1.Molecular Cloning of Human 14-3-3 cDNA with CD3 Zeta Peptide Containing Phosphosering Tag.

14-3-3 proteins are highly conserved proteins of about 29 kDa and have a minimum of seven isoforms. 14- 3-3 proteins interact with many signalling proteins by the recognition of phosphoserine. For the identification of proteins which react with ITAM (immunoreceptor tyrosine-based activation motif) of CD3 zeta chain, labeled synthetic peptides representing the CD3 zeta chain structual motifs (ITAMs) with a tag of PKC substrate sequence were used for western blotting. One major protein band of approximately 29 kDa was identified in lysate of Jurkat T cell, B cells and HeLa cells. Screening of lamda gt 11 library derived from HeLa cell gave two clones of 14-3-3 protein cDNA. Inspection of their nucleotide sequences identified these two full length cDNA clones as the 29 kDa human homologue of rat 14-3-3 gamma and the human 14-3-3 zeta protein. The human 14-3-3 gamma isoform also showed high homology with other species in amino acid and nucleotide sequence. Although 14-3-3 proteins are phosphoserine-binding proteins, there may be another way of interaction between ITAMs of CD3 and 14-3-3 proteins.

3.Prevalence of Penicillinase-Producing Neisseria Gonorrhoeae (PPNG) in Seoul (1995).

BACKGROUND: In recent years gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases(STD) in the world, especially in developing countries. OBJECTIVE & METHOD: For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and to assess the prevalence of penicillinase-producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae (PPNG), we have been studying patients who have visited the VD Clinic of Choong-ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. RESULTS: In 1995, 97 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 41(42.3%) were PPNG. CONCLUSION: Since the prevalence of PPNG was reported as 21.9% in 1981, the rate fluctuated. However, in 1993, there was an increase up to 74.3%. Thereafter, the prevalence rate decreased to 64.3% in 1994 and 42.3% in 1995. These changes will therefore need continuous observation.

6.Acute cerebral infarction following aconitine ingestion

Aconitine is a main component of Aconitum carmichaeli, a Chinese herb known to be effective for
arthritis and neuralgia. Many senior citizens consume the herb as a folk remedy. Aconitine-associated
cardiogenic toxicity has been observed but aconitine-induced cerebrovascular event has not been
reported so far. We report two elderly patients who became unconscious and showed neurological
dysfunction soon after ingesting aconitine for pain control. We speculate that the aconitine induced
cardiac arrhythmia. This resulted in cardiogenic emboli formation with subsequent large territory
cerebral infarction.

7.The Morphologic Study of he Superficial Palmar Arch in Korean

The superficial palmar arch of the hand is formed by the anastomosis of the palmar branch of the radial artery and the distal part of the ulnar artery. The variation of the superficial palmar arch and its branches have been known to occur frequently. There are many reports about the formation of the arch and the branches of it and the incidence of the median artery. These variations of the arch are considerablly valuable in the surgical management of the hand injuries, especially in vascular injury. This study deals with the Korean hands. The author observed the pattern of the superficial palmar arch, the presence of the median artery and the pattern of the common palmar digital arteries and the results are as followings; 1. The superficial palmar arch was complete type in 97.2% and incomplete type in 2.8%, The majority of the complete arch was type 1 and type 2. 2. The median artery was present in 2.8%. 3. The common palmar digital artery was present as type 1 in 65.3% type 2 in 13.9% type 3 in 4.2%, type 4 in 5.5%, type 5 in 6.9% and type 7 in 1.4%.

10.Clinical Study of Clavicle Fractures

A clinical study of 147 clavicle fracture patients (one patient had bilateral fractures) who were admitted and treated by the Department of orthopedic surgery of Wonju Christian Hospital, Wonju Medical College, Yon Sei University. The period covered was from September 1974 to August 1981, a total of seven years. The study focused on three fertors in relation to the pain and limitation of motion and these causes were comminution of fracture, shortening of the clavicle length and external deformity. The results were as followings; l. Of the 148 cases, 125 were male and 22 female (one with bilateral fractures). The majority were between 31 and 40 years of age. 2. The mid 1/3 fracture was most common and both sides showed no difference in incidence(left ; 73 cases, right; 75 cases). 3. The mean follow up ranged from 4 months to H3 months with a mean 49.5 months. 4. The complications resulting from comminution, shortening of clavicle length and malunion were shoulder joint pain-16 cases (10.8%), limitation of motion-17 cases(11.5%) and external deformity-18 cases(12.9%). 5. Using a rating scale of excellent(no apparent factors), good( one factor), fair(two factors), poor(more than three factors) the results showed, 106 excellent, 31 good, 9 fair and 2 poor. 6. On a percentage scale, the pain showed difference of 9 times with initial comminution, 7 times with shortening of clavicle length and 7 times with deformity. 8. On a percentage scale, the limitation of motion of shoulder joint showed difference of 6 times with initial comminution, 6 times with shortening of clavicle length and 17 times with deformity.
