3.Effects of a Breast Feeding Promotion Program for Working Women.
Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2008;38(6):843-852
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to measure the effects of a breast feeding promotion program for working women on breast feeding continuation, mother-infant attachment, and maternal sensitivity. METHODS: The design of this study is nonequivalent control group design with repeated measures. RESULTS: There were significant differences in breast feeding continuation between two groups at each time point except 2 days and 1 week after delivery. The scores of mother-infant attachment and maternal sensitivity of experimental group were higher than those of the control group, but there were no significant differences between two groups. CONCLUSION: Although some modifications in contents and administration will be required to increase the effectiveness of the program, breast feeding promotion program for working women can be an effective nursing intervention which can facilitate breast feeding continuation and mother-infant relationships.

This is a case report of a cystic hygroma with polycystic kidney in a fetus which was suspected by ultrasonography and was confirmed by autopsy. Recently, we have experienced this case in 25-year old woman repeatedly and we report that with a brief review of relevant literature.

Journal of the Korean Pediatric Society 1993;36(3):338-346
Obesity has been implicated as a significant risk factor for multiple medical condition including hypertention, glucose intolerance, hyperlipidemia, hyperinsulinemia and fatty liver. Furthermore, obesity in childhood is believed to be a reliable predictor of a similar condition in adulthood. During the recent years, there has been a rapid rise in the incidence of childhood obesity in Korea due to increased dietary intake rich in caloric content. This study was undertaken to investigate the epidemiology and potential health complications of obesity observed in elmentary school students. A total of 3,103 children (1630 boys and 1,473 girls), ages ranging from 6 to 12, were studied with personal interview, physical examination, and laboratory evaluation. The results were as follows: 1) The prevalence of obesity was 13.44% with approximately equal distribution among boys (14.42%) and girls (12.36%). 2) The prevalence of childhood obesity in Seoul was significantly higher (18.62%) than that in Suwon (7.85%) and in Hongchon (6.02%). 3) A higher incidence of hypertension was dectected in obese subjects and this was more obvious in girls. 4) Hyperlipidemia and elevated Atherogenic Index were more frequently observed in obese group. 5) although fasting blood glucose levels were similar in both groups. AST and ALT abnormalities were much more prevalent in obese group. It is concluded that hypertension and other metabolic abnormalities are much more frequently observed in obese children and that our effects should be focused on the earliest dection, prevention and management of childhood obesity.

Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2003;33(1):26-33
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among variables of somatic attribution, chronic pain, depression and chronic fatigue in the elderly. METHODS: Empirical data for testing hypothetical models was collected from 311 people over 65 years old in a community settings in Seoul, Korea in June and July, 2000. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and correlational analysis using pc-SAS program. The Linear Structural Modeling(LISREL) 8.0 program was used to find the best fit model which explained causal relationship of variables. RESULT: According to Accepted model, the relation of variables is that the somatic attribution is the influencing variable to chronic pain and depression and chronic pain and depression is the influencing variable to chronic fatigue. CONCLUSION: The findings of this study give useful information to construct intervention program relating chronic pain, depression and chronic fatigue for the elderly.

Cytologic findings of pleural effusion in three cases of rhabdomyosarcoma are reported. Case 1 was a pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma which had devoped at the chest wall of an elderly male patient and caused pleural effusion. The cytologic features were consistent with pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma, that was, showing loose clusters, cellular pleomorphism, and abundant finely vesicular cytoplasm. Cases 2 and 3 were embryonal rhabdomyosarcomas in young adults. Primary site was the oral cavity in case 1, but unknown in case 2 and case 3. The effusion cytology was similar in these cases. Clustered or isolated small round cells with hyperchromatic nuclei and scanty cytoplasm were smeared. The cohesiveness of tumor cells was weak and the cells did not show linear arrangement or nuclear molding. Effusion cytology in a sarcoma patient would be diagnostic when the primary site and the type of sarcoma were already known.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1997;38(3):504-510
Wilson's disease is an inborn error of copper metabolism which may be associated with hepatic cirrhosis and progressive degeneration of the central nervous system. The most common ophthalmologic finding in Wilson's disease is the Kayser-Fleischer ring. Other much less common physical signs include neurologic signs, endocrinologic abnormality. The Kayser-Fleischer ring occurs in the corneal periphery and is usually yellow- brown color. The Kayser-Fleischer ring.copper deposition at the level of the posteior position of Descemet's membran. The authours have recently experienced two cases of wilson's disease. One case. a 20-year-old girl, has Kayser-Fleischer rings in both eyes, amenorrhea, chronic active hepatitis and the other case, a 21-years-old girl, has dense yellow-green colored Kayser-Fleischer rings in both eyes, palilalia, and family relationship. Both cases have been treated with D-penicillaine and low copper diet. After treatment, clinical manifestation have been improved markedly at former case and the other cae is steady stage, but the Kayse-Fleischer rings have not disappeared yet in both cases.
