1.Clinical Observation in Patients of Whom Gold thread Acupuncture has been Applied.
Korean Journal of Urology 1974;15(2):107-113
Gold thread acupuncture has been applied mainly in patients with low back pain, flank pain, nedica1, neurological and orthopedic problems by herb doctors in Korea. since 1962. K.U.B. was taken in 2,725 cases among 5.334 patients who visited Urology department, Korea University Woo Sok Hospital during the period of 3 years and 7 months from tan. 197O to July 1973 and 60 cases were found to have gold threads in their paravertebral region. The 60 cases were analyzed and the following results were obtained. 1. 41 out of 60 cases (63.8%) have been complaining of low back pain and/or flank pain. 2. 17 cases (28.3%) had urinary tract calculi, 14 (23.3%) revealed B.P.H. and 13 (2l.7%) tad diseases of the bladder. 3. The gold threads were seen through out the level of 7th cervical vertebra to coccygeal vertebra. 4. The number of gold thread implanted in one person varied between one to thirty eight. 5. 27 patients (45.O%). of v-horn gold thread acupuncture have been applied previously. received urological operation and instrumentation with good results.

2.Studies on the Oxidative Metabolism of Sugar in the Isolated Rabbit Kidney.
Korean Journal of Urology 1974;15(2):89-96
The isolated rabbit kidney was perfused with the blood collected from the donor rabbits. in order to investigate the substrates taken up by the rabbit kidney as the fuels of energy source. Perfusion pressure was set at 150 mmHg which was within the range of autoregulation. Blood glucose was determined by the Somogyi-Nelson method, and O2 and CO2 contents in renal artery and vein were measured by the VanSlyke mercury manometric technique. Radioactivity of 14CO2 in the blood sample derived from 14C-UL-glucose was measured by use of liquid scintillation counter. Respiratory quotient (R.Q.) of rabbit kidney was calculated from the CO2 production and O2 consumption rate. Relative specific activity (R.S.A.) of CO2 was also calculated from the specific activity of plasma glucose and specific activity of CO2. The results were as follows: 1) Average renal blood flow was 1. 41 ml/min-gm kidney. 2) COs content of renal artery and vein were 13.6 mM/L and 15. 5 mM/L respectively. (AV. difference of CO2... 1.9mM/L) and O. content of renal artery and vein were 13.6 vol% and 8.3 vol%. (Av-difference of O2.., 5. 3vol%) 3) COs production rate (VCO2) was 5l. 6 uL/min-gm kidney and O2 consumption rate(VO2) was 73. 6uL,min.gm kidney. Therefore respiratory quotient of kidney was O. r3. 4) Glucose concentration in the perfused blood was 242mg% and the specific activity of plasma glucose was 4, 439 c.p.m/,mgC of glucose. 5) The specific activity of CO2 was 40c,p.m/mgC of CO2 and the relative specific activity was 0.90%. From the above results, it was concluded that glucose is almost not used as the fuel of energy source in the rabbit kidney as found in human and dog kidneys, and suggested the possibility that fats such as free fatty acids are utilized as predominant energy source.

3.Subband-VQ Coding of Cardio-Angiography.
Journal of Korean Society of Medical Informatics 1998;4(2):133-138
Medical images wit high resolution are coded to be archived communicated in PACS. In this pater, we have studied on coding of Cardio-Angiography. Our coding technique is method is Subband-Vector Quantization. This technique is irreversible coding method. This technique's objects are removing blocking artifact and edge degradation, adapting for drastic image change because of dye injection, and fast decoding, We achieved good results for Cardio-Angiography data, but the study on more sophisticated motion estimation techniques and VQ techniques must be performed.

