1.The Moderating Effects of Social Support between Emotional Labor and Job Satisfaction in Clinical Nurses.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the moderating effects of social support between emotional labor and job satisfaction in clinical nurses. METHODS: Participants were 311 clinical nurses and data were collected from July 11th to 18th, 2014. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and hierarchical multiple regression with SPSS 21.0. RESULTS: The job satisfaction indicated a significant relationship to surface-acting (r=-.191, p=.001), deep-acting (r=.179, p=.002) and social support (r=.342, p<.001) respectively. Emotional labor significantly affected job satisfaction (F=11.592, p<.001), and explained 5.4% of the variance in job satisfaction. The social support acted as a moderator on the relationship between emotional labor and job satisfaction at significant level (F=11.416, p<.001). CONCLUSION: The results of this study suggest that it is important to develop social support promoting and stress relief program for clinical nurses to improve job satisfaction.

2.Effects of Organizational Culture, Self-Leadership and Empowerment on Job Satisfaction and Turnover Intention in General Hospital Nurses.

PURPOSE: In this study factors affecting job satisfaction and turnover intention of nurses were explored in the context of organizational culture, self-leadership, and empowerment. METHODS: Participants were 286 nurses drawn from 3 general hospitals. Data were analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and hierarchial multiple regression with the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. RESULTS: Significant differences in job satisfaction and turnover intention were found according to organizational culture types. Significant positive correlations were found between self-leadership, empowerment, task oriented organizational culture, relationship oriented organizational culture, innovation oriented organizational culture and job satisfaction. On the other hand, significant negative relationships were found between empowerment, relationship oriented organizational culture, innovation oriented organizational culture and turnover intention. The factors that enhance job satisfaction were found to be higher innovation-oriented organizational culture. Lower turnover intention was shown to be positively associated with relationship- or innovation oriented organization culture. CONCLUSION: Innovation oriented organizational culture is needed in order to raise job satisfaction and reduce turnover intention of nurses.

3.Immunohistochemical Study of Heat Shock Protein(HSP) and Estrogen Receptor(ER) in the Normal Endometrium and in Adenocarcinoma of the Endometrium.

Heat shock protein(HSP), first found in the MCF-7 human breast tumor cell line is one of the estrogen-regulated proteins and its synthesis is stimulated by estradiol. In this study, immunohistochemical staining was done for estrogen receptor(ER) and HSP on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections in twelve normal cyclic and twenty carcinomatous endometria. 1) During the proliferative and early secretary phases, the nuclei of surface and glandular epithelial cells and stromal cells had moderate to strong staining for ER, whereas during the mid and late secretary phases, the glandular epithelial and stromal cells had weak staining for ER. The surface epithelial cells had positive staining of variable intensity. 2) From the early proliferative to mid secretary phases, the glandular and surface epithelial cells showed a positive reaction of variable intensity for HSP. In the late secretary phase, the glandular and surface epithelial cells showed a weak positive or a negative reaction for HSP. During the menstrual cycle, the stromal cells remained negative for HSP. 3) In adenocarcinomas of the endometrium, 8 of 11 (72.7%) well differentiated carcinomas were positive for both ER and HSP, while only 3 of 9(33.3%) moderately and poorly differentiated carcinomas were positive for ER and HSP. In conclusion, ER and estrogen-regulated heat shock protein(HSP) were closely related in normal and carcinomatous endometria and the reactivity was decreased according to poor differentiation.

4.Endometrial Carcinoma Associated with Stein-Leventhal Syndrome: Two cases report.

Stein-Leventhal syndrome is a clinicopathological entity characterized by chronic anovulation and sclerotic ovaries. Clinically, the affected patients typically present their third decade with a history of premenarchal obesity and postmenarchal onset of oligomenorrhea or amenorrhea, infertility, and clinical evidence of increased androgen production. In some patients, there are estrogenic phenomena such as menometrorrhagia with or without endometrial hyperplasia or carcinoma. Several studies have indicated that there may be an increased incidence of ovarian neoplasia in polycystic ovaries. Recently, we experienced two cases of polycystic ovaries assotiated with endometrial carcinoma in premenopausal women, who had clinical characteristics of Stein-Leventhal syndrome; one of the cases had additional serous cystandenofibroma.

