5.Delivering Factors for Reprogramming a Somatic Cell to Pluripotency.
International Journal of Stem Cells 2012;5(1):6-11
An adult cell originates from stem cell. The stem cell is usually categorized into three species including an embryonic stem cell (ESc), an adult stem cell, and an induced stem cell (iPSc). iPSc features pluripotency, which is meant to be differentiated into any types of cells. Accordingly, it is much attractive to anyone who pursuit a regenerative medicine, owing to the potential almighty. They are simply produced by reprogramming a somatic cell via a transfer of transcription factors. The efficiency and productivity of iPS are considerably subject to delivering methods of exogenous genes into a variety of targeted mammalians. Conventional and well-run gene delivery techniques have been reviewed here. This details the methods and principles of delivery factors and provides an overview of the research, with an emphasis on their potential for use as clinical therapeutic platforms.

Korean Journal of Critical Care Medicine 2016;31(4):359-363
Postpartum hemorrhage is a common cause of maternal mortality; its main cause is placenta accreta. Therapeutic hypothermia is a generally accepted means of improving clinical signs in postcardiopulmonary resuscitation patients. A 41-year-old pregnant woman underwent a cesarean section under general anesthesia at 37 weeks of gestation. After the cesarean section, the patient experienced massive postpartum bleeding, which led to cardiac arrest. Once spontaneous circulation returned, the patient underwent an emergency hysterectomy and was placed under therapeutic hypothermia management. The patient recovered without neurological complications.

Korean Journal of Anesthesiology 1989;22(5):726-728
To evaluate the importance of enflurane metabolism, we selected eleven hepatitis B surface antigen positive, special antigen, antibody negative patients who were schedule for elective surgery. Their physical status were ASA class I or II, liver function tests shoused normal state, and they had no previous history of operation or liver disease. The result were concluded that the influence of enflurane anesthesia on liver function was not significant for anesthesia & surgery.

10.Evaluation of the Heptocellular Carcinoma Staging Systems.

[Abstract reproduced by permission of J Hepatol 2006;44:723-31] BACKGROUND/AIMS: The Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) classification offers a prognostic stratification of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We recently demonstrated the BCLC's peculiar prognostic ability in a retrospective cohort of HCC patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the BCLC system prospectively in a subsequent separate group of HCC patients enrolled at the same surgically oriented liver unit. METHODS: One hundred and ninety- five consecutive HCC patients were prospectively enrolled and their liver disease was staged before therapy. Unlike the BCLC treatment protocol, nodule size and number were not used as absolute exclusion criteria for radical treatment. Predictors of survival were identified using the Cox model. RESULTS: The median survival time was 23 months overall, and 53, 16, 7 and 3 months, respectively, for BCLC categories A, B, C, and D. In our cohort, BCLC had the best independent predictive power for survival when compared with the Okuda, CLIP, UNOS-TNM, and JIS prognostic systems (linear trend x2=43.01, likelihood x2=57.94, AIC 885.98). Moreover, the BCLC classification showed a better prognostic ability than the AJCC-TNM 2002 system in surgical patients. CONCLUSIONS: The discriminating power of BCLC staging was prospectively assessed in an Italian cohort of HCC patients treated mainly with radical therapies.
