Pigmented contact dermatitis, firstly reported by Dr. Osmudsen in 1970, is a disease result from recurrent contact dermatitis due to hypersensitivity to cosmetic companents, which produces secondary bizarre dark brown hyperpigmentation. Histological examination of this condition reveals liquefaction degeneration of the basal cells of the epidermis and melanophages in the upper dermis. However, this entity has not been reported in the Korean literature until now. We report three cases of pigmented contact dermatitis which were diagnosed by the histological examinations and the patch tests.

The formation of spontaneous rosettes between human lymphocytes and sheep erythro ytes under suitable conditions is a constant feature of T-lymphocytes. Recently. It has been demonstrated in the mouse, rat, guinea pig and in man that a certain proportion of peripheral blood lymphocytes has the property to bind autolognus erythrocytes in vitro. These lymphocytes are called auiologous rosette forming cells(ARFC). Although there are several reports on human ARFC. the results are not in accordance. The present study was undertaken to demonstrate the autologous rosette forming property of human peripheral blood lymphocytes, and to enumerate the percentage of ARFC in different sex and age guoups. Fifty healthy persons entered this study between Martch and September. 1980. at the Department of Dermatolgy, Seoul National Universty Hospital. The method of quantitation of AREC was s sight modification of that of Lambermont et al(1977). The results were as follows.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify Radiosensitivity of proteins in tissues with different radiosensitivity. MATERIALS AND METHODS: C3H/HeJ mice were exposed to 10 Gy. The mice were sacrifiud 8 hrs after radiation. Their spleen and liver tissues were collected and analyzed histologicaly for apoptosis. The expressions of radiosusceptibility protein were analyzed by 2-dimensional electrophoresis and matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry. RESULTS: The peak of apoptosis levels were 35.3+/-1.7% in spleen and 0.6+/-0.2% in liver at 8 hrs after radiation. Liver, radioresistant tissues, showed that the levels of ROS metabolism related to proteins such as cytochromm c, glutathione S transferase, NADH dehydrogenase, riken cDNA and peroxiredoxin VI increased after radiation. The expression of cytochrome c increased significantly in spleen and liver tissues after radiation. In spleen, radiosensitivity tissue, the identified proteins showed a significantly quantitative alteration following radiation. It was categorized as signal transduction, apoptosis, cytokine, Ca signal related protein, stress-related protein, cytoskeletal regulation, ROS metabolism, and others. CONCLUSION: Differences of radiation-induced apoptosis by tissues specifted were coupled with the induction of related radiosensitivity and radioresistant proteins. The result suggests that apoptosis relate protein and redox proteins play important roles in this radiosusceptibility.

PURPOSE: It is important to know for transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) affecting the serum prostate specific antigen (PSA) value how long one should wait before being able to ~ obtain an accurate and meaningful serum PSA level. We evaluated the change of serum PSA concentration in patients with benign prostate hypertrophy(BPH) before and after TURP in association with time course and resected prostatic weight. MATERIALS AND METHOD: The effect of TURP was examined in 27 patients with BPH (mean age: 64 years; range: 55-79 years). The serum PSA levels were measured serially (before and 1, 3, 5, 7, 14, 30, 60, 90 days after TURP) by Abott IMX assay. RESULTS: The level of serum PSA appeared to be consistent with prostatic volume by transrectal ultrasonography(TRUS) and was elevated by about 0.16 ng/mL for each gram of hyperplastic tissue present (p=0.375, p=0.058). TURP caused an immediate elevation in the serum PSA concentration, with a median increase of 19 ng/mL (p=0.0001). The larger resected group showed a dramatic and statistically significant PSA rise immediately after TURP than the smaller resected group (p=0.023). From the 15 post-operative day, the PSA concentrations continued slightly lower than that of pre-operative day (p=0.0001), and was still decreased on 30 days (p=0.0001). The median time to return to a baseline level of PSA was 30 days (range: 1460 days) after TURP. CONCLUSION: These findings indicate that TURP caused an immediate increase in the serum PSA level, which generally return to stable, baseline level within 30 days. However, because in some patients the serum PSA still remained elevated than upper normal limit after 30 days, it is recommended that a serum PSA determination should be obtained for at least 60 days after TURP.

PURPOSE: This study was designed to identify whether alcohol use predicts marital stability and to investigate the mediating effects of marital communication and social support in international married Korean men who lived in a rural area. METHODS: The participants were 200 of the international married men. The data were collected during June, 2010. The instruments were Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT), Marital Instability (MI), Marital Communication (MC), Social Support (SS). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. RESULTS: The mean score for AUDIT was 9.6, and alcohol use was negatively correlated with marital stability, marital communication and social support. We also found that marital communication fully mediated the association between alcohol use and marital stability, while social support did not mediate this association. CONCLUSION: The outcomes of this study indicates a need to develop intervention strategies and education programs that include emphasis on moderate drinking and communication skills for couples in international marriages.

PURPOSE: This study was to examine the degree of prenatal emotional status, preparation for delivery, postpartum social support, and postpartum blues and to investigate the relationship of the above variables in postpartum women. METHOD: The subjects were 131 postpartum women. Selection criteria were women who were 2 to 8 weeks post delivery. After Informed consent was obtained, they were asked to fill out a self-administered questionnaire. The instrument was a Postnatal Depression and Anxiety check list. RESULT: The mean age of the subjects was 29.3 years, and 63.4% of subjects delivered their children by vaginal birth. 18.3 percent had felt depressed during their pregnancy. The mean score of the postpartum blues was 19.2. 61.8 percent of the subjects had postpartum blues and 8.4 percent experienced postpartum depression. Monthly income was negatively correlated to postpartum blues (r=-.189, p< .05), but the emotional status during pregnancy had a significant and positive relationship. However, preparation for delivery had no significant correlation with postpartum blues. While husband support and social support had a tendency to have a negative correlation. CONCLUSION: Further research is needed to identify the factors that affect the emotional status during pregnancy with various scales. Also, intervention programs to increase emotional support for pregnancy and husband support are needed.

PURPOSE: A wide variety of surgical materials have been used for blepharoptosis such as catgut, silicone, 4-0 nylon polyfilament cable-type ophthalmic suture (Supramid(R)), autogenous tendon (palmaris longus),banked sclera, dura mater, fascia lata, and temporalis fascia. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of frontalis suspensory surgery with temporalis fascia. METHODS: The authors studied 91 frontalis slings (71 patients) performed from 1993 to 1999 at our hospital for repair of blepharoptosis. Results with temporalis fascia (group A) as the suspensory material were compared to those with autogenous (group B) and preserved (group C) fascia lata. RESULTS: The success rates of group A (31 lids 21 patients), group B (28 lids 24 patients), group C (32lids 26 patients) were 80.6%, 75%, 78.1% respectively. But there was no statistically significant difference in each groups (P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS: We concluded that temporalis fascia for frontalis sling could be used as suspensory material successfully. Moreover, long term and further evaluations must be considered.