4.Relationship of Hopelessness and Spiritual-Need of Cancer Patients.
Journal of Korean Academy of Adult Nursing 1999;11(1):73-86
The purpose of this study was to identify the re lationship of hopelessness and spiritual-need of cancer patients. Subjects for this study were 272 cancer patients sampled from a madical center in Pusan. The data were collected from Feb. 1 to Mar. 10, 1998 using questionnaire method. Hopelessness measured hopelessness scale was the One(1986) modification of Beck(1974) and spiritual -need measured spiritual-need scale by Kim (1986) according to classification of Fish and Shelly. The questionnaire consisted of question regarding hopelessness scale(20 items 5 point) and spiritual-need scale (30 items 5 point scale). The reliability of this instrument was that the hopelessness scale was Cronbach's alpha=0.89 and the spiritual-need was Cronbach's alpha=0.93. The data were analyzed with the SFSS program using mean, standard deviation, frequency and percentage, t-test, ANOVA, Post hok test and Pearson's Correlation Coefficient. The results of this study were as follow : 1. The mean score of the total hopelessness was 2.79 in 1(lowest) -to-5(highest) scoring system. The analysis of the hopelessness according to general characteristics of the cancer patients showed duration of treatment(F=3.77), cognition prognosis(F=2.92) age(F=2.66), religional effect of life(2.48). 2. The mean score of the total spiritual-need was 3.47 in 1(lowest)-to-5 (highest) scoring system. age(F=5.517), sex(F= .919), religion(F=25.89), religional effect of life(F=18.54), diagnosis(F= 7.67), main care giver(F=4.09), cognition of disease(F=2,92), cognition of prognosis (F=331), inspiring source(F= 12.72), acceptioal attitude of present situation(F= 13.52). according to the categoiised paiL were showed to the need for meaning and purpose(9.40), to the need for love and relatedness(7.08), and to the need for being forgiven(6,93). 3. There was significant correlation between the degree of hopelessness and spiritual-need(gamma=.146, P<0.05).

Korean Journal of Pathology 1999;33(7):540-543
Fibro-osseous pseudotumor of the digits is a heterotopic ossification closely related to myositis ossificans and occurs in the subcutaneous tissue of the digits. This lesion is considered a reactive fibroblastic proliferation with metaplastic bone formation. We report a case of fibro-osseous pseudotumor of left index finger in a 28-year-old woman. She had had an ovoid smooth subcutaneous mass with tenderness on the left index finger for one month. In gross, the specimen consisted of a relatively circumscribed, rubbery soft mass with grayish white cut surface measuring 2.0 1.7 1.5 cm. Upon microscopic examination the lesion showed irregular multinodular growth with considerably variable cellularity. Because of the focal hypercellularity, cellular atypia, and increased mitotic activity this lesion may be confused with extraskeletal osteosarcoma or parosteal osteosarcoma. This rare lesion is curable by complete local excision.

Korean Journal of Blood Transfusion 1994;5(1):25-30
Removal of leukocytes from blood components may prevent alloimmunization to leukocyte antigens, febrile nonhemolytic transfusion reactions, transmission of leukotropic viruses or bacteria, and graft-versus-host disease. New surface-modified fibrous polyester filters were evaluated; they require no special processing of blood components and can be used at the patient's bed-side. Pall RC100TM(Pall Co., USA) was used to filter 2 units of RBCs at a time for a total of 8 filtrations: mean red cell recovery rate was 88.7%, mean WBC removal rate 99. 99%, and mean residual WBC count after filtration 2.77x 10 5. Twelve units of apheresis platelets were filtered with Pall PL50TM(Pall Co., USA): mean platelet recovery rate was 90.7%, mean WBC removal rate 99.95%, and mean residual WBC count after filtration 6.99 x 10 5. This study indicates that these filters efficiently remove WBCs without significant loss of red cells or platelets and that this kind of filters can be easily used at the patient's bed side.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1976;11(3):380-382
Diastematomyelia, a form of spinal dysraphism, is characterized by a division of the spinal cord or canda equina resulting the form a bony or cartilaginous spur which transfixes the neural elements and dura. The presence of a structure of neural crest origin in the subarachnoid space connecting the spicules suggested that the anomaly resulted from delayed closure of the neural tube and its investments. The cinical finding are presumed due to its restriction, tethering of the normal apward migration of the spinal cord. Congenital anomalies of one or both lower extremities and spine are frequently found with this condition. The surgical removal is recommended as a prophylactic measure against further progressive neurological damage. The purpose of this paper is to presented becanse it was associated with clubfoot and adds to understanding of teratogenesis of diastematomyelia.
