Articular cartilage can be damaged by trauma or by progressive degradation caused by disease. Unfortunately, it has a extremely limited capacity for repair and regeneration. The use of joint prosthesis has revolutionized but remains limited in its use. To know the possibility of clinical application of clinical application of autogenous bone-articular graft in open complicated intraarticular fractures we studied the change of bone-articular cartilage defect in medial femoral condyle of rabbits and viability of autogenous bone-articular graft stored within abdominal wall of rabbits. The results were obtained as follows: 1. There was over 90% viability of subchondral bone after 10 days storage in the adbominal wall but the articular cartilage showed degenerative change about 40% after 5 days passed. 2. The bone-articular defect was replaced by undifferentiated mesenchymal tissue and fibrous tissue, postoperative 6 weeks later. 3. In implanted bone-articular cartilage graft at 3 days, the chondrocyte of basal cell layer in articular cartilage was relatively well preserved but in 7 days, transplanted articular cartilage graft showed almost necrotic chage. Most of subchondral bones were well healed with host bone without regard to duration of implantation.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of aromatherapy on stress, fatigue, mood, and vital signs of the nurses in the operating rooms. METHODS: The data were collected from September 2007 to February 2008 in the operating room at K hospital located in Seoul, Korea. A total of 48 nurses were recruited. Among them, 25 nurses were randomly assigned to an experimental group and 23 were assigned to a control group. Experimental group was provided with aroma inhalation by necklace which had essential oil mixture of 0.2 cc. For aroma inhalation, Lavender, Zeranium and Mazoram were mixed in ratio of 5:3:2. In order to test the effectiveness of aroma inhalation, the pretest and posttest results for stress, fatigue, mood, and vital signs were compared between the experimental group and the control group. The data were analyzed by unpaired t-test and ANCOVA using the SPSS/WIN 15.0 program. RESULTS: There were statistically significant decreases in the stress and fatigue scores, and increase in the mood scores and showed significant relaxation in the vital signs after the aroma inhalation. CONCLUSION: The aromatherapy had the positive effects on stress, fatigue, mood, and vital signs.

Characteristic dermatoglyphic patterns are found on the volar aspect of the skin of the primates including, man, apes, monkeys and some kinds of marsupiaIs. It is the delieate continuous or discontinuous and sometimes interrupted or branched, variable shaped configuration of ridged skin patterns, which is composed of the unit pattern of arch, loop and whorl. It is characteristically unique for any individuals so it has been used popularly as a convenient method of personal ideatification or for use in studies of inheritance epecially i the field of Iegal medicine. Besides that, there are statistieal differences between left and right finger, males and femals and different races. Of particular interest is the fct the distortion of the dermatoglypbic patterns occur in relation to cbromosomal aberrations, for exarnple, in mongolism,Klinefelter's syndrome and Turner'e syndrome. In addition to that, dermatoglyphic features may prove and aid to diagnree in dermatology, such as, in alopecia areata, psoriasis and leprosy. Thus, authors studied on the dermatoglyphic pattern types in the 234 cases of healthy normal males, 44 male psoriatic patients and 58 male alopecia areata patients during the period of 10 months from Novernber, 1977 to August, 1978, The resulta are as follows: A. Psoriasis 1. In the analysis of the total fingertip ridges, there are significant differences (p<0.01) between the alopecia areata (141.66+/-8.36) and the control group (152.93+/-9.50). 2. A significant statistical difference between the psoriasis and the control group does not exist with respect to the pattern intensity. 3. In the incidence of simian lines, the psoriatic patients (15.91%) showed more incidence rate than those of control group (8.98%). 4. With respect to the proportional distance (mm.) between the distal flexion crease of the wrist to the base of the middle finger with the distance (mm.) of the same point of the wrist to the axial triradius, a significant statistical difference (p<0.05) between the left hands of the control gorup (15.24+/-0.37%) and, those of psoriasis (17.35+/-1.01%) was existed. 5. As for the and angle, there is no significant differences between the control and psoriasis group. 6. There is no statistical differences in view point the pattern types between the psoriasis and the control group, however in psoriasis group, double whorls are decreased than those of control gorup (6.8%). B. Alopecia areata 1. In the analysis of the total fingertip ridges, there is significant difference (P<0.01) between the Alopecia areata (138.40+/-5.03) and the control group (152.93+/-9.50). 2. A significant statistical differences (P<0.005) between the alopecia areata (14.193+/-0.487) and the control group (14.728+/-0.182) exist with respect to the pattern intensity. 3. In the incidence of simian lines, the alopecia areata patients (3.44%) showed lower incidence rate than those of control group (8.98%). 4. With respect to the proportional distance (mm.) between the distal flexion crease of the wrist to the base of the middle finger with the distance (mm.) of the same point of the wrist to tbe axial triradius, a significant statistical difference(p<0.05) between the left hands of the control group (15.24+/-0.37%) and those of alopecia areata (16.66+/-0.70%) was existed. 5. As for the and angle, it is increased significantly (P<0.01) in both hands of alopecia areata, especially in the right hands of alopecia areata, it is increased about twice that of control group. 6. There is no statistical differences in the pattern types between alopecia areata and control group, however in alopecia areata patients, whorls in the right index finger are decreased (39.66%) than those of control gorup (50.16%), Whereas loops in the right index finger are more freguently found (50%) than those of control group (37.44%).

