PURPOSE: The purpose of the study was to explore factors influencing turnover intention of new graduate nurses according to length of services. METHODS: From May to July, 2017, a survey was conducted among 220 nurses working in four hospitals. Inclusion criteria were new graduate nurses who had careers of less than 16 months. Data were collected on organizational socialization, support in work place, job stress, and turnover intention. RESULTS: Satisfaction with current work department, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and job stress were significant factors influencing turnover intention of new nurses with less than six months experience. However, in case of nurses with seven to 15 months experience, only organizational commitment influenced turnover intention. CONCLUSIONS: These findings indicate that the factors influencing turnover intention are different according to the length of time the new graduate nurses have worked. To reduce the turnover intention of new nurses, it is necessary to differentiate human resource management approaches according to length of employment. The study results could be useful evidence for developing strategies to reduce turnover in new nurses.

Developmental venous anomalies are congenital anomalies of the intracranial venous drainage and clinically asymptomatic. Cavernous hemangiomas are vascular malformations composed of dilated vascular channels lined with a single layer of endothelial cells without any intervening normal neural tissue. Although, cavernous hemangioma may be clinically silent, but frequently cause variable neurologic manifestations; intracranial hemorrhage, seizures, and focal neurologic deficits. Frequent association of these two diseases has already been reported and it has been suggested that cavernous hemangiomas not the developmental venous anomalies that cause the acute clinical symptoms. A 4 year old girl with sudden onset of headache, vomiting, gait disturbance and signs of unilateral cerebellar dysfunction 2 days before admission showed a 2.5x2.5cm sized hematoma with heterogenous signal intensity both in CT and MRI in the left cerebellar hemisphere. Four-vessel cerebral angiography revealed characteristic findings of developmental venous anomalies. Pathologic findings of the surgically removed hematoma disclosed typical feature of cavernous hemangioma. Based on the findings in this case and review of the literatures, we concluded that the possibility of other diseases such as cavernous hemangiomas must be considered in patients who has intracranial hemorrhage due to the developmental venous anomalies.

The serum value of immunoglobulin E (IgE) in 47 cases of atopic dermatitis and 43 cases of urticaria were determined by Phadebas PRIST(R) method in department of dermatology at National Medical Center, from Jan., 1982 to Sep., 1982. The results were as follow; 1. The mea,n IgE value in atopic dermatitis was significantly higher (408+/-l43 u/ml) than that of normal subjects (p>0.01). 2. The mean value of IgE in urticaria (310+/-299 u/ml) was not significantly higher than tha,t of normal subjects (p>0.05). 3. The rnean value of IgE in severely expanded atopic dermatitis (664+/-404 u/ml) was significantly increased than that of normal subjects (p>0.01) 4. The mean value of IgE in 7 cases of atopic dermatitis with allergic respiratory diseases (817+/-233 u/ml) was significantly elevated (p>0.01). 5. No close correlation was seen between IgE value and eosinophilia. 6. IgE in 2 cases of the urticaria infested with PW, CS were extended over 1000u/ml.

Purpose: This study aimed to examine the association of COVID-19 vaccine attitudes and cognitions of COVID-19-related stigma with vaccine hesitancy among college students. Methods: This cross-sectional study using a web-based survey was conducted with 242 college students in April 2021 before Korea’s national COVID-19 vaccination program had begun. Data were analyzed using multinominal logistic regression analyses. Results: Of the participants who were unsure of their intention to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, 66.0% had less experience with flu vaccinations and were 1.43 times more likely to report a mistrust of vaccine benefits (OR=1.43, CI=1.22, 1.68). Those with no intention of receiving the vaccine were 25.0% less likely to be aware of COVID-19 stigma (OR=0.75, CI=0.65, 0.86), 2.08 times more likely to mistrust vaccine benefits (OR=2.08, CI=1.62, 2.68), and 1.53 times more likely to worry about an unforeseen future negative side effects from vaccination (OR=1.53. CI=1.16, 2.00). Conclusion Nurses could play an important role in educating college students about vaccination benefits, including reviewing vaccines’ side effects with evidence, to reduce vaccine hesitancy. College students who have less empathy for others regarding COVID-19 infection might have higher COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy. Accordingly, explaining to students the necessity of their vaccination in preventing transmission to the surrounding community and vulnerable populations is critical.

A 68-year-old man was refered for evaluation and treatment of advanced esophageal cancer. He complained of substernal dysphagia for solid and liquid foods. He did not remember episodes about ingesting something that correlated with symptoms. The single-contrast esophagogram revealed subtotal obstruction of the cervical esophagus with barium outlining the polypoid-filling defect irregularly. After 18 hours later, the patient underwent endoscopic examination and at the direct esophagoscopic finding, the food materials mainly consisted of packed rice was filled in the cervical esophagus. After saline irrigation, a fish bone, which was about 50X9 mm, and looked like a knife was lodged just distal to the impacted food materials. The fish bone was removed successfully from the esophagus. The patient experienced dramatic relief of symptoms shortly after procedure.
