Objectives: . Studies on the aeroallergen sensitization status of South Koreans based on large-scale data are lacking. Methods: . We analyzed data from 368,156 multiple allergosorbent tests collected by a domestic medical diagnosis company from 3,735 hospitals nationwide from 2018 to 2021. We additionally collected sex, age, and regional data. If the level of an aeroallergen was 0.35 IU/mL or more, the test result for that aeroallergen was defined as positive, and positive cases were defined as those where one aeroallergen was positive. The positive ratio (PR) for aeroallergens was calculated using positive cases. Results: . In total, 347,996 cases were analyzed, excluding cases with missing data. The percentage of positive cases was 56.7%, which was highest in adolescents (74.1%) and lowest in the elderly (47.0%). All four types of mites had high PRs (0.382–0.655), and mold had low PRs (0.023–0.058). Among pollens, the PRs of grasses were generally high (more than 0.14), followed by weeds (approximately 0.10), and the PRs of woods was less than 0.1. For animals, cats and dogs had the highest PRs, at 0.231 and 0.183, respectively. The value for cockroaches was also high, at 0.211. The PRs of indoor aeroallergens, such as mites, molds, and animals, were high in adolescents, and those of pollen and cockroaches were high in the elderly. In Jeju, the PR of Japanese cedars was extremely high (0.222). Conclusion . Koreans were found to be sensitized to a wide variety of aeroallergens. There were significant differences in sensitization patterns according to age and region.

PURPOSE: To determine if the tumor intersitial fluid pressure (TIFP) and/or its change in patients with metastatic lymph node in head and neck area can predict radiotherapy outcome. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In 26 biopsy proven metastatic lymph node patients in head and neck area with accessible by direct inspection and palpation, and of sufficient thickness (>1 cm) to permit accurate needle placement, we measured TIFP at cervical lymph node before and during radiotherapy. Tumor size was measured clinically and radiologically. RESULTS: The mean preradiotherapy TIFP was 24.7 mmHg. Preradiotherapy TIFP had marginally significant relationship with tumor size ( p=0.06). Preradiotherapy TIFP significantly decreased when tumor size decreased ( p=0.009). Preradiotherapy TIFP was not different between complete response group and group with partial or less respone ( p=0.75). Radiotherapy outcome was not different between group with above and group with below than average TIFP ( p=0.229). TIFP decreased 36 mmHg in complete response group and 29.7 mmHg in group with partial or less respone. CONCLUSION: The mean TIFP was elevated with 24.7 mmHg. Preradiotherapy TIFP had marginally significant relationship with tumor size ( p=0.06). TIFP decreased 36 mmHg in complete response group and 29.7 mmHg in group with partial or less respone but there was no statistically significant relationship in two groups.

Development of transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI), a non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema, after blood transfusion, is a rare but potentially leading cause of mortality from blood transfusion. We report on a case of TRALI in a 51-year male with acute calculous cholecystitis and liver cirrhosis. As preoperative treatment, he was given ten units of fresh frozen plasma (FFP) for 3 days before the operation. During the transfusion of the 10th unit of FFP, he experienced a sudden onset of hemoptysis, tachypnea, tachycardia, and cyanosis. Bilateral pulmonary infiltration not observed on the chest X-ray at the visit was newly developed. There was no evidence of volume overload but severe hypoxemia. Blood transfusion was stopped and he recovered fully after 8 days of oxygen therapy through a nasal cannula. Although HLA and HNA antibodies were not detected in the donor's blood, HLA antibodies (A2, B57, B58) were detected in the patient's blood. We reported this meaningful case of TRALI that occurred after transfusion of only fresh frozen plasma which did not contain human leukocyte antibody in a patient with HLA antibody.

In the present study, a perfluorochemical emulsion (Fluosol-DA 20%) did not alter Do and and Dq values on cell survival curve, indicating that the lack of a direct effect of Fluosol-DA 20% on cellular radiosensitivity in vitro. The effect of Fluosol-DA 20% injection in combination with carbogen breathing was determined on the hupoxic cell fraction in SCK tumors. The hypoxic cell fraction in control SCK tumors was 0.39. This value decreased to 0.05 when the mice were i.v. injected with 12 ml/kg of Fluosol-DA 20% in a carbogen atomosphere. The measured mean and median PO2 values with a microelectorde in the control tumors was 9 mmHg and 4 mmHg, respectively. The treatment of the SCK tumors in the host mice with injected Fluosol-DA 20% in combination with carbogen breathing increased the mean and median PO2 values to 67 mmHg and 62 mmHg, respectively. Using carbogen breathing alone caused a moderate increase of tumor PO2. But Fluosol-DA 20% injection alone caused little change PO2 in the tumor. It was concluded that the combination of Fluosol-DA injection and carbogen breathing is an effective means to improve oxygenation of tumors.

A 67-year-old man underwent coronary angiography using a transradial approach. Three months after coronary angiography, the patient complained of a thrill detected in his right wrist. Localized compression was performed in the assumption of arteriovenous fistula formation. Since thrill was still detected after localized compression, surgical revision of an arteriovenous fistula was performed. Six days later, radial bruit was still reported. It was decided to perform upper extremity angiography. Upper extremity angiography revealed the remaining arteriovenous fistula from radial artery to cephalic vein, and surgical revision was performed again. This appears to be a very unusual complication related to the transradial approach for coronary angiography.