Stasis eczema is one of the important skin manifestations caused by venous stasia. dueto vascular disturbances. Until now a few casses of stasis eczema accornpanied with inferior vena cava obstruction were reported in the literatures. The patient, 31-year old barber, has been suffered from right upper guadrant abdominal pain and tenderness for 6 years, and had dark brownish mottled scaly eczematoid patches of both lower extremitiea for 6 yrs. Inferiorvenacavogram through the right fernoral vein showed complete obstruction of inferior vena cava above the level of T10, and well developed several collateraI veins. Findings of skin biopsy on the right ankle joint area revealed moderate acanthosis, increased pigrnentation of the basal cell layer in the epidermis, capillary proliferation and hemosiderin granules in the dermis, that is consistent with stasis eczema. Possible etiological factor of inferior vena cava obstruction waa discussed and also reviewed with literatvre.

Gestational trophoblastic disease associated with the tubal pregnancy is uncommon, and the incidence has been described as 1/5000 tubal pregnancy. We have experienced a case of metastatic gestational trophoblastic disease(GTD) in the lung occuring with complete hydatidiform mole arising in tubal pregnancy. The patient was a 39-year-old, G4P2A2L2 woman with amenorrhea for 5 weeks. Ectopic pregnancy in the right fallopian tube was suspected on transvaginal ultrasonogram. A right adnexectomy was performed. The fallopian tube was markedly dilated and ruptured. The right ovary and a round hematoma had adhered to the external surface of the fallopian tube. On gross examination, no molar tissue was identified. On microscopic examination, the lumen of the dilated fallopian tube was filled with blood clots admixed with several chorionic villi showing hydropic swelling and marked proliferation of atypical trophoblasts. Proliferating syncytio-and cytotrophoblasts invaded the wall of the blood vessels of the fallopian tube and sheets of trophoblasts and some villi were identified in the lumen of blood vessels. Multiple pulmonary nodules thought to be metastatic nodules were identified in the chest X-ray and serum beta-HCG had increased 2 weeks later. This case indicates that a careful pathological examination in the ectopic pregnancy is mandatory, because tubal GTD is not clinically distinguishable from ordinary tubal pregnancy.

Total knee arthroplaty has been used to treat the elderly patient who has severe arthritis but the early designs were associated with many problems, which frequently led to early failure. In 1974, the total knee arthroplasty was introduced and the reported results of this operation have improved consistantly with time. Recently the good results has been shown to treat rheumatoid patients and osteoarthritis patients less than 45 years old patients. At the department of orthopaedic surgery of Kosin Medical College, between 1984 and 1988, total knee arthroplasty was performed in 17 patients (22 kness) who had rhematioid arthritis (7 patients) and osteoarthritis (11 patients), and had followed for an average of 1 year and 8 months. The results were as follows 1. The knee that had rheumatoid arthritis had better knee scores than that of osteoarthritis. 2. The knee that remained the post cruciate lig. had better range of motion than that sacrificed. 3. The knees that had not used cement had better knee scores than that had used the cement. 4. The knees that had patella resulrfacing had better scores for pain than that had not.
