1.A Study on the Design of High-Frequency Jet Ventilator Using PLL system.
Yeungnam University Journal of Medicine 1989;6(2):63-70
This paper describes to design and to examine the mechanical characteristics of high frequency jet ventilator. The device consists of Phase lock loop (PLL) system, solenoid valve driving control part and Air regulating system. This study is carried out by changing several factors such as endotracheal tube (E.T. tube) diameter, injector cannula diameter, 1%, and frequency (breaths/min.) having direct effects on the gas exchange as well as parameters of the entrained gas by venturi effect, so as to measure the tidal volume and minute volume. This system characteristics were as follows: 1) Frequency: 6-594 bpm 2) Inspiration time: 1-99% 3) Variance of input air pressure: 1-30 PSI

Korean Journal of Pathology 1996;30(1):23-31
The author examined expression of tumor-related antigens, such as p53 tumor supressor protein, c-myc, TGF-alpha, and TGF-beta proteins in 75 cases of surgically resected epithelial ovarian tumors. Peroxidase immunohistochemistry was used to determine the frequency of expression, the relationship among expression of these antigens and histopathological spectrums, and clinical stage, and their potential prognostic significance. The results are summarized as follows. A positive correlation was found between expression of p53(P=0.02), c-myc(P=0.03), and TGF-alpha(P=0.001) and histological degrees of malignancy(benign, borderline, or malignant) in epithelial ovarian tumors. A significant correlation was found between expression of p53 and histological degrees of malignancy in serous ovarian tumors(P=0.003) and mucinous tumors (P=0.049). A significant correlation was also found between expression of c-myc and the histological grade of serous carcinomas(P=0.02). A correlation between expression of these antigenic proteins and clinical stage of epithelial ovarian tumors was not demonstrated. Expression of p53 and c-myc was closely correlated with expression of TGF-alpha irrespective of the histological degrees of malignancy and type of epithelial ovarian tumors(0.4 < or = K < or = 0.7). The results of this study support the ideas that expression of c-myc and TGF-alpha might be a useful prognostic indicator in human ovarian carcinomas, and expression of p53 could be another indicator of prognosis, as the expression of p53 is characteristic in that the expression is mostly seen in invasive ovarian carcinomas.

Mycobiology 2000;28(1):11-16
The nucleotide sequences of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions of the ribosomal DNA including the 5.8S ribosomal RNA gene (rDNA) have been determined for 11 species in order to analyze their intrageneric relationships. The total length of these sequences ranged from 530 nucleotides for Trichoderma reesei KCTC 1286 to 553 nucleotide for Trichoderma koningii IAM 12534. Generally speaking, the length of ITS1 region was about 30 nucleotides longer than that of the ITS2 region. Also, the sequences of 5.8S rDNA were more conserved in length and variation than those of ITS regions. Although the variable ITS sequences were often ambiguously aligned, the conserved sites were also found. Thus, a neighbor-joining tree was constructed using the full sequence data of the ITS regions and the 5.8S rDNA. The Trichoderma genus used to be grouped on the basis of the morphological features and especially the shape of phialides needs to be reexamined. The phylogenetic tree displayed the presence of monophylogeny in the species of Trichoderma. Therefore, it was difficult to distinguish the intrageneric relationships in the Trichoderma genus.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1986;21(5):943-947
Restoration of the M-P joint of a damaged or lost joint by trauma, tumor and others is necessary for adequate function of the hand. Several procedure have been described for restoration of the M-P joint. We experienced a case of vascularized joint transter for a lost joint by trauma. After 1 year and 2 months follow-up, there have been no degenerative change and no pain.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1994;29(2):711-721
Authors reviewed 42 fractures of distal tibia fixated with Ender nails(24 cases) or Interlocking nails(18 nails) at the Chosun university Hospital from 1986 to 1992. The purpose of this study is to compare the bony union, the complications and the functional results of two groups(Ender nailing group and Interlocking nailing group). The follow-up period was average 19 months(range, 12 to 36 months). The results were as follows 1. The most common causes of the injury were traffic accidents(36 cases). 2. In the Ender nailing group, 8 cases are closed fractures and 16 cases are open fractures. Among 24 cases, 14 cases are simple fractures and 10 cases comminuted fractures. In interlocking nailing group, 7 cases are closed fracture and 11 cases are open fractures. Among 18 cases, 8 cases are simple fractures and 10 cases are comminuted fractures. 3. The average radiologic union was obtained at 19.3 wks in Ender nailing group, and 18.1 wks in interlocking nailing group. 4. Major complication was a delayed union in both group(5 cases-Ender nailing group, 3 cases-Interlocking group). 5. According to the criteria of functional results by Klemm and Borner, we obtained a 87.5% of Excellent and good results in Ender nailing group(21 out of 24 cases) and 94.4% of Excellent and good results in Interlocking group(17 out of 18 cases). 6. There was no significant difference between the two groups in stable fractures of distal tibia, so we suppose that Ender nailing is a good technique in these cases due to its simplicity and the economic price. But in more unstable fractures such as long oblique, spiral and comminuted fractures, we think that intramedullary interlocking nailing is better due to its stability.
