Journal of the Korean Society of Biological Psychiatry 2015;22(1):7-13
OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to examine the psychiatric characteristics of outpatients with tinnitus. METHODS: A total of 88 subjects were included in this study. According to Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) scores, the subjects were classified into two group ; a mild tinnitus symptoms (mild-tinnitus) group and a severe tinnitus symptoms (severe-tinnitus) group. A questionnaire was used for an assessment of demographic characteristics, and the THI, the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) about tinnitus, the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) are applied for evaluation of other clinical psychiatric characteristics. RESULTS: Higher THI scores were positively correlated with tinnitus course, the number of accompanying symptoms, and the VAS. BDI total scores, BDI factors, and BAI total scores were significantly higher in the severe-tinnitus group than in the mild-tinnitus group. Also suicidal ideation, interpersonal problems, sleep problems, occupational impairment, and fatigue were significantly higher in the severe-tinnitus group than in the mild-tinnitus group. CONCLUSIONS: Tinnitus is a common disorder of hearing which is associated frequently with psychiatric problems. This study suggests that psychiatric interventions should be taken into consideration in the treatment of patients suffering from tinnitus.

Korean Journal of Clinical Microbiology 2003;6(2):156-159
BACKGROUND: Helicobacter pylori is the single most common pathogen that causes chronic bacterial infection in human. The authors designed a new type of urease detection method (Asan Helicobacter test) that can be used for rapid early detection of H. pylori as well as a transport medium. This medium has a strong acidity with a minimal concentration of urea for the purpose of the detection of H. pylori. The current study was to evaluate the bacteriological and clinical usefulness of this medium. METHOD: 252 antral biopsies from patients underwent upper gastrointestinal endoscopies in Inha University Hospital were inserted Asan Helicobacter Test and CLO test. 37 antral biopsies from patients underwent upper gastrointestinal endoscopies in Konyang University Hospital were inserted Asan Helicobacter Test. Biopsies were cultured on nonselective media only. RESULT: The sensitivity and specificity of the Asan Helicobacter test were comparable with the CLO test (88.0% and 94.0%, respectively), and the results agreed in 99.2% of 252 cases with the CLO test. With this transport medium, all 23 specimens that showed positive reaction among 37 patients yielded satisfactory isolation of H. pylori. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that the reagent in the kit inhibit the growth of microbial contaminant due to low pH and do not suppresses growth of H. pylori due to low concentration of urea. This kit may be used as a transport medium as well as a rapid urease test for H. pylori.

Korean Journal of Perinatology 2007;18(3):292-297
Moyamoya disease is a rare progressive cerebrovascular disorder caused by blocked arteries at the base of the brain in an area called the basal ganglia. The etiology and pathogenesis are unknown. Clinically, this disease is found with a higher incidence in young female, but there are few cases of moyamoya disease in pregnancy. The disease primarily affects children, but it can also occur in adults. in children. The first symptom of moyamoya disease is often stroke, or recurrent transient ischemic attack, frequently accompanied by muscular weakness or paralysis affecting one side of the body, or seizures. Adults most often experience a hemorrhagic stroke due to recurring blood clots in the affected brain vessels. The diagnosis of moyamoya disease is made on the basis of angiographic findings and threatment of Moyamoya disease is surgery, or conservative management. We report a case of moyamoya disease that presented as intracerebral hemorrhage and intraventricular hemorrhage during pregnancy complicating severe preeclampsia.

Journal of Korean Neuropsychiatric Association 2014;53(1):54-57
Gender dysphoria is very rare, but has frequent psychiatric comorbidity. In addition, risk of suicide is higher in patients with gender dysphoria than for the general population. Treatment of gender dysphoria is not determined, and more aggressive treatment is required for patients with suicidal ideation. No case involving electroconvulsive therapy of a gender dysphoria patient has been reported in South Korea. We discuss a 24 year-old man given electroconvulsive therapy for gender dysphoria with severe mood dysregulation and suicidal ideation.

Journal of Rhinology 2001;8(1, 2):69-72
A button battery in the nose of children is an unusual foreign body, which can cause liquefaction necrosis with subsequent severe local tissue destruction. All button batteries as foreign bodies in the nasal cavity should be removed immediately to prevent severe local tissue damage, resulting in late sequelae, such as septal perforation or stenosis of the nasal meatus. We present two cases of nasal septal perforation followed by button battery foreign body and discuss the special aspects of this foreign body.

In this study, high frequency oscillatory ventilator was designed and constructed. Using designed by phase-lock loop system, in order to accurately and easily treat both the outlet volume and rpm. A system has been designed and is being evaluated using CD4046A PLL IC. We use this PLL IC for the purpose of motor controls. The device consists of PLL system, pumping mechanism, piston, cylinder, and special crank shaft are required. This system characteristics were as follows: 1) Frequency: 20-1800 rpm 2) Outlet air volume: 1-50 cc
