We report a 19-year-old man with hyperkeratosis of nipple and areola which is a part of an epidermal nevus. He did not have a history of endocrinopathy or synthetic steroid therapy. The lesion, a fingertip sized verrucous dark browncolored macule on left upper back, had spread into left-anterior chest wall and had involved nipple and areola to make them hyperkerstotic and verrueous. Histologic section from the on left areola showed hyperkeratosis, papillomatosis, acanthosis and increased pigmentation in the basal cell layer. Chernical peeling with 30% trichloroacetic showed favorable response.

PURPOSE: This descriptive correlation study was done to identify the hardiness, coping behavior, and organizational commitment of general hospital employees and show how these variables affect increases in role performance and problem solving ability to have a positive influence on organizational harmony. METHODS: A quantitative, descriptive research design was used with a sample of 368 employees working in general hospitals in M and C cities. A survey was used to collect the data. RESULTS: The score for perception of hardiness of general hospital employees was 2.85, and coping behavior was 2.40, both out of a possible 4 points, and organizational commitment, 3.03 out of a possible 5 points. There were statistically significant positive correlations between hardiness and coping behavior (r=.33, p<.001), also between hardiness and organizational commitment (r=.51, p<.001), and also between coping behavior and organizational commitment (r=.22, p<.001). CONCLUSION: The results of the study indicate that hardiness, coping behavior, and organizational commitment in general hospital employees have positive correlations, and thus hospital administrators should explore ways of increase individual employee hardiness and coping behavior, and make efforts to harmonize their organizations by enhancing organizational commitment.

This study aimed to identify needed improvements to current evaluation methods in medical school computer-based test (CBT) programs and test environments. To that end, an analysis of the importance and satisfaction was conducted through a survey of 3rd and 4th year medical students who had sufficient experience with CBT programs. Importance performance analysis methodology using the correlation coefficient was applied to assess average satisfaction and importance. The first quadrant (keep up the good work) was a factor of review and time management and test facilities among the conveniences of the CBT program.The second quadrant (concentrate here) was a factor of the convenience of the CBT program and computer monitor and chair factor within the test facilities. The third quadrant (low priority) was a factor of cheating and computer failure. The fourth quadrant (possible overkill) was the location, spacing, and temperature factors of the test facilities. Improvements are needed to reduce ‘eye fatigue’ and help students focus and understand the questions in the CBT programs. It is necessary to improve computer monitors, desks and chairs, and consider the subject’s body type and manager in order to cope with computer breakdown and peripheral failures. Spare computers are needed. These findings are meaningful in that they have been able to identify factors that require improvement in the CBT program and test environment resulting from changes in assessment tools.

This study utilized cohort data, student lifestyle surveys, and mental health examination results from a medical school to investigate the impact of factors such as hometown, alcohol use, smoking, university life adaptation, and aptitude on academic failure, with mental health serving as a mediator. We analyzed data from 409 of the 549 incoming students at Keimyung University School of Medicine, excluding 140 individuals with missing data, from the academic years 2015 to 2021. Significant differences were found according to hometown in feelings of depression, suicidal tendencies, and internet addiction. There were also significant differences based on university life adaptation in feelings of depression, suicidal tendencies, and internet addiction, as well as significant differences according to academic aptitude in feelings of depression and internet addiction. Academic failure showed significant differences based on hometown, university life adaptation, and academic aptitude. Furthermore, students’ hometown had a complete mediating effect on academic failure together with feelings of depression, suicidal tendencies, and internet addiction. University life adaptation exhibited a complete mediating effect with suicidal tendencies and a partial mediating effect with feelings of depression and internet addiction. Academic aptitude demonstrated partial mediating effects on feelings of depression, suicidal tendencies, and internet addiction. Based on these results, we suggest establishing counseling programs tailored to the characteristics of medical students, and various programs for university life adaptation are necessary. There is also a need for diverse programs not only for clinical training, but also for different career paths.

Mesenteric lymphangioma was first recognized when an autopsy case was recorded in 1507 by Benevieni. It has been known clinically rare disease and probably a congenital developmental abnormality due to failure of drainage of peripheral primary lymphatic spaces. We experienced a case of abnormal rotation in intestine by mesenteric lymphangioma in a 8 years old male who showed vomiting and abdominal pain. A brief review of related literatures is also presented.

BACKGROUND: Long-standing atopic dermatitis patients frequently predispose to ocular complications. The ectodermal origin of the epidermis and of many eye structures explain the frequent associations observed in atopic dermatitis. OBJECTIVE: This study may help in evolving early diagnosis and in formulating standard therapeutic strategies to prevent and treat ocular complications by studying the types, frequency and dermatological characteristics of each ocular complication in atopic dermatitis. METHODS: We evaluated the ocular complications of 41 typical atopic dermatitis patients(26 males, 15 females) who had skin lesion around eyelids or complained of ocular symptoms. RESULTS: Mean age of the patients was 17.7 years. The onset of atopic dermatitis was during infancy in 21 patients, during childhood in 15 patients, and during adult in 5 patients and their mean duration of disease was 13.8 years. Mild ocular involvements including blepharitis in 29 patients(58 eyes, 70.7%), keratoconjunctivitis in 29 patients(58 eyes, 70.7%) were seen. More serious complications which may lead to decreased visual function including cataracts in 5 patients(10 eyes, 12.1%), retinal detachments in 3 patients(5 eyes, 6.0%) were seen. All the patients who had these two serious complications had facial dermatitis. And other ocular involvements including keratoconus in 2 patients(2 eyes, 2.4%), ocular herpes simplex in 1 patient(2 eyes, 2.4%), uveitis in 2 patients(2 eyes, 2.4%) were seen. CONCLUSION: It is important to perform an ophthalmologic examination in the early period of disease in long-standing atopic dermatitis patients especially those who have facial dermatitis for the early diagnosis and treatment of serious sight-threatening complications.

Pulmonary benign metastasizing leiomyoma (PBML) is defined as metastasis of a leiomyoma to lung tissue. It was first reported in 1937. P BML is known as a benign disease, but can undergo malignant transformation. Only 1 case of the malignant transformation of PBML to leiomyosarcoma has been reported previously. In this report, we present a case of malignant transformation of PBML.

We present a case of Hashimoto's thyroiditis accompanied by chronic daily headache which was relieved by levothyroxine therapy. A 12-year-old girl was referred to our hospital complaining of continuous, bilateral, and non-pulsatile headache which had begun 9 months before. After 2 weeks of appropriate levothyroxine therapy, headache markedly improved. After 4 months of follow-up, she had no new episode of headache.
