6.Understanding a Mutually Destructive Relationship Between Individuals With Borderline Personality Disorder and Their Favorite Person

Psychiatry Investigation 2022;19(12):1069-1077
Objective:
Individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD) commonly have a favorite person (FP), whom they are heavily emotionally attached to and dependent on. This study aims to identify and illustrate the patterns of destructive FP relationships based on actual experiences described by those with BPD.
Methods:
A data mining process was conducted using raw data collected from online communities, such as blogs and social networks. An in-depth review of the information to better understand the natural course of the FP relationship was also conducted.
Results:
Individuals with BPD form an intense and insecure attachment toward their FP, from which they enormously suffer. FPs can be their friends, romantic or life partners, or family members. As their feelings go beyond their control, being increasingly obsessed with their FP, they make their FP gradually lose hope in continuing the relationship and want to quit trying to fulfill their needs. The relationship finally ends when the FP stops being responsible for meeting their expectations and eventually drifts away.
Conclusion
This study suggests that certain FPs, distinctively named Teddy Bear Person, may behave in a particular manner to increase the likelihood of the FP relationship becoming more destructive. Moreover, the rejection sensitivity model should be discussed to understand their dysfunctional interaction.

PURPOSE: The effect of PTK inhibitors (herbimycin A and genistein) on the induction of radiation-induce d apoptosis in Ph-positive K562 leukemia cell line was investigated. MATERIALS AND METHODS: K562 cells in exponential growth phase were irradiated with a linear accelerator at room temperature. For 6 MV X-ray irradiation and drug treatment, cultures were initiated at 2x10' cells/mL. The cells were irradiated with 10 Gy. Stock solutions of herbimycin A and genistein were prepared in dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO). After incubation at 37C for 0-48 h, the extent of apoptosis was determined using agarose gel electrophoresis and TUNEL assay. The progression of cells throughth the cel l cycle after irradiation and drug treatment was also determined with flow cytometry. Western blot analysis was used to monitor bcl-2, bcl-X and bax protein levels. RESULTS: Treatment with 10 Gy X-irradiation did not result in the induction of apoptosis. The HMA alone (500 nM) also failed to induce apoptosis. By contrast, incubation of K562 cells with HMA after irradiation resulted in a substantial induction of nuclear condensation and fragmentation by agarose gel electro-phoresis and TUNEL assay. Genistein failed to enhance the ability of X-irradiation to induce DN A fragmentation. Enhancement of apoptosis by H MA was not attributable to downregulation of the bcl-2 or bcl-X anti-apoptotic proteins. When the cells were irradiated and maintained with HMA, the percentage cf cells in G2/M phase decreased to 30-40% at 48 h. On the other hand, cells exposed to 10 Gy X-irradiation alone or maintained with genistein did not show marked cell cycle redistribution. CONCLUSION: We have shown that nanomolar concentrations of the PTK inhibitor HMA synergize with X-irradiation in inducing the apoptosis in Ph (+) K562 leukemia cell line. While, genistein, a PTK inhibitor which is not selective for p2 10""'' failed to enhance the radiation induced apoptosis in K562 cells. It is unlikely that the ability of HMA to enhance apoptosis in K562 cells is attributable to bcl-2 family. It is plausible that the relationship between cell cycle delays and cell death is essential for drug development based on molecular targeting designed to modify radiation-induced apoptosis.

The Korean Journal of Hepatology 2009;15(2):209-215
A 63-year-old male experienced sudden diplopia after 9 weeks of administration of pegylated interferon (IFN) alpha-2b and ribavirin for chronic hepatitis C (CHC). Ophthalmologic examinations showed ptosis on the right upper lid and restricted right eye movement without any other neurological signs. A brain imaging study and repetitive nerve stimulation test indicated no abnormality. The acetylcholine receptor antibody titer and response to acetylcholinesterase inhibitors were negative, and the results of thyroid function tests were normal. The patient's ophthalmological symptoms improved rapidly 3 weeks after discontinuation of pegylated IFN alpha-2b and ribavirin. The ocular myasthenia associated with combination therapy of pegylated IFN alpha-2b and ribavirin for CHC is very rarely reported; therefore, we present this case with a review of the various eye complications of IFN therapy.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1998;39(6):1227-1232
PURPOSE: To evaluate the prevalence of abnormalities seen on sonography and renal scintigraphy, according tothe grade of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) on in voiding cystourethrography (VCUG). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Onehundred and forty-nine patients (age range : 1 months - 10 years) with urinary tract infection underwentsonography, VCUG, and renal scans, and 32 showed VUR on VCUG. We retrospectively evaluated the frequency andcharacteristic findings of sonographic abnormalities according to the grade of VUR, and also the frequency ofcortical defects seen on renal scans of 32 patients with VUR. The remaining 117 patients without VUR were alsoevaluated for the frequency of abnormal findings seen on sonography and renal scans. RESULTS: Among 32 patients(49 kidneys) with VUR, abnormal findings were not detected in 17 (29 kidneys) on sonography ; thus, findings wereabnormal in 15(20 kidneys, 41%). Among these 20 kidneys, renal calyceal and/or pelvic dilatation and dilatation ofdistal ureter were seen in 11, all of which were grade 4-5 VUR. Renal pelvic dilatation only was noted in eightkidneys ; two were grade 1-3 and six were grade 4-5 VUR. Nineteen patients (24 kidneys, 49%) showed focal corticaldefects on renal scintigraphy. Six kidneys were grade 1-3, and 18 kidneys were grade 4-5 VUR. Of 117 patientswithout VUR, 34 patients (29%) showed renal pelvic dilatation on sonography and in 14 patients (12%), corticaldefects were seen on renal scintigraphy. CONCLUSION: Among 32 patients with VUR, 41% showed abnormal sonographicfindings and in 49%, cortical defects were seen on renal scintigraphy. With a higher grade of VUR, the prevalenceof abnormalities increased on both sonography and renal scintigraphy. Sonographic demonstration of renal calicealand/or pelvic dilatation associated with ipsilateral distal ureteric dilatation was the characteristic finding inhigh grade VUR.
