International Journal of Surgery 2008;35(11):760-763
Terapeutic options used to repair tendon and ligament injury consist of autografis, allografts and synthetic prostheses.Tendon and ligament of tissue engineering have their unique advantages as alternative therapy.Choosing the proper scaffold materials is important for successfully constructing tissue engineering tendon and ligament,so in this review we focus on natural and artificial scaffold materials used in tissue engineering of tendon and ligament in recent years.

Objective To evaluate the results and toxic effects in three dimensional radiotherapy (3DCRT)with late course accelerated hyper-fractionation for advanced esophageal carcinoma. Methods From December 2001 to December 2003,115 patients were randomly divided into two groups:in 3DCRT group,55 patients were given late course accelerated hyper-fractionation radiotherapy to a total close of 66 Gy (2.0 Gy per fraction,5 times per week;to a dose of 36 Gy were changed into 1.5 Gy/f,2 f/d).In CF group,60 patients were given late course accelerated hyper-fractionation radiotherapy to a total dose of 66 Gy.Results The 1-, 2-,3-,4-year survival rates in 3DCRT group were 63.6 %, 50.9 %, 38.2 %, 30.9 % compared to 58.3 %, 38.3 %,33.3 %,23.3 % in CF group(X~2=4.44,P=0.031),and local control rates in 1-,2-,3-,and 4- years in 3DCRT group were 72.7 %,58.1%,47.2 % and 36.3 %,compared to 53.3 %,40 %,28.3 %,and 20 %(X~2=5.33,P=0.013)in CF group. However,in the 3DCRT group, the incidence of acute esophagitis was similar to CF group; hematogenous toxic and acute bronchitis were similar between the two groups. Late course lung injury in CF group was higher than that in 3DCRT group. Conclusion 3DCRT is able to improve the local control rate and survival rate, and unable to improve acute and late radiation toxie effects.

Objective To explore the factors related with the quality of life in the elderly patients with knee osteoarthritis. Methods 92elderly patients with knee osteoarthritis were tested with short-form 36 health survey scale (SF-36), visual analogue pain scale (VAS), 5times' movement of sit-to-stand, 10 m walking speed, 3 m timed-up and walking test. At the same time, the radiological grades of knees andthe total amount of chronic diseases were collected. Results The VAS of knee pain, the course of knee osteoarthritis, the total amount ofchronic diseases and 10-m walking speed were related with SF-36 score (P<0.01). Conclusion Knee pain, course of knee osteoarthritis, totalamount of chronic diseases and walking ability are related with the quality of life in the elderly patients with knee osteoarthritis, especiallyfor knee pain.

With the development of functional genomics, high throughput analysis of genes’ function has been the mainstream of research, and exogenous gene's over expression via Agrobacterium-mediated transformation is the most commonly used method in gene functional analysis. The versatile plant expression vector cassette named pBHT-5 was constructed by the method of site-specific mutagenesis based on pBI121. First of all, the restriction enzyme SfiI recognition site in trfA gene (X00713) which was relevant to plasmid replication and stability was replaced without changing its amino acid composition. And then the SfiIA,SfiIB sites were added between promoter CaMV35s and terminator NOS. The versatile plant expression vector cassette can be directly used to construct plant expression vector containing the full-length genes cloned by Clontech SMARTTM technology, which will raise the efficiency of vector construction. The result will provide basis of new genes’ high throughput screening and functional analysis, then get the new genes functioning in plant osmotic stress resistance.

AIM: To further investagate the mechanism of thrombus formation and develop a new remedy of anti-thrombus formation. METHODS: The amplified DNA fragment of vWF-A1 domain was inserted into expression vector with 6?his taq (pQE-31), the recombinant expression vect or was transformed into E coli (strain M15) and induced by IPTG. The recombinant fragment, comprising residues 449-728 of mature vWF subunit, designate rvWF-A1. It was purified by Ni-NTA agarose column and renatured by Tris buffer containin g GSH and GSSG. FACS and platelet aggregometer were employed to analyse the rvWF -A1 function of binding to platelet glycoprotein Ib and inhibiting ristocetin-in duced platelet aggregation. RESULTS: The rvWF-A1 was expressed successfully in E coli, comin g up to 30% of total bacterial protein. Its purify was over 95% through Ni-NTA a garose. It was identified to have ability to bind to GPIb, its biologic activity to inhibit ristocetin-induced platelet aggregation was observed, and the inhibi tive rate was 84 7%. CONCLUSION: The above results indicated that high-level expressi on of rvWF-A1 was successfully achieved in E coli and rvWF-A1 may be an effectiv e antithromotic agent in preventing thrombus formation.

Objective To compare the outcomes of homeopathic bidirectional-traction reduction device and traction table in surgical treatment of femoral intertrochanteric fractures. Methods A retrospective case control study was made on 94 cases of femoral intertrochanteric fractures treated from July 2015 to December 2015.There were 26 males and 68 females, aged 60-75 years.According to the Evans classification, the fractures were type Ⅱ in 24 cases, type Ⅲ in 32 and type Ⅳ in 38.Fifty-seven cases sustained chronic diseases.According to the random number table, the subjects were assigned to receive homeopathic bidirectional-traction reduction (homeopathic reduction group,48 cases) and traction table reduction (control group,46 cases). All fractures were fixed with proximal femoral nail antirotation.Operation time, reduction time, tluoroscopy time, blood loss and rate of closed reduced cases were recorded.Fracture union and rotation of the affected femur to the tibia were detected after operation.Functional outcome was evaluated using the Harris score at the final follow-up.Results All fractures were reduced closely in homeopathic reduction group, while 15 fractures in control group were reduced via a small-incision anterior approach.Operation time, reduction time and fluoroscopy time in homeopathic reduction group were (62.9 ± 12.1) min,(6.8 ± 1.5) min and (11.3 ± 5.6) s respectively, significantly less than the corresponding data in control group (all P < 0.05).One month after operation, rotation of the affected femur to the tibia was (2.8 ± 1.2) ° in homeopathic reduction group, significantly less than that in control group [(11.5 ± 4.7) °] (P < 0.05).Bone union was observed in all cases. At the final follow-up,Harris hip score was (92.6 ± 7.6)points in homeopathic reduction group, significantly higher than that in control group [(87.3 ± 6.5) points] (P < 0.05).Conclusion For the elderly patients with intertrochanteric fractures, homeopathic bidirectional-traction device has advantages of high rate of closed reduction, shorter operation time, less radiological exposure and satisfactory function recovery of the affected hip joint.

Effect of organic acids on the synthesis of 1,3 propanediol was studied. The adsorption of organic acids from glycerol fermentation liquor by ion-exchange resins was investigated. The results showed that organic acid and 1,3 propanediol production was in negative relationship. The static adsorption showed that ion-exchange resin 005 had the best adsorption abilities of the organic acids in the glycerol fermentation liquor. It was showed that the yield of 1,3propanediol increased by 166% after the extraction of organic acids from glycerol fermentation liquor and the convertion rate increased by 34%.
