1.Motor disorder among pediatric patients with Japanese encephalitis after acute stage
Journal of Vietnamese Medicine 1998;225(9):26-31
During the 1997-2000, 62 children patients with Japanese encephalitis were treated at the Pediatric Department, Vietnam Institute of Traditional Medicine for motor sequelae. The age range was from 8 months to 15 years, and 27 of them were girls. All of them had motor disorders as follows:-52 cases with tetraplegia.-43 cases with severe and complete paralysis (according to Henry degree)- 57 cases with spastic paralysis, and 5 cases with flaccid paralysis.-34 cases with extrapyramidal contracture, and 32 cases with marked axial dystonia

2.Japanese encephalitis in Vietnam during 1991-2001
Journal of Practical Medicine 2002;435(11):70-71
The Japanese encephalitis Circulated in Vietnam, especially in the delta provinces of Northern Vietnam. The yearly morbidity rate was 3-5 /100.000 rehabitants. The disease occurred mainly in ages of 1-15, highest in ages of 5-9 and followed by ages of 1-4 and in the summer (May, June, July). Vietnam manufactured the vaccine of encephalitis. It should strengthen the health communication and education and expanded immunization for susceptible ages

3.The situation of dengue haemorrhagic fever and Japanese encephalitis in the first half of 1999 in Kien Giang province.
Journal of Preventive Medicine 2002;12(1):79-81
There were 714 cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever and 1 death. The age of patients from 2-10 years old, none of them over 15 years old. The morbidity of III, IV degrees concentrated in Hon Dat, Tan Hiep, An Ninh, Rach Gia and also the districts that had the greatest morbidity, 56 cases of shock. The Steering Board issued a number of guideline documents and established preventive plan right at the beginning of the year with medical speciality. There were 28 cases of Japanese encephalitis, 25 cases with the age from 13 months - 5 years old, 3 cases with the age from 6-11 years old, 64% male and 36% female. The Pasteurs Institute of Ho Chi Minh City coordinated with the local authority to control the disease transmission in order to isolate virus and propagate measures of mosquito killing and hygienic methods around living area.

4.Use of Mac-Elisa to determine the frequency of Japanese encephalitis (JE) infection among pig population in Ha Tay, 2001-2001
Journal of Preventive Medicine 2003;13(1):5-11
From 2001 September to 2002 August, 566 serum samples of 5-6 months pig at Hoai Duc district, Ha Tay province were supervised. Results showed very high frequency of JE infection among pig population during epidemic season with the percentage of positivity was 82% in June. By contrast during another months of non-epidemic season, the frequency of JE infection among pig population was very low, with the percentage of positivity was between 1.96% and 14%

5.Monitoring the potency test of Je vaccine by shewhart chart
Journal of Preventive Medicine 2003;13(4):32-35
The potency of 33 lots of Japanese encephalitis vaccine produced during the year period 2000-2001 at the Company for Vaccine and Biologicals No1 was evaluated by Shewhart chart. Data showed that no any potency of these lots falls outside the range of one standard deviation 1SD. Results showed the good stability of production procedure, the efficacy of produced vaccine of the manipulation and of the practical conditions

6.Japanese encephalitis control by Japanese encephalitis vaccine in Expanded Program of Immunization in Vietnam.
Journal of Practical Medicine 2002;435(11):19-21
The outcomes of vaccination in 1 to 5-year children were surveyed in high-risk districts between 1997 and 2001. The Japanese encephalitis vaccination schedule as follows: In the first years, the children receive 2 injections with 1-week interval, in the next year they receive the third injection. The injection dose is 0.5 ml subcutaneous. Results: For 5 years continuously, there were 1,472,608 one to five-year children had immunized, reached rate of 94.7% in 90 high-risk districts. The program produced dramatic effect on prevention. The incidence of Japanese encephalitis dropped gradually over years. By 2002, the cases reduced by one third in comparison with previous time

7.Antibody response of immunized children to Japanese encephalitis virus clinical isolate HNH 639
Journal of Preventive Medicine 2000;10(4):23-27
57 school children were immunized with the Japanese encephalitis (JE) veccine produced at NIHE, Hanoi (Nakayama vaccine strain). One year after the third dose, their sera were examined for the presence of antibodies against a JE virus clinical isolate (HNH 693, isolated in North VietNam). The results showed that 100% of the serum samples had high antibody titers against both HNH 693 and Nakayama strains. the antibody titer against 693 was significantly higher than thatagainst Nakayama. Potency testing of 11 batches of NIHE-JE vaccine were carried out using parallely HNH 693 and Nakayama as challenge strains. It showed that all these 11 vaccine batches had high potency against both challenge strains (2.62 with HNH 693 and 2.38 with Nakayama).

8.Changes in results of Japanese encephalitis (JE) serodiagnosis in Northern Vietnam, 1998
Journal of Preventive Medicine 1999;9(1):19-22
During the 1998 Japanese Encephalitis epidemic in Northern Vietnam the authors have examined 402 patients which were clinically diagnosed as "acute encephalitis syndrome". The IgM anti JE was evidenced in only 132 cases. The seropositivity is patients under 5 years of age was 33.0 - 42.1% in 1998, compared with 64.2 - 75.7% during the period of 1989 - 1995.

Journal of Preventive Medicine 1999;9(1):32-35
Particle agglutination assay (PA) was developed and applied for detecting specific IgM antibodies to Japanese encephalitis virus in recent years. In this study, the sensitivity of PA and MAC-ELISA were 91.11 and 97.77%, respectively

10.To evaluate the efficacy of Vietnam produced vaccine of Japanese encephalitis
Journal of Practical Medicine 2003;442(2):22-24
On 293 healthy children of 2-4 years old of age in the Commune Song Ho, Thuan Thanh District, Bac Ninh Province, of them 101 children were vaccinated with Vietnam produced vaccine and 102 with Biken vaccine. Results showed that Vietnam produced vaccine manifested an antibody response of 100% with Tb antibody valent (GMT) of 3.48. After 1 year of basal immunization, GMT decreased by 2.49 but it was still higher than 2.5 times of minimal value and after the 3rd injection of vaccines GMT increased by > 4.01 times higher than the basal immunization level. In comparing with Biken vaccine, the Vietnam produced vaccine has a GMT antibody response rate and a long duration of life of antibody with high level comparable to the Japan produced vaccine
