1.Relation of internal echo patterns and hemodynamics by incremental dynamic CT in hepatic cavernous hemangioma.

To evaluate the correlation between the internal echo patterns and henodynamics in hepatic cavernous hemangioma, we compared the interanal echo pattern with the hemodynamic pattern examined by intravenous bolus CT(multi-phase incremental bolus dynamic CT) in 34 diagnosed hemangiomas (25 patients). We classified cavernous hemangiomas as two different hemodynamic patterns according to the findings of the early phase of intravenous bolus CT scans. Early enhancing type means that most portion of a mass is enhanced during the early hpase and late enhancing type means that only minimal peripheral portion of a mass is enhanced during the early phase. We classified ultrasonogrphic patterns as hypoechoic and hyperechoic according to main echogenicity of the mass. The late enhancing type tends toward the high echo type (20/21) and the early enhancing type tends to ward the low echo type (11/13) (p<0.01) Therefore, we believe that the early enhancing type which represents rapid contrast inflow toward mass, contains large portions of cavernous space and showes hypoechoic, but late enhancing type which represents late contrast inflow toward a mass, contains large portions of fibrous space and showes hyperechoic. In conclusion, there was significant correlation between internal hemodynamics and echo patterns in hepatic cavernous hemangioma.

4.Agenesis of the right lobe of liver: a case report.

Congenital agenesis of the right lobe of liver is a rare anomaly and only 33 cases have been reported. CT showed absence of the right lobe of liver and compensatory hypertrophy of the other lobe. We report the CT findings of a new case of this anomaly with a review of the literatures.

5.Analysis of branching patterns of middle hepatic artery using A-P and oblique view hepatic angiography.

A study on branching patterns of middle hepatic artery was performed in 109 patients with A-P and oblique view hepatic angiogram, which refered to size and location of quadrate lobe in CT and SMA portography We could analyze the branching patterns of middle hepatic artery (MHA) in 100 among the 109 patients. MHA arising as a first branch of left hepatic artery was the most common pattern (50%), and MHA arising from proper hepatic artery separately one from left hepatic artery was the next common pattern (35%). MHA originating from left gastric artery, or from anterior or posterior of the right hepatic artery was seen. MHA WAS not found as an accessory or replaced artery except as replaced common hepatic artery.

6.Meaurement of the Muscle Fatigue Patterns using Electromyography Technique.

Injuries and pains of musculoskeletal joint in human body is common onset in industrialized world. However, muscle fatigue plays a very significant role in contributing causes of many pains associated with musculoskeletal joints. Based on this hypothesis, degree of muscle fatigue was investigated using electromyography measurement technique during isometric and concentric/eccentric muscle contractions. Different response of the muscle fatigue between two different muscle contractions (isometric and concentric/eccentric contractions) was examined by comparison of parameters which were median frequency, median power and RMS value. Healthy 16 young persons without previous musculoskeletal diesease history were tested with Noraxon Myosystem 2000 EMG measurement system. In this study, two different exercises were performed. First exercise was concentric/eccentric exercise. Second exercise was isometric muscle contraction. In the case of the isometric exercise, median frequency was decreased, but median power and RMS were increased. However, during the concentric/eccentric exercse, median frequency was increased, but median power and RMS were decreased. Both of those revealed that the pattern of the median frequency was W type, but median power and RMS were M type as time passed. In this study, the patterns of the muscle fatigue during concentric/eccentric exercise as well as isometric exercise were identified. It will be helpful to prevent musculoskeletal injury from over-working andexercising.

8.An Experimental study of Silastic Cuff Shielding Around Peripheral Nerve Anastomosis

The main problem in peripheral nerve repair is adhesion, axonal escape, and the ingrowth of extraneurial tissue into the wound. Meticulous microsurgical neurorrhaphy is one of possible answer for these problem. Shielding of nerve suture is another attractive practice. But the results are still unpredictable. We compared the results of nerve repair between microsurgical epineurial neurorrhaphy plus silastic cuff shielding group and epineurial neurorrhaphy group in the sciatic nerve of white rat. The reasults we obtained are as follows; 1. Silastic cuff shielding method was effective for reducing abnormal neurial growth and neuroma formation into the surrounding soft tissue. 2. Some adhesion was formed over the silastic cuff, but there was no adhesion at the inner space of the cuff. 3. Silastic cuff could prevent fibrous tissue ingrowth into the nerve. 4. The slit of the silastic cuff provided vascular ingrowth between surrounding connective tissue and nerve tissue. 5. No evidence of foreign body reaction was observed in and out of the silastic cuff. 6. Nerve conduction test showed a little supperior results in the silastic cuff shielding group. Silastic cuff shielding method in nerve suture might be recommanded to prevent axonal escape, fibrous scar tissue ingrowth to the nerve, and fibrous adhesion in clinical practice. But, it seemed that the final evaluation of the functional recovery of the nerve needed long term follow-up and nerve conduction study.

10.Magnetic Resonence Imaging of Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Connections.

PURPOSE: We evaluated the capability of MR in the diagnosis of anomalous pulmonary venous connection (APVC). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The patient group consisted of 11 total APVC and 8 partial APVC diagnosed with MR. Echocardiography was performed in all cases, cardiac angiography in 12 cases and operation in 12 cases. We compared MR findings with those of operation, echocard iography and cardiac angiography. RESULTS: In surgically proven 12 cases, diagnostic accuracy of preoperative MR, echocardiography and cardiac angiography was 100%, 67% and 63%, respectively. In the remaining cases, MR findings well correlated with those of echocardiography or cardiac angiography. Stenosis of common pulmonary vein or superior vena cava was identified in 4 cases. In one patient, MR depicted associated cor triatriatum clearly. CONCLUSION: MR is an effective modallty in depicting anomalous pulmonary venous con nections.
