1.Relationship between Uncertainty and Health-related Quality of Life in Elderly Patients Undergoing Total Knee Arthroplasty: The Mediating Effects of Sense of Coherence and Social Support
Journal of Korean Academy of Fundamental Nursing 2022;29(3):284-294
The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effects of sense of coherence and social support in the relationship between uncertainty and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in elderly patients who underwent with total knee arthroplasty. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted with 186 patients who underwent total knee arthroplasty. Data were collected from September 17 to October 16, 2019 through structured questionnaires and analyzed with descriptive statistics, the independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson correlation coefficients, and a parallel redundant mediated model in the PROCESS macro using SPSS version 27.0. Results: The mean scores of uncertainty, sense of coherence, social support, and HRQoL were 100.72, 49.77, 93.77, and 41.61. The direct effect of uncertainty on HRQoL and the indirect effect of uncertainty, mediated by sense of coherence and social support, on HRQoL were statistically significant. Conclusion: These results indicate that in order to increase the HRQoL of elderly patients who undergo total knee arthroplasty, it is necessary to develop an intervention program that focuses both on reducing uncertainty and on improving patients’ sense of coherence and social support.

3.Factors Influencing Musculoskeletal Symptoms in Military Personnel during Basic Combat Training.
Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2016;46(4):523-533
PURPOSE: This study was done to examine physical, psycho-social, and individual factors influencing musculoskeletal symptoms among Korean military trainees. METHODS: Using a correlation study design, military trainees who had completed almost of all the basic combat training (BCT) days were recruited from two military training units selected by convenience sampling. Data from 415 participants were analyzed. RESULTS: Prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms was 29.6% defined as a participant having pain or discomfort in one or more body parts during training hours for more than seven consecutive days. Back/pelvic (10.8%), knees (10.1%), shoulders (7.7%), feet/toes (5.6%), ankles (4.8%) were prone to musculoskeletal symptoms. Musculoskeletal symptoms appeared to be related to physical exertion during BCT, stress during BCT, social support from fellow trainees, or previous musculoskeletal injuries. In the logistic regression model, physical exertion during BCT (OR=2.27, 95% CI: 1.42~3.65), stress during BCT (OR=1.79, 95% CI: 1.15~2.78), and previous musculoskeletal injuries (OR=1.58, 95% CI: 1.01~2.47) were the significant factors affecting prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms. CONCLUSION: Findings indicate that physical exertion and psycho-social stress should be managed to prevent musculoskeletal symptoms in military trainees with more attention being given to trainees having a history of musculoskeletal injuries.

It is known in general that neoplasms of smooth mucsle appear very rarely in the oral region, probaly because in the oral region with histopathologic investigations have been reported. This report presents an unusual case of angioleiomyoma that developed on the lower lip of a 48-year the course of one year and the immunohistochemical findings of the angioleiomyyoma are described.

Osteochondrodysplasia is a heterogeneous group of disorders appearing short limbed dwarfism. Because many of these entities are lethal and hereditary, an accurate diagnosis is mandatory. The purpose of this study is to define the clinicopathologic features and radiologic findings of osteochondrodysplasia. We reviewed 29 autopsy cases of congenital short limbed dwarfism, consisting of thanatophoric dysplasia (TD) (12 cases), osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) (12 cases), asphyxiating thoracic dysplasia (ATD) (3 cases), short-rib-polydactyly syndrome (SRPS) (1 case) and hypochondrogenesis (1 case). The gestational age ranged from 16 to 41 weeks. Of 6 fetuses that were born alive, 3 were ATD, 2 were TD and 1 was hypochondrogenesis. TD was frequently complicated by hydramnios. Of 8 cases studied chromosomally, only 1 showed chromosomal abnormality -46XY, inv 9. Intrauterine growth retardation was frequently associated with OI. Pulmonary hypoplasia was present in 23 cases (79%), including all cases of ATD, SRPS and hypochondrogenesis, 11 in TD and 7 in OI. Other associated anomalies were present in 17 cases (59%).

Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2004;34(5):801-808
PURPOSE: This study was aimed to identify the effect of self-foot reflexology on the relief of premenstrual syndrome and dysmenorrhea in high school girls. METHOD: Study subjects was 236 women residing in the community, teachers and nurses who were older than 45 were recruited. Data was collected with self administered questionnaires from July 1st to August 31st, 2003 and analysed using SPSS/WIN 10.0 with Xtest, t-test, and stepwise multiple logistic regression at a significant level of =.05. RESULT: The breast cancer screening rate was 57.2%, and repeat screening rate was 15.3%. With the multiple logistic regression analysis, factors associated with mammography screening were age and perceived barriers of action, and factors related to the repeat mammography screening were education level and other cancer screening experience. CONCLUSION: Based on the results, we recommend the development of an intervention program to decrease the perceived barrier of action, to regard mammography as an essential test in regular check-up, and to giveactive advertisement and education to the public to improve the rates of breast cancer screening and repeat screening.

Journal of Breast Cancer 2009;12(3):223-226
Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs) are malignant variants of peripheral nerve sheath tumors that develop at major or minor peripheral nerve branches or at the sheaths of peripheral nerve fibers. These tumors are derived from Schwann cells or pluripotent cells of a neural crest origin. Malignant tumors of the peripheral nerve sheath are most commonly seen in deeper soft tissues, and usually in the proximity of a nerve trunk. MPNSTs of the breast are very uncommon and they have rarely been reported on. We report here on a case of MPNST of the breast in a 59-year-old female who presented with a painless breast lump for two months. The excisional biopsy revealed a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor based on the microscopic findings and immunohistochemical staining. We performed wide excision of breast tissue around the biopsy site and thereafter the patient underwent radiation therapy. The patient remains well without signs of recurrence 1 year following surgery.

Korean Journal of Pediatrics 2014;57(8):351-356
PURPOSE: Among the many factors associated with acute intestinal mucosal infection, numerous studies have proposed the usefulness of fecal calprotectin. The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of fecal calprotectin in the diagnosis of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). METHODS: We collected 154 stool samples from 16 very low birth weight and premature newborns at the Konyang University Hospital neonatal intensive care unit or neonatal nursery. The stool samples were collected using the Calprest device, and the fecal calprotectin level was measured with the BUHLMANN Calprotectin enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit. RESULTS: Fecal calprotectin levels were significantly higher in the NEC group than in the non-NEC group (P=0.02). There was a significant positive linear relationship between the fecal calprotectin level and number of days after birth (P=0.00) in the gestational age <26 weeks group. There was a significant negative linear relationship between the calprotectin level and number of days after birth (P=0.03) in the gestational age > or =26 weeks and <30 weeks group. There was no difference in the calprotectin levels according to the type and method of feeding between the NEC and non-NEC groups. CONCLUSION: Fecal calprotectin levels were significantly increased in premature infants with NEC. The fecal calprotectin test is a noninvasive, easy, and useful tool for the diagnosis of NEC.
