To achieve optimal decalcification in tissue and tissue preservation, we have tried magnetic field method and made some promising results. We used pulsed unipolar magnetic field obtained by rectification of 250 V-60 cycle, A.C. As a new method of bony decalcification, using 5% nitric acid, 10% formic acid and 10% formic acid+3% hydrochloric acid solutions, experimental groups were decalcified in the center of the magnetic field. The concentration of calcium ion in the decalcifying solution was measured by calcium-oxalate turbidity test by photometry method, and direct visualization of calcium radiopacity was obtained by soft X-ray view during the decalcification process. The pH change during decalcification was continuously checked and needle penetration method was also used. All the decalcification solution used in this study showed accelerated effect of bony decalcification in the strong magnetic field. Among them 5% nitric acid produced complete decalcification for the medium size bony specimen (less than 10x10x10 mm) within 24 hours, and the histologic feature was almost free of acid-chemical degeneration. The pH of all the decalcification solutions decreased in the strong magnetic field, maximum within 4~6 hours, and kept strong acidity throughout the decalcification procedure. After removal of the magnetic field the pH of all the decalcification solution returned to their original values after 24 hours. It was presumed that the cause of the accelerated decalcification in the magnetic field was due to combined effects of the rapid increase of acidity and the increased molecular resonance to stimulate the ionization of mineral elements.

Liposuction is one of the most frequently performed cosmetic surgeries worldwide for reshaping the body contour. Although liposuction is minimally invasive and relatively safe, it is a surgical procedure, and it carries the risk of major and minor complications. These complications vary from postoperative nausea to life-threatening events. Common complications include infection, abdominal wall injury, bowel herniation, bleeding, haematoma, seroma, and lymphoedema. Life-threatening complications such as necrotizing fasciitis, deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism have also been reported. In this paper, we provide a brief introduction to liposuction with the related anatomy and present computed tomography and ultrasonography findings of a wide spectrum of postoperative complications associated with liposuction.

Alcohol withdrawal syndrome (AWS) is a common condition occurring after intentional or unintentional abrupt cessation of alcohol in an alcohol-dependent individual. AWS represents a major problem in our society and alcohol withdrawal seizure is the major cause of seizures encountered by neurology residents in the emergency department. Patients with AWS present with mild symptoms of tremulousness and agitation or more severe symptoms including withdrawal seizures and delirium tremens. Particularly, severe AWS can produce significant rates of the morbidity (complications) and mortality. When diagnosed and managed insufficiently, the morbidity and mortality rates increase. Nevertheless, patients with AWS may be neglected and are often marginalized and the teaching about AWS to neurology residents is usually minimal. Also, attending neurologists are often poorly informed on the topic. Although there is insufficient consensus about the optimal investigation and management, the purpose of this review is to serve as a summary of the appropriate identification and management of this important condition in a neurological setting.

The aim of this study was to analyze the difference of the measurements of mandible between young male and female using three dimensional reconstruction images derived from the facial bone CT images. Type classification of mandible was performed based on the angle of base of mandible and the angle of mandibular margin observed from the anterior view and the correlation among the measurement items was analyzed. One hundred-ninety five young adults facial CT were collected from the Konkuk University medical center (98 females, 97 males; mean age 25.9 years, range 18~38 years). Three dimensional images of the face were reconstructed using software from CT images of whole specimens. The angle of the base of the mandible, the angle of the mandibular margin, total length of mandibualr margin, and the height of mandibular symphysis were measured. All measurement items were larger and longer in male than female (P<0.05). Three types were classified according to the mandibular angle. In female, the subjects were evenly distributed among groups, but group I which had large mandibular angle was most common in male. The smaller the height of mandibular symphysis, the larger the angle of base of mandible or the angle of mandibular margin (P<0.05).

In recent years, digital technology has been developed in dentistry, which denture frameworks can be manufactured using DMLS (Direct Metal Laser Sintering) technique. A traditional impression method can be replaced by oral scanning and wax pattern production process can be achieved by the use of CAD/CAM techniques. The designed STL files can be sent to DMLS devices to fabricate final components of removable partial dentures (RPD). The advantages of digital dentistry are concision and precision. In this case study, a fracture of occlusal rests providing support and indirect retention was repaired by DMLS and laser welding techniques. It shows satisfactory results in adaptation accuracy and functional properties of the repaired denture.

Anatomical changes in the facial and alveolar bones occur after multiple teeth are extracted. In the maxilla, the alveolar bone is absorbed in the direction and inclination of the root, and the remaining alveolar bone becomes shorter, reducing the diameter of the arch. In addition, as the nasolabial angle increases, the support of the lips and the aesthetics of the face are lost. This case reports a functional and aesthetically satisfactory results of full mouth rehabilitation with the implant-supported fixed prosthesis using a zirconia framework.

Vaccination is an important strategy for controlling the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. We conducted a web-based cross-sectional survey based on Google Forms to collect data on adverse events (AEs) after the first dose of the ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccine for healthcare workers (HCWs). Among the 1,676 vaccinated HCWs, 59.5% (998/1,676) responded to the survey. In total, 809 (81.1%) respondents reported experiencing AEs. There were no serious AEs, such as anaphylaxis. The most common AE was pain at the injection site (76.2%), followed by fatigue (75.9%), myalgia (74.9%), and fever (58.4%). HCWs in the younger age group experienced significantly more AEs than in the older age group.

Background: Disseminating public knowledge on malignant melanoma through YouTube is an important way to bridge the gap between physicians and patients. However, videos recorded on this topic in Korea are yet to be evaluated. Objective: We aimed to evaluate the quality of YouTube videos on malignant melanoma recorded in Korea. We also investigated whether there was a difference in the quality of videos made by medical professionals (subdivided into dermatologists and non-dermatologists) and non-medical personnel. Methods: We included all videos recorded in Korean by searching YouTube using the keywords “melanoma” or “malignant melanoma”. The search was performed on March 22, 2021. The inclusion criterion was videos in Korean language that contained medical information about malignant melanoma. The characteristics and content information were collected for each video. Video quality (DISCERN, Global Quality Scale [GQS], Journal of the American Medical Association [JAMA] benchmark criteria) was analyzed. Results: Eighty-five videos met the inclusion criterion for the analysis. Fifty-six (66%) and 29 videos (34%) were made by medical and non-medical personnel, respectively. The videos made by medical professionals significantly contained more of the following information than those made by non-medical personnel: clinical information (p＜ 0.001), symptoms and signs (p=0.001), risk factors (p＜0.05), diagnosis (p＜0.001). Videos made by medical professionals, videos with a length of more than 5 minutes, or videos with more than 10,000 views had significantly higher quality scores (DISCERN, GQS, JAMA). Conclusion Considering that YouTube is being used as a portal for medical information, the participation of medical professionals is essential for providing more accurate information.
