Distribution of Sparganum mansoni in 7 species of terrestrial snakes in Wonju City was surveyed. All kinds of snakes were found to be served as intermediate hosts of this larval worm except Elaphe schrenkii which has already been recorded as important host. Authors believe that Zamenis spinalis was firstly recorded as intermediate host of Sparganum mansoni in Korea. Some aspects of infection status, host-parasite relations and sources of human infection were briefly discussed.

Transient osteoporosis of the hip is a self-limited condition of uncertain etiology and pathogenesis that affects young and middle aged adults. Even its clinical features are similar to the features of osteonecrosis the prognosis and clinical end result are quite different. So differential diagnosis between the two is very important. We present a case of transient osteoporosis of the hip in middle aged man, which was completely reeovered after conservative treatment.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1971;6(3):255-257
Hemangioma in peripheral nerves is a very rare condition. Two such conditions are experienced. One case aceompanied by nerve symptom was observed in ulnar nerve and was operated on by extirpation of the tumor including the nerve and was followed by nerve grafting. The other case involved the median nerve had no signs of nerve irritation and was also treated by tumor extirpation.

5.Comparison of Effects of Exhalation and Inhalation Breathing Exercises on Pulmonary Function and Complications in Elderly Patients with Upper-abdominal Surgery.
Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2016;46(4):514-522
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of exhalation breathing exercises using expirometer and that of inhalation breathing exercises using incentive spirometry on pulmonary function and complications in elderly patients with upper-abdominal surgery. METHODS: The research design was a nonequivalent control group non-synchronized design. Participants were 63 patients who underwent upper-abdominal surgery under general anesthesia (32 in experiment group, 31 in control group). They were recruited at P university hospital from August 1 to November 30, 2015. Effects were evaluated by measuring pulmonary functions (Forced Vital Capacity [FVC], Forced Expiratory Volume in 1 second [FEV1]) and pulmonary complications. Data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. RESULTS: There was no difference in FVC between the experimental group and the control group, but FEV1 in the experimental group increased significantly compared to the control group by time change (p=.001). Also, there were no pulmonary complications in the experimental group but there were 5 cases (16.1%)(p=.018) in the control group. CONCLUSION: Findings indicate that exhalation breathing exercises by elderly patients following upper-abdominal surgery is an effective nursing intervention in enhancing pulmonary function and preventing pulmonary complications.

Korean Circulation Journal 1985;15(3):527-532
Supravalvular aortic stenosis may be defined as an obstructive congenital deformity of the ascending aorta which originates just distal to the level of the origins of the coronary arteries. It may be localized or diffuse, and includes a wide spectrum of pathologic changes. A 16 years old school boy was admitted because of exertional dyspnea for 6 years. Clinical diagnosis of supravalvular and valvular aortic stenosis with bicuspid aortic valves and myocardial hypertrophy was made by echocardiography and angiocardiography. Surgical correction was performed successfully. We presented a case of supravalvular and valvular aortic stenosis with a review of literatures.

A case of iridocyclitis due to cysticercus cyst in the anterior chamber and exophthalmos due to in the orbit. A case of iridocycleitis due to cysticercus cyst in the anterior chamber of the left eye, bilateral exophthalmos due to in the orbit and generalized multiple cysticercus cyst in the subcutaneous tissue, brain and the internal organs is reported in a twenty one year old Korean male. To watch characteristic heaving and undulatory movements of the live cysticercus cyst in the anterior chamber of the eye is fascinating. Iridocyclitis was improved fairly after subconjunctival injection of hydrocortisone acetate 5mg and with general treatment for iridocyclitis. Regarding to literature, ocular cysticercosis is known as a very rare case in Korea. A brief review of the related literatures is presented.

9.Hypertensive Arterial Change in Hindlimb Unloading Rats.
Korean Journal of Aerospace and Environmental Medicine 2007;17(3):103-107
BACKGROUND: In a condition of microgravity, arteries of upper body part are exposed to relative hypertensive stress, which is induced by headward fluid shift. We already have reported the increase of monocyte adhesion and intercellular adhesion molecule-I (ICAM-I) expression in carotid artery and thoracic aorta in the simulated microgravity. The purpose of this study was to identify the evidence of hypertensive arterial change in hindlimb unloading rats. METHODS: A total of 16 Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into the 2 and the 4 weeks hindlimb unloading groups and their control groups, respectively. After experimental exposure, the carotid artery, the thoracic/abdominal aorta, and the femoral artery were obtained from each experimental and control groups. The degree of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2, MMP-9, and tissue inhibitor of MMPs type 1 (TIMP-1) expression were analyzed by immunohistochemical stain. RESULTS: The increase of MMP-2, 9 expression was noted in the carotid artery and the thoracic aorta from the 4 weeks hindlimb unloading group. On the other hand, the MMP-2, 9 expression was negligible in the abdominal aorta and the femoral artery of this group. In general, the findings of the 2 weeks hindlimb unloading group were similar to those of the control group. The TIMP expression was not found in all groups. CONCLUSION: We found the evidence of hypertensive arterial change by increased shear stress on upper body part's arteries in simulated microgravity. Considering the possible development of this change into hypertensive arterial damage with other cardiovascular risk factors, our findings can be highlighted as an important medical concern, especially in a long-term spaceflight.

10.Two Cases of Takayasu's Aortitis Causing Acute Myocardial Infarction.

Korean Circulation Journal 1992;22(2):322-329
The myocardial infarction is usually associated with the coronary artery disease in adults. It is unusual in chilhood and young adult but occasionally associated with coronary vasculitis. Takayasu's arteritis produces a panaortits with thickening of the adventitia and narrowing of aorta. Narrowing of coronary arteries is due to extension into these arteries of the processes of inflammation that occur in aorta. We report here two cases of Takayasu's aortitis causing acute myocardial infarction. Case 1 is a 17-year-old girl presented with the inferior myocardial infarction and the cerebral infarction. Digital subtraction aortography showed a diffuse narrowing of the aorta and the obstruction of both subclavian arteritis, right carotid artery and both femoral arteries. Case 2 is a 19-year-old male patient with anterior myocardial infarction. Coronary cineangiogram showed the beak like appearance of the left main coronay artery.
