Stomach carcinoma is more common disease in korea than western contries. The reported ultrasonographicfindings of gastric carcinoma were thickening of gastric wall and “pseudokidney” sign. The auther analizedultrasonographic findings of 101 cases with gastric carcinoma who were performed ultrasonography and gastroscopyat Kyung Hee Universtiy Hospital from Oct. 1982 to Oct. 1985. The results were as followings; 1. Types of gastriccarcinoma were consisted with infiltrative type 68 cases, infiltrative type with ulceration 16 cases, polypoidtype with ulceration 1 cases, infiltrative and polypoid type 4 cases, linities plastica type 3 cases, lcerativetype 1 case and polypoid type 1 case. 2. Extent of the lesions were in body and antrum 45 cases, entire stomach 18cases, antrum 18 cases, body 12 cases, body and fundus 6 cases. 3. Ultrasonography was useful in demonstrating theextent of the tumor and the presence of materials elsewhere in abdoment.

4.Efflux Pump Inhibitor Carbonyl Cyanide-m-chlorophenylhydrazone (CCCP) Enhances Bacteriostatic Activity of Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole Against Clinical Stenotrophomonas maltophilia Isolates from Korea.

Although trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SXT) is considered the first-line therapy for Stenotrophomonas maltophilia infections, there is debate on the use of the bacteriostatic drug in serious infections, and recently, there has been an increasing occurrence of acquired resistance to TMP-SXT. In the present study, the effect of efflux pump inhibitors on the susceptibility of TMP-SXT and other antibiotics were investigated in S. maltophilia complex. The sul and/or dfrA genes were identified in only up to 27.8% of all 36 TMP-SXT-resistant S. maltophilia complex isolates. Thus, TMP-SXT resistance in S. maltophilia was not explained completely by the presence of sul and dfrA genes. Carbonyl cyanide-m-chlorophenylhydrazone (CCCP) decreased the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of TMP-SXT by eight to 128 folds in all 14 isolates. In contrast, 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP), phenyl-arginine-β-naphthylamide (PAβN), and reserpine did not reduce the MIC of TMP-SXT. In addition to TMP-SXT, slight decrease in MICs was observed for tigecycline and piperacillin/tazobactam by CCCP (by two folds) in one isolate. Although efflux pump may play a role in TMP-SXT resistance in S. maltophilia, inhibition of the efflux pump could be done by active proton pore.

Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) is a recently recognized clinicopathologic entity characterized by dilatation of pancreatic duct filled with copious mucin and papillary ductal epithelial proliferation ranging from simple hyperplasia to invasive carcinoma. The exact clinicopathologic identification of this tumor is important because of favorable prognosis contrast to that of conventional ductal adenocarcinoma. Herein we report a case of surgically resected typical IPMN. A 59-year-old man had a long history of diabetes mellitus with epigastric pain of 4 months duration. Ultrasonography and computed tomographic examination revealed cystic dilatations of main pancreatic duct in the head. The patient underwent total pancreatectomy. The gross appearance showed diffuse dilatation of main pancreatic duct associated with cystic dilatation of subbranches in the uncinate process. Histologic examination revealed diffuse papillary proliferations lined by mucinous epithelium with mild atypism within ectatic ducts. No invasive carcinoma was noted. Histochemically, the papillary epithelium contained mostly neutral and acid sialomucin.

9.Adolescents’ Experiences of Non-Suicidal Self-Injury: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis Study
Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2023;53(5):538-555
Purpose:
This qualitative study used interpretative phenomenological analysis and photovoice methods to explore the meaning of non-suicidal self-injury experienced by adolescents.
Methods:
Participants were adolescents enrolled in middle and high schools in Gyeonggi-do and Jeollabuk-do who were selected through snowball sampling. Six participants had repeatedly engaged in self-injurious behavior for over a year. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and the photovoice method between November 2020 and July 2021. The collected data were analyzed using six steps of interpretative phenomenological analysis.
Results:
The results yielded 5 main themes and 18 subthemes. The main themes were ‘a silent cry to an indifferent world’, ‘a heartache that one endures with scars’, ‘an inescapable cycle’, ‘filling the space in one’s heart’, and ‘healing the wounds’. The study findings revealed that the self-injurious behavior of adolescents began as a consequence of feeling lost and struggling with conflicts at home and school, which helped them relieve tension and pain. Nonetheless, inflicting self-injury only left signs of regret and remorse, which became a trace that the participants wanted to hide. However, the wounds healed after receiving attention and support from others. They were determined to stop engaging in repeated self-injurious behaviors and made efforts to do so.
Conclusion
This study can be used as a basis for the development of educational programs to prevent non-suicidal self-injury in adolescents. Additionally, it can inform nursing interventions that focus on building support systems to help adolescents who attempt self-injury.
10.Effects of Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction Program on Perceived Stress, Internalized Stigma, and Psychological Well-being in Psychiatric Inpatients
Journal of Korean Academy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing 2023;32(3):259-269
Purpose:
The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of a mindfulness-based stress reduction program on the perceived stress, internalized stigma, and psychological well-being of psychiatric inpatients.
Methods:
A non-equivalent control group study with a pretest-posttest design was used. Participants were obtained from the closed wards of a psychiatric hospital in K-city. A total of 45 people were included in this study, 22 in the experimental group and 23 in the control group. The pre, post, and follow-up scores of both the experimental and control groups were obtained using the Korea Perceived Stress Scale, the Korea Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness Scale, and the Korea Psychological Well-Being Scale to validate the effectiveness of the program. A 45 minute program was performed twice weekly for three weeks.
Results:
There was a statistically significant reduction in perceived stress (F=6.92, p=.002) and internalized stigma (F=22.76, p<.001), and a significant improvement in psychological well-being (F=38.34, p<.001) in the experimental group.
Conclusion
A mindfulness-based stress reduction program could be implemented as an intervention to reduce perceived stress and internalized stigma and enhance psychological well-being in psychiatric inpatients.
