This paper describes the cloning and sequence analysis of the cDNAs encoding the canine homologues of interleukin-3 (IL-3) and interleukin-6 (IL-6). The coding sequences for canine IL-3 and IL-6 were obtained by using the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) with RNA harvested from canine peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). Canine IL-3 cDNA includes a single open reading frame of 432 nucleotides, which encodes a 143 amino acid polypeptide and has 44.7, 42.4, 37 and 23.7% homology with the cow, sheep, human and rat IL-3 sequences, respectively. Canine IL-6 cDNA (GenBank accession number; AF275796) encodes a putative 20-amino acid signal peptide followed by a 187-amino acid mature protein. The predicted amino acid sequence of canine IL-6 shares 60.4, 77.2, 71.0, 55.8 and 42.0% sequence identity with those of human, feline, porcine, sheep and rat IL-6, respectively.

Bosworth fracture, fracture-dislocation of ankle with entrapment of fibula behind the tibia, is a rare condition. Diagnosis of this fracture-dislocation may not he easy, and closed reduction of this injury is difficult because of entrapment of fibula by the tieht interosseous membrane. We report a case of Bosworth fracture treated with the anti-glide plate technique.

3.Changes in Total Cerebral Blood Flow with Aging, Parenchymal Volume Changes, and Vascular Abnormalities: a Two-dimensional Phase-Contrast MRI Study.

PURPOSE: To evaluate changes in total cerebral blood flow (tCBF) with aging, parenchymal volume changes and vascular abnormalities, using 2 dimensional (D) phase-contrast magnetic resonance imaging (PC MRI). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Routine brain MRI including T2 weighted image, time-of-flight (TOF) MR Angiography (MRA) and 2D PC MRI were performed in 73 individuals, including 12 volunteers. Normal subjects (12 volunteers, and 21 individuals with normal MRI and normal MRA) were classified into groups according to age (18 -29, 30 -49 and 50 -66 years). For the group with abnormalities in brain MRIs, cerebral parenchymal volume changes were scored according to the T2 weighted images, and atherosclerotic changes were scored according to the MRA findings. Abnormal groups were classified into 4 groups: (i) mild reduction in volume, (ii) marked reduction in volume by parenchymal volume and atherosclerotic changes, and (iii) increased volume and (iv) Moya-moya disease. Volumetric flow was measured at the internal carotid artery (ICA) and vertebral artery bilaterally using the velocity-flow diagrams from PC MRI, and combined 4 vessel flows and tCBF were compared among all the groups. RESULTS: The age-specific distribution of tCBFs in normal subjects were as follows: 12.0 +/- 2.1 ml/sec in 18 -29 years group, 11.8 +/- 1.9 ml/sec in 30 -49 years group, 10.9 +/-2.2 ml/sec in 50 -66 years group. The distribution of tCBFs in the different subsets of the abnormal population were as follows: 9.5 +/-2.5 ml/sec in the group with mild reduction in volume, 7.6 +/-2.0 ml/sec in the group with marked reduction in volume, and 7.3 +/-1.2 ml/sec and 7.0 +/- 1.1 ml/sec in the increased parenchymal volume and Moya-moya disease groups respectively. CONCLUSION: Total cerebral blood flow decreases with increasing age with a concomitant reduction in parenchymal volumes and increasing atherosclerotic changes. It is also reduced in the presence of increased parenchymal volume and Moya-moya disease. 2D PC MRI can be used as a tool to evaluate tCBF with aging and in the presence of various conditions that can affect parenchymal volume and cerebral vasculature.

4.Molecular cloning of the cDNA of canine homeodomain-interacting protein kinase 2.

The research of p53 is being conducted to find the mechanisms of tumorigenesis and to treat various cancers. Homeodomain-interacting protein kinase2 (HIPK2) is an important factor to regulate p53 and to increase the stability of p53. Activation of HIPK2 leads to the selective phosphorylation of p53, resulting in growth arrest and the enhancement of apoptosis. In this study, the canine HIPK2 cDNA fragments were obtained, and their overlapping regions were aligned to give a total sequence of 3489 bp. The canine HIPK2 cDNA (GenBank accession number; AY800385) shares 93% and 90% sequence identity with those of human and mouse HIPK2, respectively. The canine HIPK2 cDNA contains an open reading frame encoding 1163 amino acid residues and the predicted amino acid sequence has 98% and 96% identity with those of human and mouse, respectively. The deduced amino acid sequence of canine HIPK2 has also all domains' sites compared with human and mouse HIPK2. Therefore, these structural similarities suggested that the canine HIPK2 shares the basic biological functions that HIPK2 exhibit in other species.

