1.Effect of Degassing Condition on Ceramic Bond Strength of Ni-Cr Alloys.

This study evaluated the effect of dagassing on the ceramic bond strength of two Ni-Cr alloys under varying holding time at the upper limit temperature and atmospheric conditions. Metal specimens were divided into 5 groups for each alloy according to degassing conditions prior to porcelain application : no degassing, degassing under vacuum without hold, degassing under vacuum with hold for 5min. and 10 min. respectively at the upper limit temperature and degassing in air. Total number of metal ceramic specimens was eighty and each group had eight specimens : The ceramic bond strength was measured by four-point flexural test using Instron and the fractured surface was examined under SEM. The results obtained were as follows. 1. Degassing in air improved the ceramic bond strength of Ni-Cr alloys. 2. in degassing under vacuum, hold at the upper limit temperature was advantageous to the ceramic bonding of Ni-Cr alloys. 3. After ceramic metal bond test, metal surfaces were partially covered with the thin porcelain layer, and the cohesive failures in porcelain were predominant in groups showing higher ceramic bond strength.

3.A Case of Primary Hypomagnesemia.

Primary hypomagnesemia is a rare inherited disorder and it is considered to be due to either a defect in the intestinal transport of magnesium or a defect in renal tubular transport. It is important to measure the urinary excretion of magnesium to differentiate the causes of magnesium deficiency. We report here an one-month-old female infant of primary hypomagnesemia who presented generalized tonic-clonic seizures. She had hypomagnesemia(<1.5mg/dL) and several seizure attacks but normal magnesium creatinine ratio in random urine and normal magnesium excretion in 24-hour urine. Continuous oral magnesium supplementation was necessary to avoid the recurrence of symptoms and maintain serum rnagnesium levels.

4.A Case of Extrapelvic Endometriosis with Abdominal Pain in a 13-Year-Old Girl.

Endometriosis is defined as the presence of endometrial tissue, e.g. gland and stroma, outside the uterus. Extrapelvic endometriosis is a rare condition but it occurrs in the gastrointestinal tract, kidney, pancreas, umbilicus, perianal area, abdominal scar tissue, lung or central nervous system except spleen. We have experienced a case of extrapelvic endometriosis in an adolescent girl, who complained of severe left upper quadrant abdominal pain and vomiting. The lesion was diagnosed by abdominal ultrasonography and computerized tomography, and confirmed histologically by exploratory laparotomy and mass excision biopsy. During menstration after surgery, she had no complaint of abdominal pain nor dysmenorrhea. We report this case with a review of associated literature.

Hemangiopericytoma is a rare vascular tumor arising from pericytes. The tumor usually develops in the skin or subcutaneous tissue, particularly in the extremities.4 pulmonary origin of hemangiopericytoma is known to be quite rare. It has the potential to become a highly malignant lesion, so wide excision is the treatment of choice. We present a case of primary malignant hemangiopericytoma of the lung and discuss the clinical symptoms, diagnosis, therapy and prognosis within the context of a brief review.

7.Luteolin Promotes Apoptosis of Endometriotic Cells and Inhibits the Alternative Activation of Endometriosis-Associated Macrophages

Luteolin, a flavonoid present in several fruits, vegetables, nuts, and herbs reportedly exhibits anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties. However, the effect of luteolin on endometriosis, a painful condition characterized by the ectopic growth of endometrial tissue and pelvic inflammation, remains elusive. Herein, we observed that luteolin inhibited cell growth and induced apoptosis of 12Z human endometriotic cells by activating caspase-3, -8, and -9. Additionally, luteolin significantly inhibited the expression of key chemokines, C-C motif chemokine ligand 2 (CCL2) and CCL5, required for monocyte/macrophage influx at endometriotic sites. In macrophages stimulated by endometriotic cells, luteolin treatment suppressed the intracellular expression of M2 markers and endometriosis-promoting factors. Collectively, our data suggest that luteolin exerts anti-endometriotic effects by stimulating endometriotic cell apoptosis and hindering the alternative activation of macrophages.
8.Dermoscopic features of an unusual case of targetoid hemosiderotic nevus

Targetoid hemosiderotic nevus (THN) is a rare variant of melanocytic nevus, characterized by a sudden development of a targetoid ecchymotic halo around a pre-existing nevus. THN clinically raises concern for malignant transformation due to its abrupt change in color and size. THN should be distinguished from other diseases showing a peripheral halo, including targetoid hemosiderotic hemangioma, halo nevus, and Meyerson nevus. Dermoscopy can help clinicians to differentiate THN from these diseases. The typical dermoscopic features of THN are known to be divided into two distinctive areas: the central melanocytic area and the peripheral ecchymotic area. In our case, dermoscopy revealed a novel bull’s eye pattern composed of a central area with characteristic features of benign melanocytic nevus, an intermediated white circular ring, and a peripheral milky red area. When a sudden change occurs in a pre-existing nodule showing targetoid features, dermoscopy should be considered before conducting a biopsy or surgical intervention.

10.Effects of Propofol or Thiopental on the Intracranial Pressure in the Patients for Transsphenoidal Approach.

The effects of propofol and thiopental on the intracranial pressure (ICP) were investigated in forty, male or female adult patients with transsphenoidal approach for pituitary tumors. A 7-French epidural catheter was inserted into the lumbar subarachnoid space and connected to a pressure transducer for the monitoring of ICP and the air or saline injection. And then, the inhalation anesthesia with 3%-isoflurane via mask following thiopental and metocurine was done. The mean ICPs at the preanesthetic period, 10 min after 3%-isoflurane inhalation with mask, immediately after intubation and after 5-10 ml air or saline injection were about 4, 8, 12, 16 and 30 mmHg, respectively. With the equipotent hypnotic dose of propofol (1 mg/kg)(Group I) or thipental (2 mg/kg)(Group II), the increased ICPs were diminished to the level prior to air or saline injection. Even if mean arterial pressure (MAP) with either agents were reduced significantly comparing with pre-administration values, cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP) were significantly decreased only with group I. The authors conclude that propofol could be ascertained to reduce the increased ICP as thiopental did, but propofol reduced MAP to higher degree than thiopental. Accordingly, CPP were lower with propofol than with thiopental.
