Recently, the trends of medical information technologies are capturing digital image from medical analog information, medical image aquisition, transmission, storage and query as well as integration with hospital information system. Analog medical visual information from ultrasonic, MRI can be changed into digital medical information, and to connect with medical video information system which need frame editing, 3D modeling and rendering. The purpose of this study is to design multi graphic image authoring tool and development of digital video editing functionalities, which can be used usefully for medical visual editing tool as well as vector image production system. The implementation methodology is based on Object-Oriented Modeling with primitive, media and composition object with reusability and inheritance characteristics, which can be useful for interleaving various type of media into video stream. The system assesment is based on international recommendation ISO 15504 81W process capability determination. We select 6 processes from Engineering process of system requirement analysis and design category, and determine capability for selected SIW process for system assesment.

The purpose of this study is to develop medicine electronic order system to improve medicine logistics using information and communication technologies. The Electronic Order System of medicine using Web EDJ adopted the Internet and Web-based technologies which grows so fast lately, enables medical institutions to place an order with the pharmaceutical companies for various pharmacy and vendors to receive an order form in electronical ways and to deliver the products. It designed that every application programs installed and run at web-server, so if personal computers located in user facilities have only web-browser, user can order medicines wherever Internet is available. We can expect two effects from this system. First, it reduces cost and budget because of substituting electronical ordering the pharmacy for telephoning or faxing. Secondly, in technical side, it utilized a new kind of concept, Internet-based EDJ, not VAN(Value Added Network) EDI using the existent closed network.

PURPOSE: In recent years, research on reported adverse events following immunization (AEFI) and claims filed for compensation has been lacking. We reviewed reported AEFIs and compensation claims in Korea from 2011 to 2016. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We listed all of the AEFI registered in the Integrated Management System of Disease and Public Health and reviewed the list of claims filed and serious AEFIs reported from 2011 to 2016. RESULTS: An average of 278 AEFI cases was reported annually from 2011 to 2016. Of these, 31 deaths were reported. However, there was no association found between these deaths and vaccinations when evaluating vaccine lot, reviewing autopsies, and considering underlying diseases. AEFI reporting rate was as high as 20.8 cases for bacillus Calmette–Guérin (BCG) vaccine, 7.3 cases for 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPV23), and 5.4 cases for human papillomavirus vaccine per 100,000 vaccination doses in 2016. Of the 469 total cases that claimed vaccine injury compensation from 2011 to 2016, the BCG vaccine was most commonly involved, with 235 cases (50%), followed by influenza vaccine and PPV23, with 90 and 55 cases, respectively. Of these cases, 96% of BCG-related AEFI were compensated, while only 31% and 49% of AEFI following influenza and PPV23 vaccination, respectively, were compensated. Common characteristics of uncompensated cases included the elderly subjects, receiving influenza vaccine, having underlying disease, or a very short time interval between vaccination and symptoms. CONCLUSION: We have maintained vaccine safety management system through both rapid response to serious AEFI and vaccine injury compensation in order to sustain public trust in the National Immunization Program.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and metabolic syndrome (MS) is increasing and those have been recognized as potential risk factors for cardiovascular disease in adults. The aim of this study is to investigate the association between obstructive sleep apnea syndrome and metabolic syndrome. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We enrolled 127 adults who were evaluated as having OSA. Each subject underwent overnight polysomnography to identify OSA based on the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI); OSA was diagnosed when AHI≥5, and subjects with AHI<5 were classified as the control group. MS was defined according to the Adult Treatment Panel (ATP) III criteria. RESULTS: Among 127 participants, 105 subjects were diagnosed with OSA. The mean age and smoker percentage showed differences between the OSA and control group. The prevalence of MS was significantly higher in the OSA group compared to the control group. As the severity of OSA increases, the prevalence of MS also increase. CONCLUSIONS: The MS is significantly related to the OSA in adults. Therefore, we suggest that patient with OSA should be screened to identify the presence of MS.