5.Effects of Written Information for Coronary Artery Disease Depending on Patients' Health Literacy on Health Behavior Compliance Related Self-efficacy, Knowledge of Disease, Anxiety, and Educational Satisfaction

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of providing written information for coronary artery disease on health behavior compliance related self-efficacy, knowledge of disease, anxiety, and educational satisfaction depending on patients' health literacy.METHODS: The participants in this study were 40 patients who underwent coronary angiography or coronary intervention, and depending on the level of health literacy 30 patients were high group and 10 patients were low group. Each group was evaluated on health behavior compliance related self-efficacy, knowledge of disease, anxiety, and educational satisfaction with providing written information.RESULTS: By providing written information in the group with high health literacy, there was a significant difference in health behavior compliance related self-efficacy, knowledge of disease, but there was no significant difference in anxiety variable. On the other hand, there was no significant difference in health behavior compliance related self-efficacy, knowledge of disease, and anxiety by providing written information in the group with low health literacy. Also, there was no significant difference in the educational satisfaction between high and low group of health literacy after providing written information.CONCLUSION: It is necessary to develop educational materials that can be applied to clinical nursing field with considering health literacy of patients with coronary artery disease. In addition to providing written information, it is also necessary to develop other educational intervention programs such as video and personalized counseling that may be helpful for coronary patients with low health literacy and investigate their effectiveness.

6.Effects of Hyperhomocysteinemia on the Immunohistochemical Reactivity for Vimentin in the Retinal Glial Cell.

It has been suggested that the elevated plasma homocysteine may lead to retinal dysfunction. We investigated the effects of plasma levels of homocysteine and folate on the retinal glial cells' injuries. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were raised either on a control diet or on an experimental diet containing 3.0 g/kg homocystine without folic acid for 10 weeks. Plasma homocysteine concentrations were measured by a HPLC-fluorescence detection method. Plasma folate and vitamin B12 levels were analyzed by a radioimmunoassay. The response of Muller cells which are the principal glial cells of the retina was immunohistochemically examined using an antibody for vimentin, a cytoskeletal protein belonging to the family of intermediate filament. At 2 weeks, the homocystine diet induced a twofold increase in plasma homocysteine, and a concomitant increase in the expression of vimentin in the Muller cells' processes spanning from the inner to outer membranes of the retina indicating arterial degeneration. At 10 weeks, the homocystine diet induced a fourfold increase in plasma homocystine, but vimentin immunoreactivity in the retinas was similar in both groups. In conclusion, increased plasma homocysteine levels have influence on morphological and functional changes of Muller cells in the retina.

8.Arteriovenous malformation of the uterus-a cause of massive operative bleeding.

Arteriovenous malformations of the uterus are extremely rare and they occur either in congenital or acquired forms. The most common clinical presentation is abnormal uterine bleeding, which may be aggravated by therapeutic curettage. Because of their rare incidence and clinical importance in management of patients, we report a case of arteriovenous malformation causing serious bleeding during a hysterectomy for uterine leiomyoma. The patient was a 47-year-old multiparous woman who had a history of chronic vaginal bleeding for one year. Numerous anomalous blood vessels draining into the right and left uterine arteries were found on the anterior wall of the uterus and parametrium.

9.Cystadenoma of the Rete Ovarii.

The rete ovarii is a rare site for tumor development. We present a case of cystadenoma originating from the rete ovarii of a 58-year-old woman. It was a unilocular cyst of 7.0 cm in size, lined by flat, cuboidal, or columnar epithelial cells supported by fibromuscular tissue. Papillary growth and crevice formation of the inner surface were characteristic. The presence of a normal rete ovarii was helpful in correct diagnosis.

10.The EGFR Protein Expression and the Gene Copy Number Changes in Renal Cell Carcinomas.

BACKGROUND: The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is known to be involved in many tumor promoting activities. EGFR inhibition has been tried as a therapeutic modality in many human malignancies. METHODS: The expression of EGFR protein and the gene copy number changes were studied in 135 clear cell carcinomas and 16 papillary renal cell carcinomas (RCCs), and these tumors were diagnosed between 1995 and 1997. RESULTS: An EGFR protein expression (2+ and 3+) was found in 54.1% of the clear cell RCCs and in 43.8% of the papillary RCCs. In the clear cell RCCs, its expression was associated with male gender, the tumor size (> or =4 cm) and high T stages (T2 and T3), with statistical significance. Trisomy and polysomy of the EGFR gene were found in 27 (25.7%) and 40 (38.1%) of 105 clear cell RCCs, respectively. Trisomy and polysomy were correlated with an EGFR protein expression and a high clinical T stage, with statistical significance. Among 15 papillary RCCs, 13 tumors showed trisomy (86.7%) and one showed polysomy (6.7%). Amplification was not found in both the clear cell and papillary type RCCs. CONCLUSIONS: A considerable numbers of RCCs showed an overexpression of EGFR protein and increased EGFR gene copy numbers, yet the clinical significance of conducting a FISH study in RCC patients seems to be limited.
