This study was conducted to investigate the vibrio flora in sand shrimp, Crangon affinis, which were collected in the estuarine area, Dadaepo near Nakdong River in Korea from in June 1996 to in May 1997. Crangon affinis is very important role in food chain in nature because of food for many seabirds and fishes. Six species of vibrios (Vibrio alginolyticus, V. parahaemolyticus, Listonella damsela (V. damsela), V. harveyi, V. splendidus biotype I, V. splendidus biotype II, and V. natriegens, an unrecorded species in Korea) were isolated from the intestine of shrimps and characterized by the biochemical tests.

Authors experienced a case with the congenital deficiency of the femoral head. The case showed the normal femoral segment and no any other bony anomalies which cannot be Included in Aitkens or Amstutz's classification.

This study was conducted to understand health status by general characteristic, and to find out relationship between social support and worker's health status. Health status was measured using SF-36(Medical Outcome Study Short Form 36), a 36 item self administered Instrument. The finding of this study were as follow; Mean scores of health status by sex were higher in male. The younger worker reported good health on physical functioning and role limitation-physical than did the older worker, but the older worker reported good health on social functioning and mental health. Mean scores of health status were higher in high income and white worker. When the relationship between social support and health status, social functioning, role limitation-emotion, mental health, vitality, general health were significantly related. Therefore we reviewed the evidence that socio-economic condition are associated with health status in this study, and that the strength of the social support was a important to maintain health.

Rosacea*

The relative bioavailability amd palsma level fluctuation of controlled release carbamazepine (carbamazepine CR, CBZ CR, Tegretol CR) to the regular product (Carbamazepine RR, CBZ RR, Tegletol RR) were studied in 12 patients who were taking stable dose of carbamazepine for more than six weeks. Fixed dosage regimen (400 mg every 12 hours) of both products was administered in a random cross over manner at least for four days. After reaching steady-state, serial blood samples were drawn after last dose administration. Plasma carbamazepine levels were analysed by fluorescence polarizing immunoassay. The controlled lelease products showed lower area under the concentration time curve (AUC; 89.7)20.0 ug/ml/hr) than that (107.1)13.2 ug/ml/hr) of the regular products (p<0.01), and also showed low peak plasma level (CR;848)l.93ug/ml, RR;10.57+1.55 ug/ml). However. Fluctuation of plasma drug level during dose interval was slightly less in controlled release products compared with carbamazepine regular products in the respect of various indices such as percent fluctuation, fluctuation index and area deviation from mean level. However those parameters did not show no statistical singificance between two products except area diviation (p<0.01). Though the controlled relase product showed slightly less fluctuation during dose interval, this seemed to be the expense of incomplete bioavailability. As a conclusion, the dose correction should be made according to the relative bioavailability of controlled release formulation if switching of the formulation from regular to controlled release form would be needed. However it could not be proved that controlled release fromulation had less fluctiuation during dose interval in this study. More detailed studies should be pursued to show the evidence of significant superiority of currently marketing controlled release formulation to the regular one.

Plexiform neurofibroma is considered a pathognomic of Von Recklinghousen's disease, which involves the deep and large nerve trunk. These are large irregular nerve fascicles which result from an increase in endoneural matrix within individual nerve facicles, without an increased number of nerve fibers. We experenced a case of Von Recklinghausen's disease in a 24 year-old male who had variable cutaneous skeletal, and CNS lesions. He presented multiple neurofibromas, cafe-au-lait spots, and axillary freckles as common cutaneous lesions of NF-I and giant pigmentation, sacral hypertrichosis, and plexiform neurofibroma as unusual cutaneous lesions. Also he had a scoliosis, bowing deformity of the humerous and wedging deformity of the body of the 5th cervical spine as a skeletal manifestation and cortical calcification in the occipital area as a CNS manifestation.

Twenty four hyperlipidemic patients, consist of 13 males and 11 females, were administration a new hypolipidemic agents, Pantethine, and blood lipid level were checked sereally for 16 weeks. The following results are obtained. 1. The serum high density lipoprotein-cholesterol are markedly increased by 11.8%. 2. The serum cholesterol level are reduced mildly by 4.8% & it seems to be insignificant. 3. The serum triglyceride level are moderately reduced by 10.7%. 4. In 11 female patients, pantethine are more than effect on male patients. 5. Pantethine has been well tolerated in most patients. With a consideration of remakable safety, it is promising that pantethine are effective in reducing cholesterol, Triglyceride and increasing high density lipoprotein-cholesterol level.
