factors of progressive stroke. In the short-term unfavorable prognosis group, red cell distribution width was significantly higher than that in short-term favorable prognosis group(fL:13.90 ± 2.45 vs 12.00 ± 2.12,t=2.905,P<0.01). The red cell distribution width was positively correlated with mRS scores assessed 3 months and 18 months after cerebral in?farction(P<0.01). Conclusion Progressive stroke rate increases in cerebral infarction patients with elevated red cell distri?bution and reduced albumin;Red cell distribution width has a certain reference value for forecasting the prognosis of cere?bral infarction .

Objective To investigate whether baicalein inhibits the proliferation, cell cycle of and pseudopod formation in A431, a skin squamous cell carcinoma cell line, by suppressing the expression of ezrin protein. Methods A431 cells were grouped to be transfected with ezrin-targeting siRNA (siRNA group), treated with baicalein of 5, 10, 20, 40 μmol/L, respectively (baicalein group), or remain untreated (control group). After additional culture, wound healing assay and Transwell assay were performed to observe the migration and invasion of A431 cells, RT-PCR to detect the mRNA expression of ezrin in A431 cells, Western blot and immunoflu-orescence to measure the expression of ezrin protein and its phosphorylation. The pseudopod formation in A431 cells was observed by using scanning electron microscopy. Results After 24-hour culture, wound healing assay displayed that the percent wound closure was 13.3 ± 1.7, 7.6 ±1.6 and 5.9 ± 1.3, respectively, in A431 cells treated with baicalein of 5, 10, 20μmol/L, significantly lower than that in untreated A431 cells (16.3 ± 2.3, all P < 0.01), and the inhibition of baicalein on the migration of A431 cells was concentration-dependent. In the Transwell assay, a significant decrease was observed in the number of A431 cells per high power field permeating through the artificial basement membrane in the groups treated with baicalein of 5, 10, 20 μmol/L for 48 hours compared with the control group (46.5 ± 3.8, 34.3 ± 3.4, 25.3 ± 2.3 vs 56.3 ± 3.8, all P < 0.01), whereas no significant difference was noted between these baicalein-treated groups and siRNA-transfected group (28.3 ± 2.1, all P > 0.05). RT-PCR analysis showed that the mRNA expression of ezrin in baicalein-treated A431 cells significantly decreased compared with that in untreated cells (all P< 0.01), but showed no difference from that in siRNA group (P > 0.05). A statistical difference was also observed in the expression of ezrin and phosphorylated ezrin protein between baicalein-treated A431 cells and untreated cells (all P< 0.05), but not between 40 μmol/L baicalein-treated A431 cells and siRNA-transfected cells (P> 0.05). Furthermore, the suppression of baicalein on ezrin protein and mRNA expression was concentration dependent. The number of pseudopod per cell was significantly lower in 20 μmol/L baicalein-treated A431 cells and siRNA-transfected cells than that in untreated A431 cells (5.3 ± 1.9, 4.5 ± 2.8 vs 22.6 ± 2.8, both P < 0.01), while no significant difference was observed between the former two groups of cells (P > 0.05); the length of pseudopodia also reduced in baicalein-treated cells. Conclusions Baicalein may inhibit the proliferation and invasion of A431 cells by directly or indirectly suppressing the expression of ezrin and phosphorylated ezrin, which in turn contributes to the effect of baicalein against tumor proliferation and metastasis.

AIM: To compare the peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer ( RNFL ) thickness and peripapillary topographic map's parameters between amblyopic eyes and non -amblyopic eyes in adolescent with anisometropic amblyopia by optical coherence tomography(OCT).
METHODS: Thirty - four juveniles with anisometropic amblyopia were selected. Peripapillary RNFL thickness and peripapillary topographic map were measured by frequency domain OCT with both eyes in all participants, and the differences between amblyopic eyes and non -amblyopic eyes were compared.
RESULTS: There was no significant difference in average thickness of peripapillary RNFL and in any other region of peripapillary RNFL. The disc area in amblyopic eyes was bigger than that in non - amblyopic eyes ( t =2. 8054,P= 0. 0263). The disc area in amblyopic eyes were significantly related to the thickness of nasal RNFL and the rim area(r= 0. 7592,0. 7501;P= 0. 0289,0. 0321).
CONCLUSION: There existed some difference in peripapillary structure between amblyopic eyes and non-amblyopic eyes in adolescent with anisometropic amblyopia.

AIM:This study continuously monitors the hemodynamic changes in conscious and anesthetic rats during rapid ascent to high altitude to investigate whether there is difference between the 2 conditions and discuss the rela-ted underlying mechanism.METHODS: Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into conscious group, anesthetic group, anesthetic-5000-control ( A-5000-control) group, anesthetic-5000-aminoguanidine ( A-5000-AG) group, conscious-5000-control ( C-5000-control ) group and conscious-5000-aminoguanidine ( C-5000-AG ) group. The rats in anesthetic group and conscious group were kept in a hypobaric chamber, in which the simulated altitude was increased from 2 260 m to 5 000 m at 2 m/s, and the rats in other 4 groups were at 5 000 m.The system arterial pressure ( Psa) , central venous pressure ( CVP) , heart rate ( HR) and breathing rate ( BR) were directly and continuously displayed and digitally recorded by a high-performance data acquisition (PowerLab 16/35, AD Instruments) at 200 Hz.RESULTS: The HR and BR in the conscious rats were higher and MAP was lower than those in the anesthetic rats obviously.A significant decrease in mean arterial pressure ( MAP) in conscious and anesthetic groups was observed following the increase in the altitude levels, and the net decrease in MAP in conscious group was significantly greater.Additionally, HR in the conscious rats was sig-nificantly lower at 5 000 m than that of the initial level. The rats in C-5000-AG group and A-5000-AG group showed a sig-nificant increase in the arterial pressure after the intravenous injection of AG, a selective inhibitor of inducible nitric oxide synthase ( iNOS) , and no marked change of HR and BR was found.CONCLUSION: Blood pressure and HR decrease during rapid ascent to high altitude, while the change of BR is not obvious. The mechanisms of self-safety would be trig-gered in the early stage of hypoxia, which activates iNOS and then leads to a larger number of nitric oxide.Plentiful NO di-astolizes the vessels to improve the ventilation-perfusion mismatch and lower the blood pressure. When the altitude arise to 5 000 m, even more earlier, a decompensatory stage may occur in the body, leading to decreased HR and blood pressure further more than those in the anesthetic rats.Due to the effects of pentobarbital sodium, the depression of blood pressure requires a lag period and the net decrease in MAP is less than that in the conscious rats. Therefore, hemodynamic changes during rapid ascent to high altitude in conscious rats are more comprehensive and authentic.
