To evaluate the effects of Dexamethasone(Dex), Platelet derived growth factor-BB(PDGF) and combination of Dex and PDGF(DP) on the growth and differentiation of MC3T3-E1 cells, Dex(10(-7) M) and PDGF(10 ng/ml) in experimental group were added to the cells at the days 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and examined for cell proliferation activities, DNA synthesis activities, ALP activities and bone nodule formation. The results were as follows : 1.In Dex group, cell proliferation, DNA synthesis and ALP activities were lower until 15 days when compared to the control group. Bone nodules formation were shown at 10 days. 2.In PDGF group, cell proliferation and DNA synthesis activities were higher until 15 days and ALP activities were lower when compared to the control and Dex groups. Bone nodules formation were shown at 20 days. 3.In DP group, cell proliferation and DNA synthesis activities of PDGF were suppressed by Dex and synergistic effects of combination of Dex and PDGF on ALP activities were shown at days 5 when compared to control and Dex groups. Bone nodules formation activities of Dex were suppressed by PDGF.

One of the complication during or after subclavian vein cannulation is intravascular catheter or wire embolization. Although some studies have reported safety of retaining foreign body embolization, and even death. The intravascular foreign body can be removed surgically or non-surgically. With improvement in instrument technology and technique, percutaneous retrieval of intravascular foreign bodies has become a relatively common procedure. Commonly used methods to remove intravascular foreign bodies are loop snare and basket technique. Sometimes biopy forcep can be used. We have experienced 2 cases of non-surgical removal of intravascular foreign bodies. One of the foreign bodies was 7cm wire fragment in right atrium(RA), the other was a 50cm guide wire. We used the standard loop snare technique for removal of 7cm wire fragment in RA and stone removal basket and 3.0mm ACS PTCA balloon to remove the 50cm short guide wire.

Journal of the Korean Society of Coloproctology 2011;27(2):99-101
We present a rare case of adult intussusception due to cecal lymphangioma. A 30-year-old female was admitted to our hospital with abdominal pain and a palpatable mass on the right lower quadrant. Preoperative radiologic studies by ultrasound and computed tomography showed ileocolic intussusception with a multiseptated cystic tumor as a leading point on the cecum. An ileocecectomy was performed, and the postoperative course was uneventful. Histopathology showed a cecal lymphangioma. Although endoscopic polypectomy or endoscopic mucosal resection is recommended for pedunculated or semi-pedunculated colonic lymphangiomas less than 2 cm in size, it is proper to treat large or symptomatic colonic lymphangiomas with limited a bowel resection or a tumor resection.

Journal of the Korean Society of Coloproctology 2003;19(3):170-176
Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) is an autosomal dominant disease characterized by formation of multiple colorectal adenomas with nearly 100 percent potential for malignant transformation. FAP is a rare condition with an incidence of 1 in 10,000 live births. Germline mutations in the adenomatous polyposis coli gene (APC) located on chromosome 5q21 have been founded in many patients with FAP. Patients with FAP can have extracolonic manifestations of their disease. These include tumors of the upper gastrointestinal tract (hamartomatous polyps, adenomas, carcinomas), small intestine adenomas or cacinoma, bile duct adenomas, papillary thyroid carcinoma, osteomas of the mandible, skull, and long bones, a variety of soft tissue lesions, including fibromas, lipomas, and desmoid tumors, congenital hypertrophy of the retinal pigment epithelium (CHRPE) and hepatoblastoma. Hepatocellular carcinoma combined with FAP is a very rare condition. Just 8 cases of Hepatocellular carcinoma with a history of FAP have been reported in the literature. We now present a report of a case of Hepatocellular carcinoma with FAP (Gardner's syndrome) in a 19 year-old girl.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to compare the accuracy of the implant master cast according to the type (pick-up, transfer) and the length (long, short) of the impression copings. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The metal master cast was fabricated with three internal connection type implant analogs (Osstem GS III analog), embedded parallel and with 10degrees of mesial angulation to the center analog. Four types of impression coping were prepared with different combinations of types (transfer, pick-up) and lengths (long, short) of the coping. The impressions were made using vinyl polysiloxane (one step, heavy + light body) with an individual tray, and 10 impressions were made for each group. Eventually, 40 experimental casts were produced. Then, the difference in the distance between the master cast and the experimental cast were measured, and the error rate was determined. The analysis of variance was performed using the SPSS (v 12.0) program (alpha = .05), and the statistical significance was set at P < .05. RESULTS: The ANOVA showed that the pick-up type impression coping exhibited a significantly lower error rate than the transfer type. However, no significant difference was observed with respect to the length of the impression coping. Additionally, no significant difference was observed between the parallel and mesial angulated groups. CONCLUSION: Within the limitations of this study, the pick-up type impression coping exhibited a more accurate implant master cast than the transfer type in parallel group. The accuracy of the implant master cast did not differ for different lengths of impression coping of at least 11 mm. Additionally, the accuracy of the implant cast was not different for the parallel and 10degrees mesial angulated groups.

Journal of the Korean Surgical Society 2007;72(4):302-306
PURPOSE: Appendicitis is the most common abdominal surgical emergency. The diagnosis of appendicitis can be difficult, occasionally taxing the diagnostic skills of even the most experienced surgeon, and especially for diagnosing reproductive women. This study was designed to evaluate the various pathologies of the appendix and the other intraabdominal organs in patients who were preoperatively diagnosed with acute appendicitis, and we wanted to analyze the difference of the perioperative results between the reproductive women and the other patients. METHODS: The study was a retrospective analysis of 1,108 appendectomies that were performed from September 2003 to August 2006. The data were analyzed for the following parameters: the age-related and sex-related incidence of acute appendicitis, the rates of negative appendectomy, negative operation and appendicular perforation, and the incidence of other encountered pathologies. In addition, we present the clinical results of the reproductive women. RESULTS: The diagnostic accuracy for acute appendicitis was 87.2%. The negative appendectomy rate was 11.6% and it was significantly higher (20.8%) in the reproductive women than in the male patients of the same age (P=0.001). On the clinical analyses of the reproductive aged appendicitis group showed they a shorter pain duration and a higher WBC count, and more frequent epigastric discomfort, nausea, vomiting and RLQ tenderness (P< 0.05). CONCLUSION: We noted a high rate of negative appendectomy among reproductive female patients, so more care should be taken to diagnose these patients.
