We reported the case of Mr. M.H. Lee aged 46 years, who was first seen March. 4, 1972. The Chief complaint was pain on the left forehead and nausea for one day. Tension with the Schiotz tonometer was 45mmHg. The skin of left side of the forehead, inside of the eyebrow, left side of the radix nasi and nostril showed irregular papule formation in small circumscribed areas 2 days after admission. Acute iritis finding was occurred 6 days after the onset. The clinical course was one month. Sensitivity of the cornea was recovered and vision was improved to normal without posterior synechia or corneal ulcer.

Some of chronic benign recurrent dermatoses are markedly recalcitrant to the ordinary dermatological treatments. The author studied the therapeutic effect of beta ray on those of 30 patients including 6 cases of psoriasis, 3 of lichen simplex chronicus, 9 of nummular eczema, 8 of pustulosis palmaris et plantaris, and 4 of chronic eczema of the finger. All of the above were promptly recurred with ordinary treatments. Strontium 90 applicator was used as the source of beta ray and the total irradiation doses to each sites were ranged from 600 to 1500 rads in divided doses(usually weekly) over 2 to 3 weeks. The results were as follows, 1. In psoriasis patients with papular type were cleared by strontium 90, however, with chronic localized plaque type were poorly responded. The relapses of the cleared papular type were noticed between 13 to 24 days intervals, and it appeared that the larger doses did not influence significantly the clinical results. 2. Almost all of the chronic eczematous dermatoses including lichen simplex chronicus, nummular eczema, pustulosis Palmaris et plantaris, and chronic eczema of the finger, which were irradiated by beta rays following clearance with preliminary corticosteroid therapy, were recurred between 2 to 4 weeks intervals. However, larger doses resulted in prolonged recurrence intervals in a few patients. 3. No noticeable eariy hazards of irradiation were detected except for the mild hyperpigmentation on the irradiated skin.

Multiple myeloma is a primary malignant tumor of bone marrow characterized by proliferation of cells arising from primitive marrow reticulum that resemble plasma cells. This is one of the most common primary malignant neoplasm involving bone elements. Bone pain, soft tissue mass, low grade fever, anemia, neurologic symptom and renal insufficiency are the main clinical pictures. Authors present radiological and clinical findings of multiple myeloma in 10 cases of pathologically proved multiple myeloma. The results obtained are as follows; 1. In the age and sex distributions, all cases are over 45 years of age, and male to female is 7:3. 2. Clinical manifestations are bone pain, anemia, infection, weight loss, and bleeding. 3. Radiological findings are numerous punched out osteolytic lesions, generalized osteoporosis & osteolytic change, pathologic compression fractures, fracture only and osteoporosis, lytic and fractures. 4. Laboratory findings are monoclonal gammopathy in serum-electrophoresis, proteinuria, anemia, elevated uric acid in serum, Bence-Jones protein in urine and albumin/globulin ration inverse in serum protein.

A case of Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber syndrome described originally by Klippel and Trenaunay on 1900, was presented with a brief review of literatures. The patient, 30 year-old male, said that he had noticed a reddish plaque in his right leg at the age of about 10 and had felt the asymmetricity of the limbs about 5 years later. On physical examination, he had an ulcerated sclerosing hemangioma on his right limb which is extending from medial aspect of upper one third of the lower leg to the foot. It was also associated with the varicosities just above the hemangioma, edema and hypertrophy around the right ankle, and a visible elongation of the right limb. A plane X-ray revealed osteohypertrophy of tibia and fibula without any periosteal reaction, and a soft tissue hypertrophy was also noticed around the right ankle. Histological findings of the hemangioma revealed moderate fibrosis around the proliferated vascular tissue and two of the remarkable thrombosis in the median sized vessels.

The purpose of this study was to develope and test the structural model for depression in middle-aged women. A hypothetical model was constructed on the basis of previous studies and a review of literatures. The conceptual framework was built around eight constructs. Exogenous variables included in this model were volunteer activity, health status & economic status. Endogenous variables were meaning of life, self-esteem, perceived life stress & depression. Empirical data for testing the hypothetical model was collected using a self-report questionnaire from 216 middle-aged women in Pusan City. The Data was collected from May to June, 1999. Reliability of the seven instruments tested with Cronbach's alpha was ranged from .86-.94. For the data analysis, SPSS 7.5 WIN Program and LISREL 8.12 WIN Program were used for descriptive statistics and covariance structural analysis. The results of covariance structure analysis were as follows: 1. The hypothetical model showed a good fit with the empirical data. [chi2/df =2.87(p=.72), GFI=1.00, AGFI=.98, RMSR=.025, NFI=.99, standardized residuals (-1.44~1.44) ]. 2. To heighten for the parsimony and fitness of the model, a modified model was constructed by deleting according to the criteria of statistical significance and meaning. 3. The modified model also showed a good fit with the data. [chi2 =5.26(01=7,p=.63), GFI=.99, AGFl=.97, RMSR=.025, NFI=.99, standardized reslduals (-1.50~1.45) ] Results of the testing of the hypothesis were as follows : 1. Self-esteem(beta42=-.48, t=-5.64) had a negative and perceived life stress(beta43 =.20, t=3.21)had a positive direct effect on depression. Meaning of life had a negative direct(beta41=-.17, t=-2.19) and a negative indirect effect through self- esteem on depression. Volunteer activity had a negative indirect effect through meaning of life, meaning of life and self-esteem on depression. Health status had a negative direct and a negative indirect effect through meaning of life, meaning of life and self-esteem on depression. Economic status had a negative indirect effect through perceived life stress on depression. Self-esteem was the most significant variable. 2. Volunteer activity(gamma11=.43, t=6.78) and health status(gamma12=.35, t=4.88) had positive direct effect on meaning of life. 3. Meaning of life(beta21=.50, t=6.53) had a positive direct effect on self-esteem. Volunteer activity had a positive indirect effect through meaning of life on self-esteem. Health status had a positive direct(gamma22=.18, t=2.23) and a indirect effect through meaning of life on self-esteem. Meaning of life was the most significant variable.

BACKGROUND: It is now well established that hypercholesterolemia is an important cause of coronary heart disease, and clinical intervention studies have demonstrated the therapeutic value of correcting hypercholesterolemia. One of lipoprotein, lipoprotein(a) [LP(a)] contains one(or two) molecule of apo(a) linked to apo B100 by a disulphied bridge, is associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease. NIDDM patients have a two-to fourfold increased risk of coronary heart disease relative to nondiabetic subjects. This excess risk is explained only partially by increased levels of standard risk factors. This study was conducted to assess the relatioship between serum Lp(a) levels and coronary heart disease. Furthermore, whether the Lp(a) level was related with NIDDM or not. METHODS: Total 83 subjects undergoing coronary angiography were evaluated on clinical risk factors and lipid profies with Lp(a). Among them, 24 subjects had normal coronary artery, while the others revealed significant stenosis of coronary arteries more than 50%. RESULTS: The serum Lp(a) levels of the CHD group were significantly higher than control group(37.4 +/- 31.8mg/dl vs 22.6 +/- 12.9mg/dl). Other lipids profile were not significantly dfferent between two groups. Serum Lp(a) levels had no relations to fasting blood sugar level. Multivariate logistic regression analysis of lipid parameters revealed that cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and Lp(a) were best discriminator among risk factors for coronary heart disease. But in our study, the serum cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels were within normal range. CONCLUSION: This study suggested that Lp(a) level was a significant independent risk factor for coronary heart disease whether there was fasting hyperglycemia or not.
