Two cases of cutaneous sporotrichosis, especially one of which was verrucous type in baby aged 4 months, were described. Throush the literatures the verrucous manifestation in baby was not yet reported. It is known that verrucous sporotrichosis is to be developed in individual who has had local and general resistance obtained by the previous cutaneous infection or by the infection of internal organ. But no such evidences were noticed in our case.

A case of 24 years old male with perifolliculitis capitis abscedens et suffodiens was reported This is, I presume the first case to be reparted in Korea. Clinically, the skin lesions were characterized by tbe multiple confluented indolent abscesses and hypertrophic scars which were developed on the vertex. On these lesions, there were also noticed complete alopecia and several dilated hair follicle orifices plugged by keratinous materials. The regional lymphnodes were not enlarged and the abscesses were proved bacteriologically sterile.

Ceftizoxime sodium is a new synthetic β-lactam antibiotic combining potent antibacterial activity with high stability to a wide range of bacterial β-lactamase. This experiment was achieved to evaluate the antibacterial activities of ceftizoxime sodium against. Gram negative enteric bacteria isolated from in outpatient visiting Yeungnam university hospital and to study the emergence of drug induced bacterial variants which resist to ceftizoxime in vitro. The antibacterial activity of the ceftizoxime was compared with that of antibiotics and its effect on population of normal intestinal flora in mice was observed. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Highly effective antibacterial activity of ceftizoxime against Gram negative enteric bacilli was demonstrated and this antibacterial activity was superior to that of ampicillin. 2. Several test strains shows multiple antibiotic resistance. Among 15 strains of Escherichia coli, 1 strain was resistant to ampicillin, cefadroxil, gentamicin, tetracycline, and 2 strains were resistant to ampicillin, cefadroxil, tetracycline, five strains of Escherichia coli and Enterobacter cloacae was resistant to ampicillin, tetracycline and Shigella dysenteriae was resistant to ampicillin, gentamicin, tetracycline. 3. The frequency of in vitro emergence of resistant variants among ceftizoxime sensitive bacteria in the presence of increasing concentrations of the compound was found to be low. 4. Plasmid was isolated in 6 of 9 strains (6 strains of Escherichia coli, Shigella dysenteriae, Enterobacter cloacae and Salmonella typhi). That showed different antibiotic resistance. They were 5 strains of Escherichia coli and 1 strain of Shigella dysenteriae. However, plasmid could not be considered as a hallmark for antibiotic resistance by this Further studies with curing experiment are to be accomplished for this purpose. 5. Changes in the bacterial count of normal intestinal flora following 25 mg/kg/day administration of ceftizoxime over 5 consecutive days were not significant. In conclusion, ceftizoxime appeared to be a drug of choice in the treatment of Gram negative enteric bacilli infection.

We present a case of nucleus caudalis DREZ operation for medically refractory facial pain due to invasive sarcoma in skull base. The patient showed excellent pain relief immediately after the operation. Until 5 month later, the pain was less than before surgery. At the point of view of pain characteristics and distribution, it was considered the trigemino-vago-glossopharyngeal neuralgia. It is suggested that the nucleus caudalis DREZ operation is effective in treating medically refractory facial pain due to invasive sarcoma in skull base.

Although there are various methods of operative treatment for hony mallet finger, the operative technique is not so easy and complications such as joint stiffness, sott tissue prohlems, infection, change of nail shape and arthrosis are common. The authors performed operations for 26 cases of hony mallet fingers, fixing the hony frapment by Kirschner wire, pull-out wire suture and miniscrew respectively, from Jan. l988 to Jun. l996. The results were as follows. l. According to Niechajev's classification. there were 3 cases of type B, 7 cases of type C, l4 cases of type D, and 2 cases of type E. And 11 cases were accompanied hy crushing injury. 2. Involved fingers were third finger in 11cases, fit'th finger in 7 cases, fourth finger in 5 cases, second finger in 2 cases. and thumb in I case. 3. The hony mallet finger was caused hy occupational injury in l6 cases, direct blow in 7 cases and sports injury in 3 cases. 4. The fractured fragment was fixed hy Kirschner wire in 9 cases, by pull-out suture in 9 cases and by miniscrew in 8 cases. 5. The results were evaluated hy Kanies scale. Sixteen cases had satisfactory results. Seven cases (87.5%) were satisfactory in miniscrew fixations. 5 cascs (55.6%) in pull-out wire suture methocls and 2 cases (22.2%) in Kirschner wire tixations. 6. The complications were joint incongruity in 4 cases, dorsal prominece in 6 cases, painful limitation of motion in 2 cases which were treated by arthrodesis, pin site infection in 2 cases and hreakage of wire suture in 1 case. 7. The miniscrew fixation offered relatively firm fixation, low complication rate, and good results. so it can be considered as one of the good methods of treatment for hony mallet finger.

