Since there is no report of daily walking activity of Korean, authors studied on normal adult daliy walking activity in korean of various kinds of occupation, personal life and patients. Total 134 cases were studied and in which there were 10 patients, 7 retired elderlies, 4 house wives, 48 employees of compaines, 30 nurses, 4 laboratory technicians, 2 pharmacists, 7 house staff doctors, 12 chief doctors, 4 cases of hicking and 6 cases of 18 holes golf players. The daily walking steps were measured with pedometer in 167 times in total and following results were, obtained. 1. Bed rest patients ; less than 1000 steps/day 2. Retired elderly ; 2,724(2,150-3,500) steps/day 3. House wife ; 5,437(3,030-7,920) steps/day 4. High ranking, old clerk and chief doctor ; 5,000-6,000 steps/day 5. PURPOSE: Spiculation pathologically correlated with irregular fibrosis, localized lymphatic spread of tumor, or an infiltrative growth pattern of tumor, and the spiculation was Observed in malignant mass. But the spiculation was also observed in benign mass, particularly in tuberculoma. We retrospectively reviewed the length of spiculation under the hypothesis that the length of spiculation could be one of differential diagnostic points between lung cancer and tuberculoma. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We studied thirty seven patients (27 men and 10 women) ranging in age from 35 to 80 years (mean, 60 years). Analysis of spiculation included (a) the number of spicules (b) the mean length of spicules (c) the mean length of the longest spicule (d) the percentage of the mean length of spicules to the longest diameter of mass (e) the percentage of the mean length of spicules to the shortest dia, meter of mass. RESULTS: The mean length of spicules of tuberculoma was 13.8 mm (S. D. 6.7) and that of lung cancer was 5.7 mm (S. D. 3.5). The percentage of the mean length of spicules to the longest diameter of tuberculoma was 63.6% and that of lung cancer was 13.7%. The percentage of the mean length of spicules to the shortest diameter of tuberculoma was 90.4% and that of lung cancer w~s 18.3%. CONCLUSION: It is hard to differentiate lung cancer from tuberculoma on the basis of the spiculation being present or not, but we suggest that the longer spiculation be more highly suggestive of tuberculoma rather than lung cancer. The length of spiculation may help us differentiate lung cancer from tuberculoma.

Fifteen women with symptomatic uterine myomas, diagnosed by clinical examination and confirmed by pelvic ultrasonography, were treated with intranasal insufflation of Nafarelin acetate, 200 micrograms, twice a day, for a total treatment period of 6 months. Treatment was evaluated with respect to subjective symptoms, changes in myoma size and uterine volume, variations in blood estradiol, FSH, LH and CA 125, and side effects. The following results were obtained: 1. All patients showed a marked reduction(p<0.001) in uterine volume. Before treatment volume measured 312.3+/-24.2cm3, after 12 weeks volume was 132.4+/-40.6cm3, and after 24 weeks it was 123.6+/-48.3cm3. 2. Blood estradiol and LH levels were decreased significantly(p<0.05) after treatment. The FSH level was decreased, but not significantly. 3. Blood CA 125 levels were increased 6 cases(40.0%) before treatment. The levels were normalized in all 6 cases after treatment. 4. Symptoms of uterine myoma disappeared or decreased. 5. Minor side effects, such as hot flushes, headache, general myalgia and fatigue, and vaginal dryness were encountered frequently although none necessitating discontinuation of treatment, These data suggest that Nafarelin acetate is useful for the treatment of uterine myoma. However, appropriate indications should be selected in the treatment of uterine myoma because the possible regrowth of uterine myoma after treatment limits the use of GnRH agonist.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the diagnostic availability of the morphology of mitochondria to identify the nature or the origin of neoplasms. MATRIALS AND METHODS: We analysed two cases of ovarian malignancy- a case of malignant steroid cell tumor, unclassified and a case of metastatic carcinosarcoma from the adrenal cortex- which were difficult to identify the origin and the nature of the tumor for special staining, immunohistochemical and ultrastructural methods. RESULTS: To evaluate the nature or the origin of neoplasms, we performed immuno histochemistry for various antigens and special stains, however the specific diagnostic clues were not provided by these modalities. The ultrastructural characteristics of mitochondria of neoplastic cells showing tubular or tubulo-vesicular inner mitochondrial membranes provided diagnostic clues as a marker for steroidogenic potential. The morphology of mitochondria is related to the enzyme activity and steroid-biosynthetic capacity of cells. Especially, the inner mitochondrial membrane structure is believed to be related to the steroid biosynthetic activity. In hypofunctional state of corticosteroid productian, a reduced number of inner mitochondrial membranes showing tubular patterns is noted. In cantrast, the stimulation of steroidogenesis result in a progressive increase of mitochondrial membrane showing densely packed rounded vesicular patterns via tubulo-vesicular patterns according to the activity of steroidogenesis. CONCLUSION: The tubular, the vesicular and the tubulo-vesicular mitochondria will be valuable to identify the uncertainty of nature and origin of tumor as a stemidogenic.