5.The Usefulness of Panoramic Radiography in Human Identification.

Panoramic radiography, which can show dental characteristics in one film and evaluate postmortem information, may be highly valuable in human identification. The purpose of this study is to evaluate usefulness of human identification with dental characteristics shown in panoramic radiography through panoramic radiographies of 300 randomly selected patients who visited Yonsei University Dental Hospital. Dental characteristics of each film were classified into 8 types and diversity of dental characteristics was evaluated by turning the informations into codes. Diversity of panoramic radiography using both maxillary and mandibular dental characteristics was 99.58%. When mandibular dental characteristic (98.99%) was used alone, the diversity was found to be higher than that of maxillary dental characteristic (97.92%). Maxillary dental characteristics showed diversity in the order of right molars (92.32%), left molars (92.02%), and incisors (41.54%), while that of mandible was in the order of right molars (96.09%), left molars (95.70%), and incisors (18.97%). As a result, human identification using panoramic radiography proved to be useful not only when the whole teeth are present but also when only molars are present. Therefore, it is expected to be applied more economically and practically in identifying a large number of victims from mass disasters as well as wars.

6.Assessment of Normal Mitral Annulus Velocity by Doppler Tissue Imaging.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECT: We want to know reference values of mitral annulus velocity by Doppler tissue imaging which has been thought as a new parameter of left ventricular diastolic function. Including mitral inflow parameters, many parameters which have been used in the evaluation of left ventricular diastolic function are affected by several conditions, so sometimes they can not provide information about left ventricular diastolic function. The knowledge of mitral annulus velocity by Doppler tissue imaging will provide new guidelines for evaluation of diastolic function. However, reference values in normal and changes according to an age have not been fully evaluated. METHODS: We examined 246 patients with no symptoms related to the cardiac systolic and diastolic dysfunction and 80 healthy volunteers according to an age. Early ( E ) and late ( A ) transmitral flow velocity and the ratio of early to late peak velocity ( E/A ) were obtained by pulsed Doppler echocardiography. Early diastolic velocity of mitral annulus ( E' ) and peak atrial systolic velocity of mitral annulus ( A' ) were obtained from the medial ( or septal ) corner of the mitral annulus and subsequently from lateral corner by Doppler tissue imaging. We obtained E', A' and the ratio of E' to A' ( E'/A' ) and E/ E' according to an age. RESULTS: E' from medial corner was the highest in subjects in their twenties and declined gradually and A' from medial corner was the lowest in a same age group and increased gradually. E'/A' ratio from medial corner was the highest in subjects in their twenties and declined gradually and reversed in subjects in their forties. E', A' and E'/A' from lateral corner were showed like as medial corner similarly but E'/A' was reversed in the subjects in their fifties. E/ E' from medial and lateral corner was the lowest in subjects in their twenties and increased gradually with age. In comparison between transmitral flow velocity and mitral annulus velocity, there are good relationship in E/A and E'/A' ( p=0.01 ). CONCLUSION: We measured reference values of mitral annulus velocity by Doppler tissue imaging and E/ E' according to an age.

7.A Study on the Clinicopathological Characteristics Associated with Cervical Lymph Mode Metastasis and Extra-nodal Extension in Patients with Oral Cancer

