1.Instability Patterns of Normal Midcarpal and Radiocarpal Joint in the Sagittal Plane.
The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1998;33(3):528-534
The midcarpal joint has inherent instability in the sagittal plane. Several instability patterns of midcarpal joint due to ligament insufficiency have been presented. We ohserved the normal midcarpal and radiocarpal behaviors of ligament laxity in the sagittal plane to investigate the significance of dorsal and palmar stress test which has been used for evaluation of the non-dissociative carpal instahilities. We performed the dorsal and palmar displacement stress test on fifty pairs of normal wrist joints under the flouroscopic views. The midcarpal joints were subluxed, more on dorsal stress, with variable degrees. Dorsal subluxations in females and third decades were more prominent than males and fourth decades. Three types of radiocarpal instability on dorsal stress test could be observed. We think that displacement stress test in the sagittal plane should be interpreted in consideration of normal instability patterns in the evaluation of ahnormal midcarpal and radiocarpal instabilities since there are variable patterns and degrees of ligament laxity in normal wrist joints.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1992;30(2):145-154
Through the clinicopathologic study of pathergy test sites of 16 patients with Behrets disease in the active or inactive stage, the following results were obtained; 1. In the active stage, six of 16 patients (37.5%) showed positive reactions in clinical pathergy tests, which are much higher than that in the inactive stage when only one patient showed a positive reaction. The severity of the ciniral pathergy reaction was directly related to the activity of the disease. 2. The characteristic histopathologic finding in the active stag was a dermal inflammatory cellular infiltration composed mainly of polymorphonuclear lukocytes and of lymphomononuclear cells accompanied by leukoctocylasia. Two of 16 patients showed true leukocytoclastic vasculitis. 3. Although the type of disease and the reactivity of the clinical pathergy test were related in terms of the severity of the histopathologic findings, there were some notible histopathologic changes even in the cases with negative clinical pathergy reactions. We concluded that the histopathologic findings of the pathergy test sites were more reliable for the diagnosis of Behcet's disease than the clinical findinigs.

Dysarthric patients often present velopharyngeal incompetence (VPI), characterized nasalization articulation for hypernasality, which seriously impaired their communication. Research of evaluation of VPI is mainly about cleft palate and postoperative, few about the dysarthria. Some approaches, such as physiologic approach to rehabilitation, have been used to correct hypernasality, and prosthesis, such as palatal lift prosthesis (PLP) and nasal speaking valve (NSV), are also proved effectively. PLP has been widely used for hypernasality oversea, but fewer in China.

Objective To investigate the vowel's nasalance and contact quotient (CQ) in children with hearing loss. Methods 57 subjects were divided to 3 groups: profound hearing loss children with hearing aids (HA, n=19), profound hearing loss children with cochlear implant (CI, n=19) and children without hearing loss (n=19). With the help of NV and electroglottography (EGG), the subjects' nasalance and CQ were recorded when they said /a/, /æ/, /i/, /o/, /u/. Results There was no significant differences among the 3 groups on nasalance (P>0.05). There was significant difference among 5 vowels on nasalance, ranked as /u/, /o/, /æ/, /i/, and /a/ (P<0.001). There was significant difference among 3 groups on CQ, ranked as HA, normal, and CI group (P<0.001). There was significant difference on CQ among 5 vowels, ranked as /i/, /u/, /æ/, /o/, and /a/ (P<0.001). Conclusion The voice and resonance should be assessed before speech therapy, which the speech therapy starts from the most correct vowel for children with profound hearing loss.

Uterine tumors resembling ovarian sex-cord tumors (UTROSCT) are very rare tumors that occur mainly in the uterine fundus of women in reproductive age. These tumors can be classified into group 1 and group 2 by histological results. In group 1, epithelial-like differentiation is partially observed in the tumors. In group 2, sex-cord elements are predominant in uterine mural mass. We experienced UTROSCT group 1 in a 29-year-old woman who complained of severe abdominal pain that started one week after delivery and UTROSCT group 2 case in a 49-year-old woman who complained of dysfunctional uterine bleeding. We report two different types of UTROSCT cases that we experienced.
