2.An implant-supported removable partial denture on milled bars to compromise the inadequate treatment plan: a clinical report.
The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics 2010;2(2):58-60
Presurgical prosthetic treatment planning is critical for the success of the implant prosthesis. Inadequate treatment plan, due to insufficient discussion between prosthodontist, and surgeon, may result in poor prognosis. A 26-year-old male patient was referred for prosthodontic treatment after implant was placed in the area of teeth #17, 16, 22, 25 and 27, without adequate discussion nor the treatment planning between oral surgeon and prosthodontist. It was found that the patient had two hopeless teeth, and a severely resorbed alveolar ridge. Additional tooth extraction was needed and the type of definitive prosthesis was shifted from fixed type to removable one. Proper pre-surgical treatment planning is essential for the good prognosis. Implant-supported removable prosthesis on milled bars may be a useful treatment option in patients with incorrect angled placement on severely resorbed alveolar ridge.

Yeungnam University Journal of Medicine 1993;10(2):506-511
This study was conducted to examine the effect of mefenamic acid for treatment of PDA in premature newborns. Ductus arteriosus is reopened by locally produced prostaglandin E2 in a premature newborn during hypoxia. Mefenamic acid is one of non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs acting by inhibition of cyclo-oxygenase in the prostaglandin synthesis pathway. For three premature newborns with PDA, we administered mefenamic acid and evaluated them with echocardiography to study the effect of mefenmic acid for closure of PDA. In all three babies, ductus arteriosus was closed successfully. We feel that mefenamic acid is safe and effective medication for treatment of PDA in premature newborns, but further-study need to be conducted with larger numbers of cases to confirm this effect.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1987;28(1):151-155
The authors evaluated the 56 patients who received the diagnosis of myopia at the department of ophthalmology in Koryo General Hospital in Seoul from May 1975 to August 1985. In this study, we reviewed the statistics of the progression of myopia with age and with the number of visits to the hospital and also the differences between male and female and left eye and right eye. The results are as follows: 1. Myopia progresses with increase of age. 2. The mean diopter of myopia over 21 years is not so remarkable compared with below 20 years. But it is not absolutely true because the number of patients are so small. 3. On the average, males are slightly higher in the degree of myopia than female, but this seems to have no statistical meaning. 4. In terms of the degree of myopia, it is higher after the age of 12 than before 12.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1986;27(6):1121-1125
Gliomas of the optic nerve are relatively uncommon. We have experienced one case of glioma of the optic nerve recently. The patient was 17 year old boy who had exophthalmos and visual disturbance in his left eye for three years. The vision was CF/30cm. in his left eye and the optic nerve head was extremely atrophic. The eyeball was displaced infero-temporally. The exophthalmic value was 14mm. in right and 18mm. in left eye. On July 31, 1986, the left eyeball was exposed through Kroenlein method and the tumor mass was excised totally but the eyeball remained intact. The gross appearance of the tumor was large fusiform shape(3.5 X 2.0 X 1.8cm.) with well encapsulated grayish-white surface. The cut-section of the tumor revealed grayish-white solid area and hemorrhagic cystic area. The histopathologic slides showed that the tumor was composed of multiple pilocytic astrocytic cells in the solid area and in microcystic area. The cytoplasm of the tumor cells were bipolar spindle shape and the nucleus was uniform in general and there was no sign of mitotic figure. Numerous dense and amorphous eosinophilic materials so called "Rosenthal fibers" were also seen in the microcystic areas. Finally we have diagnosed this tumor as the Optic nerve glioma.

