Rabies is a fetal viral encephalitis to which all mammals, including man are susceptible. This virus, the genus of Rhabdovirus, is usually present in the saliva of infected animals and is transmitted by their bite. As a rule the virus enter the CNS by ascending along peripheral nervous system and extremely variable in extent. Negri bodies are appear in about 75% of cases. These bodies are eosinophilic, usually rounded inclusions and is located in the cystoplasm of the neurons, most frequently in the pyramidal neurons of the Hippocampus and the Purkinje cells of the cerebellum. We have experienced a case of canine rabies that showed Negri bodies in the Purkinje cells along with diffuse degenerative encephalitis and perivascular mononuclear cells infiltration. The Negri bodies were best demonstrated by Negri body staining although routine H-E staind was also useful. There inclusion bodies were located exclusively in the cytoplasm, and were found occasionally. Electron microscopic findings of the Negri bodies showed aggregates of bulletshaped nucleocapsids. We report a Negri body found in the brain of rabid dog with the light and electron microscopic findings.

In 1929, Bailey first described an intracranial sarcomatous tumor as a term of perithelial sarcoma. The term of microgliomatosis was introduced by Benedek and Juba, 1941. In recent period, malignant lymphoma was widely used rather than many other terms such as reticulum cell sarcoma, malignant reticulosis, etc. An autopsy case of microgliomatosis was presented. She was a 33-year-old woman with headache, ataxia, memory disturbance, defecation and micturition difficulty. She was relatively well until 3 months earlier before admission. She visited first St. Vincent Hospital due to memory disturbance, and a tumor was found in her left frontal lobe by CT scanning of her brain. She was transferred to Kang Nam Sacred Heart Hospital for further evaluation of the tumor mass. She ws given steroid therapy and somewhat improved in her symptoms. By follow-up CT scannings, the tumor could not be found. Her general conditions were progressively deteriorated and died on 85th day of her admission. Brain limited autopsy was performed. The external features of her brain were grossly unremarkable. Cut surfaces revealed multiple ill-defined grayish white masses, especially on deep white matter of left frontal lobe, left cingulate gyrus and white matter together with medial side of basal ganglia. The definite size was not able to be measured, but the largest one in left frontal lobe was about 2.5cm in diameter. Microscopically, the tumors have many characteristics of microgliomatosis, such as perivascular arrangement of tumor cells and concentric reticulin condensation. These microscopic features were seen not only in grossly visible masses but also in other areas, almost all cerebral hemispheres. Literature review on microgliomatosis and a case report were done.

Tarsometatarsal injury has not been paid much attention due to it is unusual frequency. But the cases of tarsometatarsal injuries are on the increase in proportion to the increasing "high energy trauma injury" resulted from the traffic and industrial accidents. The purpose of this study is both assessing the relative effects among clinical results, final radiologic findings, treatment results and symtoms. In view of the results so far achieved from 20 cases of tarsometatarsal fracture dislocation which had been treated at Sung-Ae general hospital from January 1990 to December 1993, the results were as follows: 1. Thirteen cases were treated by open reduction and 3 cases were treated by closed reduction with smooth pins but no reduction loss were experienced. 2. Traumatic arthrosis could be observed in 14 cases but there were no influences on the functional end results. 3. Anatomical results correlated with pain. 4. Anatomical or neraly anatomical reduction was considered as most important factor of prognosis.

Reduced nasal breathing can influence the growth and development of facial structures. It may have many causes, and enlarged adenoid is the most frequent one. To investigate the effects of adenoids to jaw growth, we must first understand the normal growth of adenoids and jaws, and the relationship between size of adenoids and the values for the jaw variables. The purpose of this study is to present a more objective standard of nasopharyngeal size and jaw dimension at each bone age, by using Cervical Vertebrae Maturation Index(CVMI) of Hassel, from normal occlusion children aged 6 to 17. The results of this study suggests as follows: 1. At same bone age, female's chronologic age was about 2 year older than male. 2. There was a growth peak of nasopharyngeal(NP) height and depth between CVMI 1 to 2 in male, but in female NP height and depth gradually increase through CVMI 1 to 6. 3. Relative airway of nasopharynx increases the most between CVMI 1 to 2 period in both gender. 4. Among adenoid measurements, Ad2-related variables and upper pharynx, and among dentofacial measurements intercanine width in both arch, maxillary intermolar width and palatal depth had high correlation coefficient with adenoid percentage.

Myasthenia gravis is a rare disease entity in Korea, and its occurrence with a thymoma is even rarer. Myasthenia gravis has offered many difficult problems for the anesthesiologist because it affects respiratory muscles frequently and perioperative management of these patients is difficult. The authors aensthetized a patient with myasthenia gravis and thymoma. We report this experience with a brief literature review.

This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of cauterization on histopathology of sclera and corneal astigmatism. All rabbit eyes had corneal steepening in the vertical meridian after cauterization. The greatest astigmatism was noticed immediately after cauterized eyes and then was reduced gradually for a period of 2 months. Under light microscope, necrosis of collagen fibrils and inflammatory cells were found immediately after cauterization of the eyes. After 2 months, treated sclera was recovered to normal structure. Under electron microscope, tissue defect was found immediately after cauterization. At the 1st month, tissue defect was replaced by small collagen fibrils, however, these changes were much improved during a period of 2 months. This study suggest that gradual loss of corneal astigmatism following cauterization was correlated with the histopathologic healing process of cauterization. The author recommends usage of the lightest and briefest application of wet field bipolar cautery at the lowest power setting capable of achieving hemostasis for minimal astigmatism.

Intracranial nerve sheath tumors unrelated to the cranial nerve roots are extremely rare, and the origin of the tumors are debatable. We report a case of pathologically-proven neurofibroma inside the lateral ventricle. A 49-year-old man presented with headache of 6 months duration, urinary incontinence, visual disturbance and right hemiplegia. Brain CT scan showed a well defined isodense mass with homogenous contrast enhancement and marginal calcification. At surgery the tumor was found to be a 4cm-sized lobulated mass attached only to the choroid plexus. Histologically, the tumor masses consisted of fasciculating bundles of wavy spindle cells, with a considerable collagen laydown.
