1.Disability Weights for Osteoporosis and Osteoporotic Fractures in South Korea

BACKGROUND: Korea is expected to become an ultra-aged society, in which the elderly population will account for more than 20% of the total population, after 2025. Thus, the social costs due to osteoporotic fractures are expected to increase. Therefore, this study aimed to measure disability weights (DWs) of osteoporosis and osteoporotic fractures in Korea. METHODS: The scenarios were developed to standardize the severity of 6 health statuses: osteoporosis and osteoporotic fractures including wrist, hip, post-hip, vertebral, and post-vertebral fracture. The values for these 6 health statuses were sought via a person trade-off (PTO) approach. We measured the value by PTO and we calculated it to DW of 6 health statuses. Three clinical expertise panels of 33 experts were established, and face-to-face interviews were conducted from July to December 2017. RESULTS: The distribution of DW varied by panel. DWs ranged from 0.5 (Osteoporosis) to 0.857 (Hip fracture) for Panel 1, 0.091 (Osteoporosis) to 0.5 (Hip fracture) for Panel 2, and 0.091 (Osteoporosis) to 0.726 (Hip fracture) for Panel 3. The final values for the 6 health statuses obtained by pooling all data from 3 panels ranged from 0.286 (Osteoporosis) to 0.750 (Hip fracture). There was no significant difference in rankings for the 6 health statuses among the 3 panels. CONCLUSIONS: Comparing the DW of osteoporotic fracture in this study with other diseases in previous studies, it is predicted that osteoporotic fractures, especially hip fractures, will have a considerable burden of disease.

2.Immunohistochemical Localization of Translationally Controlled Tumor Protein in Axon Terminals of Mouse Hippocampal Neurons.

Translationally controlled tumor protein (TCTP) is a cytosolic protein with microtubule stabilization and calcium-binding activities. TCTP is expressed in most organs including the nervous system. However, detailed distribution and functional significance of TCTP in the brain remain unexplored. In this study, we investigated the global and subcellular distributions of TCTP in the mouse brain. Immunohistochemical analyses with anti-TCTP revealed that TCTP was widely distributed in almost all regions of the brain including the cerebral cortex, thalamus, hypothalamus, hippocampus, and amygdala, wherein it was localized in axon tracts and axon terminals. In the hippocampus, TCTP was prominently localized to axon terminals of the perforant path in the dentate gyrus, the mossy fibers in the cornu ammonis (CA)3 region, and the Schaffer collaterals in the CA1 field, but not in cell bodies of granule cells and pyramidal neurons, and in their dendritic processes. Widespread distribution of TCTP in axon tracts and axon terminals throughout the brain suggests that TCTP is likely involved in neurotransmitter release and/or maintaining synaptic structures in the brain, and that it might have a role in maintaining synaptic functions and synaptic configurations important for normal cognitive, stress and emotional functions.

3.Analysis of Telephone Counseling of Patients in Chemotherapy Using Text Mining Technique

Purpose:
The purpose of this study was to analyze the frequency and relevance of frequent keywords using text mining analysis for symptom-related telephone counseling of patients undergoing chemotherapy, and to understand the current status and characteristics of the nursing intervention.
Methods:
442 cases of telephone counseling of patients undergoing chemotherapy were collected. The symptoms were classified and separated according to the contents of the consultation between the nurse and the counseling participants. Using the python library, frequency words were extracted, and the generation of word co-occurrence matrices was analyzed through social network analysis.
Results:
For the four cancers to be analyzed (breast, colorectum, stomach, lung), the common frequent words of nurse and counseling participants were ‘medical staff (uilyojin)’, ‘medical treatment (jinlyo)’, ‘treatment (chilyo)’, ‘other hospital (tabyeongwon)’, ‘prescription (cheobang)’. In the analysis of social networks, words with highly betweenness centrality, which appear in common, almost matched those of frequent words.
Conclusion
In this study, it was possible to extract the most frequent words by cancer type from the contents of telephone counseling with cancer patients and to understand the current status and context of the actual telephone counseling focusing on each keyword.
