Soft denture liners or conditioners may be valuable therapeutic materials. The life of these liners is short and varies, but it can be extended by the use of a mono-poly(polymethyl methacrylate coating material). This study determined whether coating three temporary soft denture liners with mono-poly affected the resiliency of soft liners, and evaluated the ability of mono-poly to prevent water absorption and alcohol loss from the underlying soft liners. 20x12mm cylindrical specimens of Coe-Soft, Soft-Liner, Coe-Comfort soft lining materials were made and divided into two groups of mono-poly uncoated(control) and mono-poly coated specimens. Specimens were immersed in water and compressed on an instron universal testing machine and weighted at initial, 24 hours, 1 week, 2 weeks, and 4 weeks. resiliency was determined by measuring the energy absorbed by the soft liners when stressed to a specific yield point. Mono-poly coating significantly increased the resiliency of the Soft-Liner, but had no effect on the other soft liners. Among the 3 soft liners, Soft-Liner showed the hightest resiliency and modulus of elasticity. The weight loss in Soft-Liner was the least among the 3 liners, and the weight loss in Coe-Soft was decreased by monopoly coating.

We evaluated the effects of guanosine 5′-monophosphate (GMP)-chelated calcium and iron (CaFe-GMP) on health and egg quality in layers experimentally infected with Salmonella Gallinarum. In this study, a CaFe-GMP feed additive was added to a commercial layer feed and fed to layers over a four-week period. All were inoculated with Salmonella Gallinarum. Body weight, mortality, clinical symptoms, and poultry production including feed intake, egg production, egg loss, and feed conversion rate were observed, and Salmonella Gallinarum was re-isolated from the liver, spleen, and cecum of the layers. All tested internal organs for the CaFe-GMP additive group exhibited significantly lower re-isolation numbers of Salmonella Gallinarum and less severe pathological changes than those in the control group, indicating that the CaFe-GMP feed supplement induced bacterial clearance and increased resistance to Salmonella Gallinarum. Additionally, due to the inhibitory action of CaFe-GMP on the growth of Salmonella Gallinarum, the CaFe-GMP additive group exhibited better egg production, including a higher laying rate and fewer broken eggs. The results suggest that a 0.16% CaFe-GMP additive may help prevent salmonellosis in the poultry industry.

Journal of Periodontal & Implant Science 2020;50(2):121-131
Purpose:
Dental implant-associated medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw has been frequently reported in patients administered bisphosphonates (BPs) to prevent osteoporosis. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of intermittent administration of parathyroid hormone (PTH) on peri-implant bone in the maxillae of ovariectomized rats systemically administered BPs.
Methods:
Thirty 8-week-old female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 3 groups. The OVX-ZP group included ovariectomized rats administered 60 μg/kg of zoledronate once a week for 6 weeks and 30 μg/kg PTH after implant installation. The OVX-Z group included ovariectomized rats administered 60 μg/kg of zoledronate once a week for 6 weeks and saline after implant installation, and the control group included rats that underwent a sham operation and were then administered saline. Rats were sacrificed 4 weeks after implant placement for histomorphometric and micro-computed tomography (CT) analyses.
Results:
The average bone area percentage was greater in the OVX-ZP group than in the OVX-Z group (53.4%±4.0% vs. 28.9%±9.5%, P=0.01). The bone-to-implant contact ratio was 50.8%±1.4% in the OVX-ZP group and 16.9%±2.4% in the OVX-Z group (P=0.012). The average bone volume ratio as shown on micro-CT was 31.3%±19.8% in the OVX-ZP group and 19.4%±9.3% in the OVX-Z group (P=0.045). The OVX-ZP and OVX-Z groups displayed similar trabecular thickness (0.06±0.004 mm vs. 0.06±0.002 mm) (P>0.05) and trabecular separation (0.21±0.02 mm vs. 0.29±0.13 mm) (P>0.05). However, the number of trabeculae in the OVX-ZP group was significantly higher than that in the OVX-Z group (4.3±1.33/mm3 vs. 2.2±0.19/mm3) (P=0.024).
Conclusions
The present findings indicate that intermittently-administered PTH can promote peri-implant bone formation and suggest that PTH administration may aid in effective treatment for medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw after dental implantation.

Despite the improved accuracy and increasing use of prenatal ultrasonography, fetal cholelithiasis is a rarely detected disease, and its natural history and clinical significance are not yet well defined. Many maternal and neonatal risk factors are associated with fetal cholelithiasis. Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy could be a risk factor for fetal cholelithiasis, but no case reports in previous literatures have demonstrated this relationship. We present a case of fetal cholelithiasis in the late third trimester of pregnancy that was related to intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy, along with a brief review of associated literatures.

Cerebral air embolism, the entry of air into the cerebral artery, is an iatrogenic clinical problem in most cases, which may result in seizure, severe neurologic deficits and even death. Although cerebral air embolism may result from almost all procedures that are performed in clinical specialties, occurrence following a gastroscopy is very rare. We report a patient who developed cerebral air embolism following a gastroscopy.

The diagnosis of HELLP syndrome associated with preeclampsia-eclampsia during pregnancy uses three test results, including hemolysis, elevated liver enzyme, low platelets and their related clinical symptoms. Liver rupture is a life-threatening and rare complication related to HELLP syndrome. Early diagnosis and rapid treatment are very important for protecting the life of the patient and the fetus. We are reporting an anesthetic experience a sudden-onset suspicious HELLP syndrome with an intraperitoneal hemorrhage caused by a rapidly progressed liver rupture in a severe preeclampsia patient without any abnormalities during gestation.

Clinical Pediatric Hematology-Oncology 2014;21(2):157-162
Castleman disease (CD) is a disorder with distinct lymphoid hyperplasia of unknown origin, and it is rare in children. There are two major forms of CD: unicentric (localized) and multicentric. Pathologically, it can be categorized into three subtypes: hyaline- vascular, plasma cell, and mixed types. We experienced a 15-year-old boy with histopathologically proven mediastinal CD of the plasma cell type. He was referred to our hospital because of mediastinal widening in a chest x-ray found by chance. Surgery was performed to resect two right paratracheal masses and subtotal excision was done. As complete surgical resection was not possible, the patient subsequently received three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (total 5,400 cGy in 27 fractions). The size of the mass decreased, and his clinical symptoms regressed without any side effects from radiotherapy. Here we report a case of unicentric plasma cell type CD, treated with radiotherapy due to incomplete surgical resection.

Journal of Menopausal Medicine 2021;27(1):42-45
Uterine fibroid, or leiomyoma, is a common benign neoplasm in women, but serious complications are rarely reported. We present the case of a 48-year-old woman with acute onset of abdominal pain. She was hemodynamically unstable, and computed tomography revealed abundant fluid collection in the peritoneal cavity, suggesting hemoperitoneum. During emergency exploratory laparotomy, the subserosal vein overlying a uterine fibroid was identified as the source of bleeding. Hemostasis was accomplished with fibroid excision. Spontaneous hemorrhage originating from a uterine fibroid is extremely rare, but may lead to life-threatening conditions. Therefore, in female patients with acute abdominal pain and hemoperitoneum, uterine fibroid may be a potential etiology and emergency exploratory laparotomy should be considered.