Journal of the Japan Society of Acupuncture and Moxibustion 2004;54(2):149-162
[Objective] The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of Joksamni (ST 36) combination on NADPH-diaphorase, neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS), neuropeptide Y (NPY) and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) in the cerebral cortex of spontaneously hypertensive rat.
[Methods] The experimental groups were divided into four groups : Normal, Joksamni (ST 36), Joksamni (ST 36) + Eumneungcheon (SP 9), and Joksamni (ST 36) + Gokji (LI 11). Needles were inserted into acupoints at the depth of 0.5 cm with basic insertion method. Electroacupuncture was done under the condition of 2 HZ electrical biphasic pulses with continuous rectangular wave lasting for 0.2 ms until the muscles produced visible contractions. Such stimulation was applied continuously for 10 minutes, 1 time every 2 days for 10 sessions of treatments. Thereafter we evaluated changes in NADPH-d positive neurons histochemically and changes in nNOS, NPY and VIP positive neurons immunohistochemically.
[Results] The optical densities of NADPH-d positive neurons of the Joksamni (ST 36) + Eumneungcheon (SP 9) group in all areas of cerebral cortex and Joksamni (ST 36) + Gokji (LI 11) group in primary somatosensory cortex, visual cortex, auditory cortex, perirhinal cortex were significantly increased as compared to the Joksamni (ST 36) group.
The optical densities of NADPH-d positive neurons of the Joksamni (ST 36) + Gokji (LI 11) group were sig-nificantly decreased as compared to the Joksamni (ST 36) + Eumneungcheon (SP 9) group with the exception of primary somatosensory cortex.
The optical densities of nNOS positive neurons of the Joksamni (ST 36) + Eumneungcheon (SP 9) group in all areas of cerebral cortex and Joksamni (ST 36) + Gokji (LI 11) group in auditory cortex, perirhinal cortex, insular cortex were significantly increased as compared to the Joksamni (ST 36) group. The optical densities of nNOS positive neurons of the Joksamni (ST 36) + Gokji (LI 11) group were significantly decreased in all areas of cerebral cortex as compared to the Joksamni (ST 36) + Eumneungcheon (SP 9) group.
The optical densities of NPY positive neurons of the Joksamni (ST 36) + Gokji (LI 11) group were signifi-cantly decreased in primary motor cortex, primary somatosensory cortex, cingulate cortex as compared to the Joksamni (ST 36) and Joksamni (ST 36) + Eumneungcheon (SP 9) groups.
The optical densities of VIP positive neurons of the Joksamni (ST 36) + Eumneungcheon (SP 9) group were significantly increased in all areas of cerebral cortex except f or cingulate cortex as compared to the Joksamni (ST 36) group. The optical densities of VIP positive neurons of the Joksamni (ST 36) + Gokji (LI 11) group were significantly decreased in auditory cortex, cingulate cortex, perirhinal cortex as compared to the Joksamni (ST 36) + Gokji (LIII) group were significantly decreased in all areas of cerebral cortex as compared to the Joksamni (ST 36) + Eumneungcheon (SP 9) group.
[Conclusions] The result demonstrated that electroacupuncture on Joksamni (ST 36) and its combination change the activities of the NO system and peptidergic system in the cerebral cortex of SHR and that acupoint combination is one of the important parameters for the effects.

The Journal of Korean Academy of Prosthodontics 1999;37(5):567-580
Accurate reproduction of intraoral tissue is essential in the fabrication of fixed prosthesis. This selection of impression material and method is very important. In this study, vinyl polysiloxane type impression material Panasil was used. Three impression methods ; one-step technique, individual tray technique, and individual tooth tray technique using the vinyl polysiloxane type bite registration material Futar Occlusion, were used to take horizontal and vertical impression. Improved stone models were fabricated. The amount of occlusal surface discrepaneies, interabutment distance discrepancies, amount of marginal defect were evaluated with the X-PLAN360d and photoscanning. The results were as follows. 1. There was no significant difference in occlusal surface according to the directions and techniques of impression taking. 2. There was no significant difference in interabutment distance discrepancies according to the directions and techniques of impression taking 3. There was no significant difference in marginal discrepancies according to the direction of impression taking but there was significant difference between one-step technique and individual tray technique, individual tooth tray technique (P<0.05). Taken together, these results suggest that individual tray technique and individual tooth tray technique are more accurate for impression taking than one-step technique.
