Epithelioid sarcoma(ES) is a very rare, unique soft tissue sarcoma, which was first fully described by Enzinger in 1970. The tumor chiefly occurs in young adults and affects the soft tissue of the distal extremity. A 46-year-old male patient had slowly growing masses on his left plantar surface, which were diagnosed as ES and mass excision and radiation therapy were done. Eight months later, about 1 × 1 cm sized, well defined multiple erythematous nodules on his scalp were discovered. Although he was treated with chemotherapy, no improvement was gained.

The advent of the global pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) necessitates a thorough study of the stability and transmissibility in the environment. We characterized the stability of SARS-CoV-2 in three water matrices: fresh, tap, and seawater. The minimum infective dose of SARS-CoV-2 in Vero cells was confirmed to be 10 3 PFU/mL. The stability of SARS-CoV-2 varied according to the water matrix: infective SARSCoV-2 was undetectable after treatment with fresh water and seawater, but remained detectable for 2 days in tap water, when starting with an initial concentration of 10 4 PFU/mL. When the starting concentration was increased to 10 5 PFU/mL, a similar trend was observed. In addition, viral RNA persisted longer than infectious virus in all water matrices. This study was conducted in stagnant water containing a significantly high titer of virus, thus, human-to-human transmission of SARS-CoV-2 through the actual aquatic environment is expected to be rare.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the prevalence of the opacification of paranasal sinuses and to correlate the prevalence and severity of the sinus opacification with presence of upper respiratory infection (URI) in infants and children using CT. MATERIALS & METHODS: We analyzed CT scans of 162 children aged under 16 who have no signs and symptoms of paranasal sinusitis. Both sides of maxillary and ethmoidal sinuses were evaluated. We scored from 0 to 3 according to the degree of soft tissue opacification of each sinus and then summed up the scores of each sinus. We divided the children into 5 groups according to their age. We paid particular attention to the following respects: 1) the prevalence of the opacification of the paranasal sinuses in each group; 2) the difference in the prevalence between the children with and without URI ;3) the correlation between the severity of the sinus opacification and the presence of URI. RESULTS: Of 162 children, one or more paranasal sinus opacification was noted in 76(47 %):31(65%) less than 1 year old;11(52%) between 1 and 2 years old;16(53%) between 2 and 6 years old ;15(28%) between 6 and 12 years old;and 3(33%) above 12 years old. In children less than 1 year old, no significant difference in the prevalence of the sinus opacification was found between URI-positive(71%) and URI-negative(58%) subgroups. In chilren between 1 and 12 years old, although the prevalence of the sinus opacification in URI-positive subgroups was much greater than that in URI-negative subgroup, statistically significant difference was noted only in children between 2 and 6 years old. As to the correlation between the severity of the sinus opacification and the presence of URI, these was a statistically significant difference in children between 2 and 6 years old and between 6 and 12 years old. CONCLUSION: Although the exact pathophysiology is not fully understood, the opacification of the paranasal sinuses is not an uncommon finding at CT in children without the signs and symptoms of sinusitis. We think that the clinical correlation is essential in determining the diagnosis and treatment plan in cases that the sinus radiographs or CT scans show the abnormal findings.

A 46-year-old male patient developed jaundice after 23 days' treatment of propylthiouracil (PTU) for Graves' disease. Serum alkaline phosphatase was elevated markedly with moderate increase in serum aminotransferase, and the peak level of total bilirubin was 7.3 mg/dL. After withdrawal of PTU, serum aminotransferase and bilirubin began to decrease simultaneously, and completely normalized. One week after the discharge from hospital, he received radioiodine treatment for Graves' disease, but he showed aggravation of hyperthyroidism and ophthalmopathy. So we prescribed methimazole inevitably 16 days' after the radiodiodine treatment. He developed jaundice again after 69 days' treatment of methimazole, but the pattern of hepatotoxicity was slightly different from that of the previous PTU-nduced hepatotoxicity. Serum aminotransferase increased slightly and quickly normalized after discontinuance of methimazole, but serum total bilirubin increased continuously and reached to 24.6 mg/dL. Eosinophilia was prominent and the result of liver biopsy was compatible with cholestatic jaundice. The patient was treated with prednisolone and recovered from jaundice rapidly.

Staphylococcal toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is a severe systemic illness caused by toxins produced by Staphylococcus aureus. We report a case of staphylococcal TSS in a 16 month-old boy who presented with high fever, vomiting, skin rash, and shock after a burn injury. He was managed with intravenous vancomycin, fresh frozen plasma, and intravenous immunoglobulin. Methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) was isolated from the burn wound site and anterior nostril of the patient. In addition, the MRSA isolate was genetically characterized.