Background/Objectives:
Extra-nodal extension (ENE) is one of the strongest prognosticators in oral cancers. Here we tried to evaluate clinicopathological factors associated with the presence of ENE.Materials & Methods: We retrospectively analyzed clinical information of 120 patients who diagnosed with oral cancer and received curative surgery at our hospital from Mar 2012 to Apr 2020. We comparatively analyzed clinicopathological factors associated with the presence of lymph node (LN) metastasis and ENE, respectively.
Results:
Variable factors of primary tumor characteristics such as lymphovascular invasion, perineural invasion, largest diameter of tumor, depth of invasion and maximum standardized uptake value were significantly associated with the presence of cervical LN metastasis. The largest diameter of tumor was statistically significant also in multivariate analysis for predicting the LN metastasis. Meanwhile, the association between primary tumor characteristics and the presence of ENE were not statistically significant except the primary tumor size. Importantly, factors associated with LN characteristics including the maximum diameter and number of metastatic LNs were significantly associated with ENE.
Conclusion
In this study, several factors affecting cervical LN metastasis and ENE in oral cancer patients were identified. The ENE seems to be influenced by the status of the metastatic LNs, such as the number of metastatic LNs, rather than the characteristics of the primary tumor itself.
8.Anterior Tibial Artery Angioplasty and Stenting by Retrograde Pedal Artery Approach in Diabetic Patient with Critical Limb Ischemia: A Case Report.

Endovascular therapy of critical limb ischemia is indicated in high risk patients, especially the diabetics. The ipsilateral antegrade femoral approach is the most common access site. When this approach fails, the retrograde pedal artery percutaneous approach can be considered. A 51-year-old diabetic male patient was presented with severe rest pain and gangrene on his right 4th toe. Computed tomography angiography showed multilevel calcific arterial occlusive disease, involving the popliteal and proximal anterior tibial arteries. Below knee angioplasty and stenting of the right leg was done through ipsilateral antegrade femoral approach and retrograde pedal artery approach. The C-arm guided retrograde pedal approach for calcific artery was useful for recanalization of the occluded anterior tibial artery when antegrade approach failed.

9.Multi-Institute, Single Group, Prospective Observational Study to Evaluate the Efficacy of Mucomyst® in Relieving Symptoms of Globus Pharyngeus Refractory to Proton Pump Inhibitor

Background and Objectives:
Globus pharyngeus is one of the most common symptoms of patients visiting otorhinolaryngology out-patient clinic, and usually long-lasting, difficult to treat, and frequently recurrent. Mucomyst®, N-acetyl cysteine is an inhalation agent mainly used for mucolysis and reducing inflammation in airway via antioxidative effect. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of inhaled Mucomyst® treatment in patients with globus pharyngeus refractory to proton pump inhibitor (PPI).Materials and Method We prospectively evaluated the efficacy of Mucomyst® in relieving symptoms of globus pharyngeus refractory to PPI in nine medical centers. Three hundred and three patients enrolled and finally 229 patients finished the inhaled Mucomyst® therapy for 8 weeks. We analyzed the change of Reflux Symptom Index (RSI), Reflux Finding Score (RFS), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) for globus, and Globus Pharyngeus Symptom Scale (GPS) after use of Mucomyst® for 4 and 8 weeks.
Results:
The GPS, RSI, RFS, and VAS score significantly decreased serially in patients who finished 8 week-inhalation treatment. The GPS improvement gap was significantly correlated with initial GPS (p<0.001) in multiple regression analysis.
Conclusion
Inhaled Mucomyst® therapy was effective for the reduction of both subjective and objective findings in refractory globus patients. This study might suggest new treatment option for patients with globus. However, further thorough studies would be needed to assess the real effect of inhaled Mucomyst® treatment as a standard treatment for globus.
10.A Case of Streptococcus salivarius Meningitis in a Patient with Cerebrospinal Fluid Rhinorrhea after Skull Base Fracture.

Streptococcus salivarius meningitis is very uncommon, and most cases are iatrogenic, occurring after invasive procedures such as spinal anesthesia or lumbar puncture etc.. Post-traumatic occurrence of this infection is especially rare. A 20-year-old man with a previous history of skull base fracture was seen at the emergency department with signs of acute bacterial meningitis. The CSF had a few gram positive cocci with neutrophilic pleocytosis, which were identified as S. salivarius by the Vitek system (bioMerioux, Inc., Hazelwood, MO, USA), rapid ID 32 Strep (bioMerieux, Marcy-l'Etoile, France) and 16S rRNA sequencing. The microorganism showed intermediate resistance to penicillin (MIC=0.25 microg/mL) but was susceptible to cefotaxime (MIC=0.25 microg/mL) and vancomycin (MIC= 0.75 microg/mL). The patient was treated with ceftriaxone and vancomycin. He also had his CSF leakage repaired by an endoscopic approach. To our knowledge, this is the first case of S. salivarius meningitis reported in Korea.