Visualization of falx cerebri on non-enhanced CT of children with severe head injuries (the falx sign) has been regarded as an evidence of subarachnoid hemorrhage. On the contrary, other authors have reported reverse results. To evaluate clinical significance of the falx sign, authors studied frequency of visualization and CT number of falx cerebri and dural sinuses in 65 children with head injury and 65 children without head injury examined by cranial CT at the Dep. of Radiology, St. Paul's Hospital, Catholic Medical College from March to Sept. 1981. All patients with head trauma were studied within 1 week of the traumatic event. Visualization of falx cerebri was observed at slice in the region of lateral ventricle and slice near to vertex respectively. On the slice in the region of lateral ventricle, falx cerebri was identified in 82% of all of the children examined, of which 92%showed partial visualization of falx cerebri and remaining 8% totally. On the slice near to vertex, falx cerebri was identified in 92% of all the children examined, of which 38% showed partial visualization of falx cerebri and remaining 62% totally. In head trauma group, frequency of visualization of falx cerebri was 78% on the slice in the region of lateral ventricle and 89% on the slice near to vertex; in non-traumatic group, frequency of visualization of falx cerebri was 86% and 94% respectively. The highest numerical value of the falx densities averaged 47 Hounflieds (range, 32-63) in non-traumataic group, averaged 49 Housfields (range, 32-69) in head trauma group. All or a portion of the superior sagittal sinus was visualized in 59% of all of the cases studied, 50% in head trauma group, and 69% in nontraumatic group. The straight sinus was identified in 45% of all of the cases studied, 39% in head trauma group, and 51% in non-traumatic group. In conclusion, there was no distinction between head trauma and non-traumatic group in visualization of falx cerebri and dural sinuses, and we could frequently identify the falx density in normal. Also we could find that frequency for visualization of falx cerebri and drual sinuses increased as the age increased.

Congenital hypertrophic pyloric stenosis is the most common intra-abdominal disease required surgery during the first few months of life. The expression of pyloric stenosis is dependent upon the genetic influence of ancestors affected with the disease, as well as unknown environmental influences in the postnatal period. Pyloric stenosis has been reported in multiple sibs in a family, which suggests the genetic influence on the expression of this disease. Until now, the genetic influence is thought a sex-modified polygenic or multifactorial background which facilitates the expression of a common dominant gene. We experienced a case of congenital hypertrophic pyloric stenosis in a two siblings. The siblings suffered projectile vomiting for 2~4 days at 16 days old of age and 15 days old of age. After we confirmed the diagnosis by upper gastrointestinal series and abdominal sonogram, the Fredet-Ramstedt pyloromyotomy was done successfully. This case suggests the genetic influence on the expression of this disease.

Purpose: There are a variety of techniques for treating chronic prostatitis. Regardless of the presence of infections, antibiotics were arbitrarily prescribed for 4-12 weeks, but there seemed to be ongoing debate of their effectiveness and side effects. Uro-vaxom(R) is known as an effective treatment for urinary tract infection due to its initiation the urothelial immune system activity. This study was performed to investigate for the possibility of Uro-vaxom(R) as a drug for use in non-inflammatory chronic prostatitis. Materials and Methods: 95 patients, diagnosed as chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS) (National Institutes of Health (NIH)-category IIIB), were divided into three groups: group A, 35 patients were given levofloxacin 100mg TID and Uro-vaxom(R) 60mg OD for the first 4 weeks, followed by only Uro-vaxom(R) 60mg OD for the next 8 weeks; group B, 30 patients were given only Uro-vaxom(R) 60mg OD before breakfast for 12 weeks; group C, the patients were treated with levofloxacin 100mg TID for 4 weeks. All the patients were reevaluated 4 weeks and 12 weeks later. Results: The initial diagnostic stati, the NIH-Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index (CPSI) were 25.1+/-2.7, 24.4+/-3.2 and 24.7+/-2.2 for groups A, B and C, respectively. In groups A and B, the NIH-CPSI after 12 weeks were 13.5 2.3 and 13.9+/-2.7, respectively, and showed noticeable improvements (p<0.05). In group C, the NIH-CPSI was 15.7+/-3.4, which was less improved compared to groups A and B (p>0.05). No patients experienced any adverse symptoms due to Uro-vaxom(R) intake. Conclusions: Uro-vaxom(R) could be appointed as an alternative method for the treatment of chronic prostatitis.
